Ted Maher -- former Special Forces; Neonatal Intensive Care nurse
American Green Beret veteran and accomplished neonatal nurse Ted Maher has now been held 537 days without trial in Monaco's prison on trumped-up and false charges -- charges of causing the deaths of billionaire banker Edmond Safra and Ted's fellow nurse, Vivian Torrente on December 3, 1999. In truth, Ted fought valiantly against two armed, masked intruders to defend Edmond and Vivian and save their lives. During the struggle, Ted suffered severe knife wounds that required one hundred staples to close.
Billionaire banker Edmond Safra was cooperating with the FBI, who was investigating the IMF/Russian loans. Needing a convenient scapegoat for the murder of Safra, Monaco police subjected Ted to three days of grueling torture designed to extort a false confession from him. (see description in "BASIC TIMELINE" in Thread 1 - http://206.112.97.70/forum/a3ad8b097272d.htm ).
Monaco continues to hold Ted incommunicado, preventing him from sending or receiving mail. In fact, they restrict his communication with his family to one telephone call a week. This call is only allowed to last a few minutes and is always monitored closely to prevent any discussion of the case. Ted is forced by his jailers to take a psychotropic medication and is regularly "interrogated" by the Monaco judge -- Patricia Richet. Reports have been received that Judge Richet is a violent person who has displayed unstable behavior in the past. She allegedly has a history of assaulting a fellow judge, putting him in the hospital for a week. She also tears up letters from Ted's children in front of Ted rather than let him read them.
Hundreds of family, friends, work associates, parents of patients, and Army veterans who served with Ted have vouched for him as being a loyal husband, loving father, and an exemplary professional of great skill and compassion. Ted has also been defended by then-chairman of the House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Ted's congresswoman Sue Kelly, who have written Prince Rainier III of Monaco on Ted's behalf. Monaco has no evidence of any crime by Ted; they have no witnesses and no credible case against him. Even worse, Monaco has planted false evidence and suppressed vast amounts of exculpatory evidence -- even passing a special Monaco law that enables them to hold Ted four years without trial.
The Geneva prosecutor has said that Safra was killed for his cooperation with the FBI regarding the laundering through Safra's Republic National Bank of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.
Regardless of the reason "why," it is obvious that Ted Maher is a scapegoat for a murder by others. We are working to obtain his release and to correct the grave injustice being done to an American Green beret veteran and medical professional.
Ted Maher -- a giver of life, not a taker -- needs our help.

Oops--they weren't supposed to actually catch the bad guys--
Whew--now all they had to do was turn a hero who'd defended Edmond Safra into a "lone nut" solely responsible--
And so they proceed in that efficient manner learned by Chief Inspector Olivier Jude at the FBI National Academy March, 1999--
Monaco police seize Ted, put him in four-point restraint, catheterize him, deprive him of sleep for 72 hours--
They conspire to get Heidi over from New York to visit the hero in the hospital--
Once in the Safra car in Monaco, however, it is diverted to the police station, where they seize Heidi's passport--
[All there in the letters of Michael Griffith to our Consulate in Marseilles, having long been posted here on Free Republic]--
The passport they show to Ted with the threat that his wife is being strip-searched and tortured and will be detained indefinitely--
Altogether with the secretly-taken photos of the couple's children, and the secretly-recorded tapes of the children's voices--
So under the extreme psychological pressure of threats upon his love ones, Ted signs the typed police-prepared false "confession"--
In French, which Ted does not read, write or speak--
And this confession is forced upon Ted for three years by the Monaco-paid pre-tend de-fenders, Georges Blot and Donald Manasse--
Witness the press pool at the trial, how they laugh at the antics of the extorted "confession"--these sophisticated journalists know it is absurd--
They laugh at the claim that Ted cut himself--for they know how the game is played in Monaco--
The defendant always "confesses"--and the "confession" is never recanted--
The truth is a stranger in a Monaco court room, as alien as at a Stalin show trial, or Maoist self-accusation.
In fact, Ted has impressed observers with his keen and persistent questioning--
He has made Sonia the obvious fabricator she is--
While Lily has agreed with the defense that the delay of the police is the cause of her husband's death--
And Samuel Cohen the Mossad-trained security chief testified had the police not detained him he could have recovered Edmond Safra and Vivian Torrent alive.
And still Monaco has to awaken Ted every twenty minutes in order to make him appear tired, confused--whatever--yet. . . .
It only serves to expose the heart of the matter: an extorted false confession enforced by a police state.
Monaco, now would be a good time to save face--release Ted.
The locksmiths said the doors were not locked.
The head of security said you handcuffed him--while you released the two suspects in the garage.
You took three hours to recover two corpses in the heart of the city--
Release the scapegoat or become the laughing stock--you're already the black sheep.

At the outset Monaco prosecutor Daniel Serdet told the world press Ted was on drugs--
He lied.
Monaco's Princess Grace Hospital tested Ted for drugs and alcohol and its results were negatif negatif negatif
This report was featured on DatelineNBC November 21, 2000, "Who Killed the Billionaire?"
Dateline quickly removed its transcript from its website claiming "lack of interest"
The transcript is archived on the Ted Maher site to expose Serdet's lie;
The Monaco prosecutor lied then and lies to this day on this key point.
Serdet claimed Vivian died of "asphyxiation"--
But her autopsy shows she was strangled and spattered with Edmond's blood--
Both victims had DNA not belonging to Ted under their nails.
Lily cremated Edmond, obscuring forensic evidence, and she paid off Vivian's husband with $2,000,000 of her personal funds--
Had she allowed the insurance company to investigate, its findings would have exploded the use of a scapegoat.
The fire report notes multiple points of ignition in the penthouse itself;
The fire report cites a sudden conflagration an hour after Ted was rushed to the hospital with wounds requiring 100 staples and numerous transfusions.
Ted's attorneys have complained about Monaco waking Ted every twenty minutes.
Prosecutor Serdet claims to know nothing.

Lily sent Edmond's security team away that night, and her paid agent pencilled in Vivian and Ted at the last minute--
The day Lily's change of citizenship was finalized and the day the sale of Edmond's bank was approved.
