I sent an e-mail that asked several basic questions. The first question was what about the 4,000 blacks who, in 1830 owned some 12,600 other blacks?

Another question addressed the whites who faught and died for the union.

And what about the millions of southerners who never owned slaves?

It is unfair to use today's standards to a culture that existed over 150 years ago. To do so would also open the door for whites to sue for damages caused by the 'slave' wages paid by factory owners in the north. The owners of these factories became filthy rich by paying their workers less than a living wage.

Well, anyway, I sent them my opinionsssss.

Anybody who isn't familiar with David Horowitz's debate on the slavery reparations issue should visit frontpagemag.com. I have a copy of his book called Uncivil Wars. I highly recommend the book. It is a great way to refute the left when they talk about reparations. This is a farse, but the left is willing and ready to drag this country through the mud on the way to trying to get something for nothing. We have to fight this crap. Get the book, educate yourself and fight this one.

My Irish great grandfather was essentially slave laborer in a coal mine. I think all Irish, Italian, German, Jewish, Norwegian, Swedish, Polish, etc. immigrants to the US that were working to pay off the "company store" (i.e for nothing except food and housing)are also entitled to reparation. /sarcasm.

You folks whining because your 3rd generation ancestors were mis-treated: get over it, grow up, and learn to make it on your own.

I don't think you caught the drift of my post. Many nationalities were made "slave labor" by practices such as getting them in debt via the "company store", so that they could not leave when they wanted to. They were, then, slaves with no hope of escape. The law was on the "company" side. Should all Asians and Europeans with ancestors who came over in the 1700's, 1800's, and early 1900's expect reparations due to the unfair practices experienced by their ancestors? I don't think so.

Again, I am of the opinion that we should get on with life and get over what happened 40, 80, 120, and 250 years ago. If your or my Daddy didn't overcome the problems and hatred experienced between blacks and whites, Jews and Italians, Irish and Dutch, Vietnamese and Blacks, then the fault has to lie with the individual for the most part, since the aspect of one "group" keeping another "group" out of success has been defeated. If you can't make a living wage in America today, it's because you aren't trying.

The Vietnamese, the Italians, the Greeks, The Irish, etc. have all pulled themselves out of the ghetto, out of the lower strata of society as groups. Why would anybody claim that a particular group needs/should have reparations, when no other group/nationality expects the same for essentially the same situation?

I think the millions of descendants of slave owners are entitled to reparations. Slave owners received no compensation for their lost property.

I'm white, my daddy was a sharecropper, they moved around a lot, picked cotton for a living when they could and even sold firewood. My father didn't see an indoor toilet until WW-2 was about overwith. He had barely gotten over seeing a lightbulb inside a house.

Coal oil lamps and hand-me downs were his lot. I'm still poor but I have never blamed anyone but me, myself and I.

Well lets see if the citizens of St Louis give back the city to the mormons they openly put a bounty on and drove out of their homes way back when .........then I say we will have to give serious consideration to the 40 acres and a zebra issue........
