USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

Great link to the Atlantic Lighthouses! Here is one in the Gulf of Mexico.

Click on the picture.
Middle Bay Light
In 1885 the U.S. Lighthouse Service built a lighthouse at the main bend in the channel, midway in Mobile Bay. The lighthouse was designed and built hexagonal in shape, with seven steel pilings screwed into the bottom of the bay and braced with steel rods. Evidently it was a perfect design because it still stands after more than 100 years, and a number of hurricanes. Middle Bay Light is known and loved by many sailors and stands as a tribute to man's ability.

Coast Guard Medevac's Navy Crewmember from USS Gettysburg
7 March 2002
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah, Ga., conducted a medical evacuation of a Navy crewmember early this morning from the USS Gettysburg CG 64, a Navy guided missile cruiser home ported in Mayport, FL.

The Coast Guard Air Station in Savannah responded after receiving information from Coast Guard 7th District headquarters that a Navy crewmember was in need of hospital care. The air station was asked to expedite their launch due to the nature of the medical emergency. An HH-65A Dolphin launched, and the helicopter crew started their transit to rendezvous with the USS Gettysburg, 40 miles off the Mayport coast. The helicopter landed safely on the back of the Gettysburg near 5 AM. The Navy crewmember was transferred to the helicopter on a rescue litter, in stable condition. The helicopter immediately flew to Naval Air Station Jacksonville where the patient was transferred to an awaiting ambulance.

Teamwork between the Navy and Coast Guard has always been extensive during law enforcement missions and training operations. The Coast Guard is committed to responding to emergencies on the water, serving the public and other military services.

Coast Guard GI Joe - By Mattel

A note to our non Coast Guard friends, Mattel really does make a Coast Guard version of the GI Joe doll.

Due to popular demand, Mattel is issuing the following alternate Coast Guard GI Joes:

The Airdale version: Comes with tube of styling gel, a tube of Ultrabright and Ray Ban sunglasses.

The "TAD" Airedale version: comes with 3 pregnant Malibu Barbies.

The AIRDET cutter deployed version: comes with seasick bag and sun tan oil. A Chief Petty Officer Coast Guard version is being issued. Unfortunately, the box is empty and nobody can find the figure anywhere.

The "Retired Coastie" version has a pull string. Pull it and it talks...on and on and on and on and on and on....

The "Boatswains" version is complete with six attached knives (sheathes decorated with 8 feet of braided fancywork) and well-stained coffee mug.

The "Engineer" version is complete with brass halyard clip and 362 keys. Makes excellent collector set when purchased with the Retired version, as the Engineer version can't hear a damn thing.

The Ensign version: has spring-loaded bobbing head (constant "yes" motion). Doesn't come out of box, to avoid soiling uniform.

TC (Telecommunications) version: Nobody has seen it yet, as they don't have clearance to access the security box.

HQ (Headquarters) version: Production cancelled due to lack of interest. However, the Commendation Medal accessories are being given away for free.

"M" (Marine Safety) version: accessories include 127 manuals and CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) reference books. Only good for daylight play, as it goes home every night.

Gunner version: Failed in product testing. Seems the action figure refused to let any of the kids play with it's accessories.

We Need You -- In the wake of the recent attacks on the United States, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be called upon to provide essential services to the Coast Guard as they focus more heavily on their military missions.  We will need all the help we can get.  You needn't own a boat or even be an experienced boater, since our missions are wide-ranging.  For information about existing Auxiliary missions and the Auxiliary in general, go to our Join the Auxiliary webpage.  You will find there a form through which you can ask that a local Auxiliarist make contact with you to explore the ways in which you can assist Team Coast Guard
and, in the process, do something for our country in its hour of need.

Hi Sam, this is so beautiful. Thank you so much. I agree completely with it too.

I have always felt the Coast Guard was a big part of our military. They do so much and a lot of people do not even know all the many things they do here at the homeland and in other countries.

Great post my friend.

Those Who Have Touched Our Lives

Every special person who touches our life,
Leaves their own unique mark on our heart.
A mark which can never be chiseled away,
Even if the years eventually pull us apart.

We can take on their expressions and such,
The more we share of ourselves together.
It's those little things about another person,
Which can remain a part in us forever.

People who we have met throughout our life,
Become a part of the person who we are today.
We learn and we grow from the relationships;
Each one touching us, in it's own special way.

We laugh about spending too much time together,
When we think we have become like each other.
But it just shows how much we've been touched,
By the relationship we have found with another.

Those special people who can touch our lives,
Are like precious jewels amongst life's treasures.
They shine on us and leave a lasting impression;
An unique mark on our heart;
A gift without measures.
