Ted Maher -- former Special Forces; Neonatal Intensive Care nurse
American Green Beret veteran and accomplished neonatal nurse Ted Maher has now been held 537 days without trial in Monaco's prison on trumped-up and false charges -- charges of causing the deaths of billionaire banker Edmond Safra and Ted's fellow nurse, Vivian Torrente on December 3, 1999. In truth, Ted fought valiantly against two armed, masked intruders to defend Edmond and Vivian and save their lives. During the struggle, Ted suffered severe knife wounds that required one hundred staples to close.
Billionaire banker Edmond Safra was cooperating with the FBI, who was investigating the IMF/Russian loans. Needing a convenient scapegoat for the murder of Safra, Monaco police subjected Ted to three days of grueling torture designed to extort a false confession from him. (see description in "BASIC TIMELINE" in Thread 1 - http://206.112.97.70/forum/a3ad8b097272d.htm ).
Monaco continues to hold Ted incommunicado, preventing him from sending or receiving mail. In fact, they restrict his communication with his family to one telephone call a week. This call is only allowed to last a few minutes and is always monitored closely to prevent any discussion of the case. Ted is forced by his jailers to take a psychotropic medication and is regularly "interrogated" by the Monaco judge -- Patricia Richet. Reports have been received that Judge Richet is a violent person who has displayed unstable behavior in the past. She allegedly has a history of assaulting a fellow judge, putting him in the hospital for a week. She also tears up letters from Ted's children in front of Ted rather than let him read them.
Hundreds of family, friends, work associates, parents of patients, and Army veterans who served with Ted have vouched for him as being a loyal husband, loving father, and an exemplary professional of great skill and compassion. Ted has also been defended by then-chairman of the House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Ted's congresswoman Sue Kelly, who have written Prince Rainier III of Monaco on Ted's behalf. Monaco has no evidence of any crime by Ted; they have no witnesses and no credible case against him. Even worse, Monaco has planted false evidence and suppressed vast amounts of exculpatory evidence -- even passing a special Monaco law that enables them to hold Ted four years without trial.
The Geneva prosecutor has said that Safra was killed for his cooperation with the FBI regarding the laundering through Safra's Republic National Bank of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.
Regardless of the reason "why," it is obvious that Ted Maher is a scapegoat for a murder by others. We are working to obtain his release and to correct the grave injustice being done to an American Green beret veteran and medical professional.
Ted Maher -- a giver of life, not a taker -- needs our help.

The autopsy of Vivian Torrente notes smoke on the right of her face.
It notes smoke on the left of her thorax.
Conclusion: she was lying twisted like a pretzel.
With magic blood: Edmond Safra's blood spatter was noted in the autopsy as being on her bra, panties and barette/nurse's cap--
Yet she was clad, per the report, in slacks and blouse and sweater--not noted as being spattered.
She bore signs of trauma to the throat:
Moderately pronounced blood infiltration at the level of the left platysma, in a 2 x 2 cm area, and of the left sternocleidomastoideus, approximately 4 cm.
In addition, there is very pronounced blood infiltration of almost the entire thyroid area. The thyroid was dissected and removed. Sectioning shows a hematoma encompassing the thyroid lobes, as well as the isthmus and Lallouette’s pyramid.
And "abdominal trauma". Converting the metric to standard, she was five-two-and-a-half, and bore blunt force trauma forty and a half inches up from her heel--
At the solar plexus:
Recent abdominal hematoma, 2 cm in diameter, situated 7 cm to the right of the median line and 103 cm from the heel. Incisions at this point indicate a recent effusion of blood.
She took a blow to the solar plexus concentrated into a square inch:
Blunt trauma to the abdomen or the thorax can cause a significant differential pressure across the diaphragm, which is the muscle that separates the abdominal cavity from the thoracic cavity. The differential pressure stretches and strains the diaphragm, and can cause the diaphragm muscle to involuntarily spasm and contract painfully. The painful muscle cramp, which is essentially a "charley horse" of the diaphragm, is what prevents a person from catching his breath in the moments immediately after the blow is received.
So we are to believe that a "very corpulent" man at 67, in the advanced stages of Parkinsons', unable to control his bowels and bladder, relying upon a stronger nursing staff member to wheel him about, was able to pull a Jackie Chan combat maneuver on the fit and healthy Vivian Torrente.
A blow to the solar plexus, a powerful choke hold, bringing Vivian to her knees--
On the anterior surface of both knees, in the midpatellar area, small subcutaneous ecchymoses measuring 1 cm were found.
She lost consciousness and hence was smokey on top, clean underneath.
But at what point did Edmond's crafty blood spatter crawl under her sweater, blouse and slacks to get on her bra and panties?
We have only Sonia's word that Vivian was alive to speak on the phone to her at 6:30. We have no corroborative witness, nor phone record.
Edmond Safra, Kung Fu Fighting Man?
And how came he to have unidentified male DNA beneath his nails, DNA not belonging to Ted Maher?
More of the magical powers of Ted Maher such as those used to cause the "sudden conflagration" an hour after he'd been rushed semiconscious to the hospital for emergency surgery.
Two suspicious deaths; one scapegoat stretched dangerously thin to explain too much.
