Not everybody is thrilled that Lauren Signer is the new acting chief of the Ithaca Police Department. Ithaca Police Benevolent Association President Sgt. Doug Wright questioned Signer's lack of experience with the IPD -- three years -- calling her a "frustrating unknown."

....promoting and recruiting women within this most important profession isn't just the right thing to do, but it's good business for everyone.Excuse me, but when did the main concern of law enforcement become "good business," rather than "to protect and serve?"
Ithaca is the City of Evil.

This merde will continue until there's a crime wave impacting locals, or a high-profile crime that cuts into Cornell applications.

"It is not easy being a female cop in a field where men have traditionally dominated.
Women police officers utilize a style of policing that relies less on physical force and more on communications skills."Maybe it's just not easy being a "talker" in a field that requires "doers."

This merde will continue until there's a crime wave impacting locals, or a high-profile crime that cuts into Cornell applications.According to my wife (who works there), Cornell is undergoing a wave of burglaries and even a mugging or two.
The local press hasn't picked up on it, however (or chooses not to, so as to keep Ithaca's "image" intact).

Time for a letter to the Sun and/or the Cornell Review.
The Times reported a drop in applications to NYC schools after 9/11.
If high school families start to hear that rural, isolated, frigid Cornell is not safe, applications will drop like my grades in Chem 207!

Though luckily free from rampant violence, Ithaca and Cornell have enjoyed fairly high property crime rates for years.

applications will drop like my grades in Chem 207At least you didn't say that applications will drop like students with bad grades in Chem 207.

(I still have the slug of left-over thermite reaction product I bought at Wolczanski's last day of class auction of the stuff he made in class. For me, anyway, that class should have been captioned, You are not as smart as you thought you were.)

It is not easy being a female cop in a field where men have traditionally dominated. Conversely, the need to diversify has never been greater. Signer said she hoped that during her new position would encourage women, as well as people of color, to think seriously about joining law enforcement. That development would be to any community's benefit.
=============
Oh, I see. "women, as well as people of color" have been desirous but oh,so hesitant to join the police force simply b/c a male (and doubtlessly a white male) was in charge.
Right. (sarcasm)

Group identity and not idividual qualifications or achievement are what matter to the left.
I present the Academy Awards as resent evidence.
To: NativeNewYorker
she's white. didn't they have any women of color?
To: Rustynailww
I'm sure it's not for lack of trying!
To: Behind Liberal Lines
Well, of course, it has to be PC. It matters not that a veteran cop was passed over, as long as the agenda is honored. Oh gee, this stuff makes me sick to the core. I guess we can thank the out going chief for his continuing gift to the community. Didn't hurt matters any that he probably gave a great big "City of Evil" bump!!!!!

And, it is a crime for a citizen to even question an order from a police officer and not act immediately.
It's called "Obstructing a peace officer in the performance of his/her duties."
You'll go to jail.
Now then, would you be inclined to obey an "order" from this "woman"?
