But this can't be a hate crime, because the victims were White. And the perps were Hispanic, clearly suffering from past oppression by evil Whites.

Actually, the Whites will probably be lucky if they aren't arrested for assaulting the Hispanic's fists with their faces.

I regret to say that the above is all too close to the truth - so even though I would like to say that I am being sarcastic, I hesitate to do so.

Reminds me of a case in Fort Worth several years ago. The first day the Texas hate crimes law took effect, a friend of mine was in a movie theater where several punks ran through and shouted racial epithets. They cornered my friend in the hallway, beating and kicking him into a 2-week coma. The prosecutor originally planned to file hate crimes charges against these punks, but declined after vociferous protests from the NAACP that this isn't what the law was designed for. You see the victim in the coma was white, the punk gang black. The double-standard is one reason why racism doesn't die out.

The murder of a white man last year by a black man at the "Fat Tuesday" celebration was on video and witnessed by Seattle police. Just you regular charge of manslaughter.
