Your story about the football games brings to mind an incident at an outdoor event we attended last summer. People were walking around the grounds checking out the vintage cars and tractors. When the National Anthem began playing over the loud speaker, I spotted an older gentleman not far from us who, standing with his cane, had stopped and placed his hat over his heart. He stood there reverently until The Anthem finished playing. Needless to say I choked up after witnessing that. My heart filled with joy seeing his devotion, but sadness too as he was the only one who took the time to show that much respect. Just beautiful!!!
Hope you have a wonderful day!
Hey FRiends to the south, hope that rain is calming down for ya...ya'll be safe now OK???
A whopping 15 degrees here right now and LOTS of wind (Hey, no snakes, right :^)), LOL)
Looking forward to a GREAT day at our wonderful Canteen!!
Thank you kindly dear Lady.
Re: hat off during National Anthem....Yeah, that was only one occasion that I related, there were many more times.
It just makes my blood boil to stand there and see, well, morons, leave their hat on during the playing of the National Anthem.
Call me goofy, but at parades, I even stand and hand over heart, or if I have my American Legion hat on, Salute, when the colors pass by.
Hope you are having a great day and staying dry FRiend.....J
Heard from my sister last night. Her son/my nephew is on a major high since signing up...said she's never seen him so focused and excited about something.
I took my daughter to a Monarchs game (Women's Pro Basketball) last year. Great seats...we were so excited to be there. The anthem began playing...most everybody stood for the anthem but very very very few touched their hearts. Instead, most left their caps on, chewing gum, eating, and being generally disrespectful. Only 2 basketball players showed proper respect. It was a great lesson for my daughter..she noticed it as well. I have quite the patriotic almost 12 year old. :o)
Next generation FReeper...GREAT NEWS!
She sides up with me to read the Daily Dose every night. We watch Hannity and Colmes and the O'Reilly Factor as a family. She doesn't miss it if she can help it. I'm proud of my sweet pea. :o)
(((( hugs ))))