While reading about all this "magical" stuff, Phil, I cannot help but think of Taken, by Steven Spielberg, now airing on the SciFi Channel. Blaming Ted Maher for the deaths of Safra and Vivian is as rational as if aliens are involved in first abducting Vivian, performing experiments on her, while her clothes are still on, of course, and blood seeps through her skin to blot the outer part of her inner clothing (i.e. bra and panties).
With Safra, I'm still trying to figure out just what those aliens may have done to him, except zap him with strength and ability to perform tremendous feats of power.
But, what do I know, I'm not the Monaco po-lice.
Three years ago the widow stripped Edmond Safra's security.
His burglar alarm--gone.
His security team--gone.
His Monaco police response--gone.
His 3mm manganese plate doors--not locked.
So, what worked of the extensive renovations completed July 1, 1999?
The separate air handling system saved the widow.
The separate electrically-controlled steel roller blinds allowed Lily to escape; kept Edmond a prisoner, and firemen at bay.
The category three four-layer inch-and-five-sixteenths bulletproof glass kept firemen from entering.
[Three times in the fire report it is stated that the firemen were unable to break the bulletproof glass--yet on DatelineNBC "Who Killed the Billionaire?" November 21, 2000, is video showing a hole in the glass described in the fire report as 20cm/8in in diameter. A hole to ventilate a fire made by no one.]
Police destroyed the clothes Ted was wearing; clothes which would have shown the cuts, and the blood.
The clothing they offered into evidence bore no cuts nor bloodstains, was brand-new, and was sportswear not allowed by the dress code for nursing staff on duty.
The sudden conflagration at 6 a.m. is mentioned three times in the fire report.
Ted had been taken to the hospital an hour before that.
European accounts still discuss initial reports of shots fired, police radio accounts of shots; the maitre d's account of shots.
Police seized--then released--two men of Middle Eastern descent in the underground parking garage beneath La Belle Epoque.
For Edmond, perhaps not such a belle epoque; for Lily, tres belle.
Certainly our CIA is investigating the secret of Ted Maher's psychokinetic powers to cause a sudden conflagration a kilometer away while anesthetized--
The solution to our need to reach Saddam Hussein in his subterranean bunker is at hand in a prison on the cote d'azur--
Or perhaps just another police state committing just another outrage in service to the rich, the powerful, and the thoroughly amoral.

A glimpse of the timeline tells much:
The House and Senate Banking Committees convene to investigate money laundering.
Republic Bank is called upon to explain SAR's, Suspicious Activity Reports.
Edmond Safra cooperates with the FBI regarding the laundering of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia through his Republic Bank.
Republic Securities is involved in a $600 million scandal in the Japanese markets.
Safra makes an according price adjustment to satisfy buyer HSBC, Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation.
Banco del Gottardo (with a branch five floors beneath Safra's penthouse in La Belle Epoque at 17 Avenue d'Ostende in Monte Carlo, Monaco) is handling Mebatex kickbacks to Pavel Borodin.
Lily has handled the extensive renovations to produce the death chamber, change the couple's citizenship to Monagasque, disconnect the burglar alarm, send the security team to the palatial estate La Leopolda an hour away.
Lily's paid agent Sonia pencils in Vivian Torrente and Ted Maher at the last minute, the newest hires, the only two who don't speak French.
Enter the two intruders from the adjacent Hotel Hermitage avoiding the street cams.
Ted is cut, warns Vivian and Edmond, police are called but do not come; the fire alarm is activated at 4:54 a.m.
Two Monaco Securite reps see nothing; Ted is rushed to the hospital.
An hour later a sudden conflagration is witnessed--but Edmond and Vivian will be another hour and three quarters unaided.
After three days in four-point restraint, catheterized, sleep-deprived, threatened with the indefinite detention of his kidnapped wife and implied harm to their children, Ted is forced to sign the police-prepared false confession typed in French--which Ted does not read, write or speak.
For three years, Ted gets ONE phone call a week, fifteen minutes to his family--but the line is disconnected if he discusses the night in question.
His mail is blocked; he is not allowed a laptop, though all the other prisoners are; he has no private visitors, and two sympathetic priests are removed.
His Monaco-paid pretend defenders tell him he has caused the death of two persons with his setting off the smoke detector.
His original clothing is destroyed and a drug slander is uttered by prosecutor Daniel Serdet.
The fabricated coverup is hyped without contradiction in the world press for three years.
A show trial displays a dark-eyed, confused defendant admitting to a fire in a wastebasket.
To be sure, the dark eyes and confusion were caused by Monaco awakening Ted every 20 to 40 minutes--but this is not as widely reported as his confession.
Having served three years, he has two to seven remaining.
Prosecutor Serdet--who lied about Ted using drugs--is now concerned that Ted may commit suicide--Conclusion: Monaco may arrange for Ted to commit suicide--
So the sole surviving witness never sees the light of day.
Lily makes three billion, cremates Edmond, pays off Vivian's husband with two million, uses two interesting lawyers:
Stanley Arkin who defended Republic against American Express accusations of Iran-Contra laundering described in Vendetta;
Arkin who defended Natasha Kagalovsky in the Bank of New York (BONY) laundering scandal, Natasha'as husband Konstantin head of Russia's Menatep Bank;
Brendan Sullivan who defended Oliver North in the Iran-Contra matter.
Now Lily travels in armored limousines with a contingent of armed bodyguards--security she denied Edmond.
Ted Maher, the scapegoat of the rich and famous.
