USO Canteen FReeper Style....Saturday....March 23,2002

USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

A late freeze (14 yesterday and 20 today) also here in Kentucky. Afraid we will not have a peach crop again this year. We had great peaches three years ago and since then, not a thing. Oh well, at least we will have apples, pears and it looks like the cherry tree out back is doing fine.

Greetings, 4!!
I remember in 1962 in Rapid City having snowfall for April Fool's Day!
Then we went to Fairbanks and had it until the end of May each year - March was 20 BELOW zero frequently.
As a Florida gal originally, I prefer to remain thawed out..:)))
South Carolina is an excellent compromise, with changing seasons.

Good morning! It was 19 degrees in the North Ga. Blue Ridge Mtns. when I got up this morning. It should warm up pretty quick though.
Here is a field of spring flowers for everyone.

Good Morning.

This is the fourth day in a row that this is the first place I have come (after wake-up and coffee)...am I addicted?

The USCG...what a great service! And the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT is a beautiful place.

Thanks for reminding us all...especially on this beautiful Saturday morning as I ponder the Gulf and using the wooden sea kayak or the boat. Either case knowing that if I get myself into a jam dedicated professionals will be there to save my amateur butt (where my brains are sometime).

I don't know where Warwoman creek is, but I can guaranty you it is cold there this morning.
I believe trout season opens next Saturday, are you planning on going fishing there? Be careful if you go, that sounds like Deliverance country to me. :-D

Oh, Bunny dear, you've outdone yourself this morning!
Tonkin (what a handsome li'l devil!) must be grinning from ear to ear today.

Our Coast Guard is a wonderful institution, and one that so few average Americans know anything about. Did you know we have USCG installations world wide? Back in..hmmm...'85 or '86, I'm not sure which, Moammar Khaddafi of Libya attacked a US base in the Med with a SCUD-type ballistic missile. His missile missed, of course, but y'know what surprised me? It was a US Coast Guard installation!!

My wife's cousin is now a Commander with the Coast Guard. He started flying those awesome helicopters in your picture as a rescue pilot. Now he flies fixed wing HU-25 Falcons. His missions include searching for those lost at sea, as well as drug interdiction flights. Aren't these guys just the best?

The sad state of our military. I sat, as did millions of other Americans, and watched as our government underwent a peaceful transition of power.
At first I felt a swell of pride and patriotism as I watched George W. Bush take his oath of office.
However, all that pride vanished as I watched William Jefferson Clinton board Air Force One for the final time.
I saw 21 U.S. Marines in full dress, with rifles, fire a 21-gun salute to the outgoing president.
It was then that I realized how far America's military had deteriorated.

Every last one of them missed.

Good to be aboard. Which way to my quarters or berthing?

Great place because it is alive and it changes daily with a deep breathe of fresh air.

Hot Black Coffee and Cranberry muffins...you are the best Granny any guy could ask for!
How are you this crisp spring morning? Do you get to rest this weekend, or are you back out on the trail?
I certainly hope it's the former!

Oh, yeah, by the way...don't bother with the dishes after breakfast, I'll roust up some of the guys and we'll take care of that for you...okay?

We have lots of rooms available upstairs, just stay out of the broom closet! Downstairs you'll find several quiet rooms with fireplaces from Tonkin, we have a chapel for meditation, a huge dining room that DaisyScarlett and Iowa Granny try to keep humming, there's always fresh hot coffee in the kitchen, and sometimes whoever hides cookies and stuff in the pantry! And if you like music, just wander around looking for the landscape paintings. Aquamarine likes to put music boxes with wonderful tunes near them.

Watch out for Beamer and Morgan, he'll bowl you over, the big lug, and Morgan is our cyber-kitty. She's liable to turn up just about anywhere!
