[history]
Twenty years ago today, 100 Vietnam veterans, two from each state, stood on the Mall in Washington. In unison, each turned the earth with a shovel, breaking ground for a national memorial dedicated to all who served with the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War.

Thanks John. I think I'll ping Billie and Snow Bunny. I'm sure they will want to include this in the USO Canteen thread for tomorrow.

About time. No one who knows anyone who died there can leave the memorial without weeping.

After being in the military during Viet Nam, I knew many of the men and women killed in Nam. A little over a year ago I visited the memorial for the first time. It was definately emotional. I cry every time that damn wall appears on t.v. I was almost alright until I came upon the nurses statue with the soldier in the nurses arms dieing. GOD bless those on that horrible wall, may we never need another. Thanks John.

Vietnam Vet bump.
You guys served your country, as the generations before you.
But come home to ungratefullness and ignorance. No parades, No praise.
Not only fighting a fierce and determined enemy, but ignorant world opinion.
The memorial couldn't even begin to touch the debt we and the Nation owe you. But it's a start.
From a guy who was fortunate enough to serve in peacetime, thank you.
