Freeper, Wright is right made this post on another thread and I think it sums up perfectly why Dubya signed the CFR bill today:

This is why Dubya signed CFR and will allow it to be struck down by the courts, rather than vetoing it. The Dems and the Media have not had ANYTHING stick to this President - and had he vetoed CFR, they were all geared up for an all-out assault on him the likes of which you've never seen. Non-stop, wall-to-wall. CFR would have been the latest thing for them to try to get traction by ceaselessly flogging the issue. By signing, without ceremony nor flourish, a certainly-doomed bill, the media gets their next big cataclysm defused, McCain doesn't get his Rose Garden, the courts toss it, AND the DEMS have LOST THE ISSUE. The Dems were really only for CFR if it would actually hurt the GOP - otherwise, they only wanted it as a demagogic issue. When the courts toss CFR, the Dems will have lost both the issue AND the battle. Bush has wisely not squandered not one penny in political capital, because, when the Dems and the Media get their sorry hats handed to them by the courts, it won't have been Dubya that did it.

Pretty damn smart, if ya ask me. And, basic West Texas street fighting. Always get someone else to take the fall for you, keep your clothes clean. This issue is now off the radar screen until the court battle, and then it won't be anything the media can tar him with.

And I'll add this.....GWB wants to get a majority in the Senate so he can get his Judicial nominees confirmed...he's focused on the 'long term' victory....and that's just fine with me.

Your anger at Rush is shared by a lot of us, Miss Marple. He, IMO, has been disrespectful of the President, not just disagreeing. And there's a huge difference.

He seemed to have toned down quite a bit today, though. Maybe he finally realized that Bush had a reason for doing what he was doing about CFR..........although he still said that the President had "abandoned" his core principles, and I think he's totally wrong about that, and someone who claims to know the man, would and should not say it.

I have to agree with that analysis. Furthermore, I'd be very surprised if Senator McConnell isn't completely privy to the strategery and offered to expend a bit of his own political capital in the best interests of the party by being the front runner for the opposition.

Dumb like a fox that GWB.

What a perfectly logical explanation of Bush's rationale for signing CFR. Thank you for sharing Wright is right's post with us. I am bookmarking this thread so that I can refer to it!

Thanks, Julie!

And as I have said, one thing I always liked about Rush is the fact that he consistently spouted off Reagan's line of "not speaking ill of a fellow Republican." Rush realized that the behind-the-scenes bickering while Clinton was in office was costing the Republican party as a whole. I am a FIRM believer in Reagan's "11th Commandment." Well Rush has thrown that out the window the last few weeks. It will take a lot for him to recover (with me) from this one.

I agree with you - he has really turned me off and I have turned him off, literally. Now, maybe he can get those liberal callers he always wants.

Do you have any fresh chocolate chippers?

Sweetie, you're not supposed to give children sweets before dinner, remember? It makes them all hyper and stuff.

Rin, GREAT thread you've got here! Thank you SO MUCH for posting these pictures of our WONDERFUL President and his wife. Thanks to all of you for your pics, too!!!!
