I'd have still preferred a veto, but watching this farce go down in flames -- along with charlatan McCain -- in the courtroom is the next best thing =^)

Nice two cents....what a value pack.

Have to say though, I believe the grown-ups in the WH figured this angle of the CFR a long time ago. Bet they figured it out that this slimeball piece of legislation would come back to bit the democrats where it hurts most-their dirty, bottomless pockets.

Perhaps the dems banked on our President breaking his promise to sign CR if it hit his desk (alas--he is keeping his promise! hehe) and are now paying a price far beyond the win of this shallow, ill devised, unconstitutional piece of crap.

My greatest hope is that the FEC is reformed, that REPUBLICANS are put in heavy duty jobs there, ASAP, because the democrats are up a creek with no paddles if they are unable to cheat like they did during the clinton reign of corruption.

Exactly, this could be the best thing. The Supreme Court hopefully will put a stake through the heart of this issue and kill it once and for all.

As you know JH2, by our exchanges over the years, that we are "birds of a feather" ... basically. While I enjoyed, once again, as usual, your 2 cents I am left wondering what, if any "long term" price those of us who believe in "conserving" (protecting and defending) the Constitution, may pay with our willingness to give a "wink and a nod" to the acquisition and maintenance of political capital at the expense of a violation of The Oath of Office?

Does that acquisition of "political capital" trump, principled leadership with fidelity to conservative principles as basic as "free speech"? Can we really have it both ways and not be harmed, somehow, in the long run?

I have struggled mightily with this. I have often railed against those "single issue" voters, exclaiming vitriol against parties and individuals, who represent a core "conservative" ideology just because they may wander from each and everyone of those values at times. And yet, I wonder, is there a line, over which "we" should not cross?

I know the sun will more than likely rise in the morning and God willing life will go on, but yet ...

Knowing and accepting the political capital to be gained by GW's signature of the Bill and letting the courts strike down those Unconstitutional parts of the Bill, leaves this old timer puzzled and quite frankly deeply concerned.

Afterall, we just finished 8 years reeling from the actions by one who used his Oath and the Constitution as the Law of the Land as toilet paper. Is it therefore ok, to look the other way as "our guy" appears to do the same, in this instance, especially?

I know my concerns, in reality, aren't worth even two cents, but they are my concerns and continue to cause me great consternation.

Thanks, as always, for your cogent remarks.
