"...as Republicans give up..."

I'd say those 4 words sum up their strategy on just about everything.

Its a sign the battle lines will shift shortly to the courts. The constitutionally forcible rape tsunami is simply to big to be stopped in Congress. That's why Republicans have decided to make the best of a bad situation and fight the battle to save freedom of speech on more friendly territory.

Such a load of crap. These wankers know that this law is unconstitutional, but they pass it anyway. Basically admitting that they can't control themselves around money...that they can be bought. This so call reform will change nothing except our ability to speak out about bad policy, bad people & bad ideas.

"The opponents of this bill are ready to move on," he said.

Has anyone else had about enough of that particular phrase?
It is generally used when politicians are fixin' to do the wrong thing.

So when the RNC calls me asking for money, what shall I say?

A two-word phrase starting with the letter 'f' immediately comes to mind

P**@ies.

It's not even the Soft money that @##@es me off so much as the ban on ISSUE ads and the GAG rule.

They will NEVER shut me up.

McConnell said that, following passage, he would move quickly to challenge portions of the bill in court. Opponents say that restrictions on campaign contributions violate First Amendment free speech rights.

I sure hope McConnell follows through with a court challenge. I don't think the President will be vetoing CFR, anytime soon.

The parts of this CFR bill, that would directly restrict 1ST Amendment rights, will probably reach the USSC at some time. At that point, those restrictions will hopefully be voted down by the SC justices and determined to be, unConstitutional. I can't see the high court siding with such unadulterated trash.

Posters to this thread are characterizing this as a great republican defeat. I don't think so. It has become apparent that the republicans enjoy such a huge advantage in hard money that the democrats would never pass an increase to it on a stand alone basis. Now, I think the republicans are counting on the courts to throw out garbage and leave the increase in hard money in place. As for the democrats, they had assumed Bush would veto it based on what they regard as the laughable republican commitment to principle, giving them an issue for the fall ( poor babies, they have nothing to run on ). Now they may be hoist by their own petard.

He added that Bush's decision to stay on the sidelines and not come out against the legislation made it more difficult to fight. "If the president had indicated an antipathy it certainly would have made it easier to defeat it," he said.

Sad. What a shame.

Wow! Such cowardice hasn't been seen since...well since the last time the Republican senators caved in to the Democrats on an issue. Someone please explain to me again, for the umpteenth time, why this party deserves my support?

""It's a very fine moment," said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz"

Yes, all of the training and indoctrination he underwent in the Hanoi Hilton as paid off. He has eliminated the First Ammendment to that document of hate, the Constitution of the United States of America. He is in line for an Order of Lenin.

Can you say "pocket veto" (in the side pocket )?

Were coming up on a recess aren't we ? This GOP "give up" looks more like a co-ordinated set up for a pocket veto.

Well who is to blame here? Who had the choice to either elect those who would follow the Constitution or elect those who were so called electable but not so honorable congressmen and senators. I see only one part of this Bill being Constitutional which is banning corporate high dollar donations. No self respecting canidate should be enslaved to them. Nowhere is "We the Corporation" in the Constitution. Rights are stated to individuals and states. I find myself at odds with my own congressman on this issue.

How about some voter imposed term limits anyone? Nah we don't need a law for it the choice is ours. Think about it next time congressman or Senator RINO is up for re-election. How vote ye? For the Constitution or for the GOP? If you want constitutional government it must be demanded and not excused. In other words do not re-elect them for the party win then complain when they do what? Sell you out! Because when you re-elect them You say yourself that principle is not important and Party is KING.

Silence, America!:

Silence, America!: for Silence, America!.

Other Bump Lists at: Free Republic Bump List Register

A further Mini-Editorial!

Folks, these clowns, corrupters, and frauds in Congress are trying to silence YOU!

Wake up, doggone it!

Rush and Hannity and all the hosts in the world can inveigh against this garbage day and night, but unless you actually do something about it, it will not matter one tiny iota!

Now is the time! If not now, when? When they arrest your wife or kids for "improper speech?"

Get off your rear ends and send some emails and faxes. Write letters, especially letters to editors.

Call talk shows- the local ones are easy to get on and reach a lot more people than you may realize.

This- right here, this "issue"- is where the rubber meets the road...

There are over 70,000 members here, and I know each of you knows at least two or three more people you can tell about this-- so do it! Now!

And tell them to tell 2 more people, and tell them to "pass this on to 2 more..."

The right to speak freely is as fundamental to a free society as the right to defend yourself against unprovoked attack. This is a frontal assault on your liberty and the freedom of your children and spouse.

It's time to move out, folks- march, or die....

Here's a Note to Activists:

Want to do something? Go here:

Ignorance Making You Ill? Cure It!

for links, tools, & instructions about how to contact a pile of different people, and how to send a link to this story right here ( or anywhere else ) to a "mass email" using Outlook Express.

I say again, people- it's time to speak up- or be forever silenced!

A further aid for activists:

Sorry for the difficulties some of you experienced yesterday in reaching the
> web site to send out the 100 faxes to all 100 U.S. Senators through Sixty
> Second Activist.  The URL was so long it sometimes jumped to a second line
> in the transmission, thus breaking the link.  Here's a shorter link that
> should take you to where you need to go:
>
> https://secure.chargedcontribution.com/ATA_60s_Shays-Meehan2/gopnv.asp
> ( this link, while not free, allows you to send faxes to 100 senators for $21.... )

I say one last time- speak up now, or be forever silenced!
