USO Canteen Freeper Style
War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil. We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.
On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.
William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."
The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.
This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.
This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.
Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!
"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

My nephew signed up for the Navy today! He took his tests and has requested the Electronic Warfare field. In August he'll head to Great Lakes for basic, where my uncle (and grandfather before his death) is one of the Navy barbers. From there he'll be heading to Pensacola, where my husband was during AOCS. :o)
I'd like to know if there are any Navy folks out there that can give a layman's definition of Electronic Warfare and the danger factor for a young Navy man. I'm proud of my nephew and know he'll do a wonderful job in his chosen profession. I checked out the Navy website and got some good info...but it's always nice to learn info from Freepers.
Thanks in advance.

Sassy, looks like a sunny Saturday. :)

I look forward to grandchildren (but I'm not in a hurry). I love children with all my heart, but I can't have any more. I tell my kids they have to live next door to me when they grow up and get married, so I can play with their kids. I'm sure their spouses would love living next door to me. :)

Aquamarine, your post #256 is so interesting about the weather.

Whoever, this story about the marbles gave me goosebumps and tears in my eyes. Thank you for the wonderful story Who.

Congratulations hm, you should be mighty proud of that nephew, tell him thank you for me!!
He'll be fine Ma'am, although I wasn't Navy, he may be placed in harms way, that's the nature of the Beast, but God will always be there....

I go to that Intellicast site alot. The Weather Channel on cable TV is mostly commercials and documentary's now, they hardly ever give the weather anymore and frankly it cuts into my freeping time sitting through all of their nonsense. So now when I want to know the forecast I go to Intellicast and type in my state and town and in seconds I know everything I need to know then its back to FR and the Canteen!

Re: A RED MARBLE Thanks for that Red Marble story. It brought out the tears and now I'm having to rely on my typing skills since I'm having trouble reading the monitor. The story brought back some very fond memories for me. Here's another true story to go along with it.
My Dad was known for many things, including his sense of humor and practical jokes he played on folks.
One of his favorites was to walk up to someone and hand them a marble with the explanation that he had heard that they "lost their marbles" and he was returning one that he found. For those old enough to be familiar with the "lost your marbles" phrase, the laughter was shared by everyone. However, some younger folks unfamiliar with the reference to one's sanity, probably questioned Dad's sanity.
When Dad died in 1996, we five siblings were looking through some of Dad's momentos. There in his dresser, in a small box, we found his stash of marbles. Each of us took a marble for ourselves and all his grandchildren.
There were five marbles left. My sisters went to the store, bought some crazy glue, and glued those 5 marbles together and attached them to a tie tack.
The story of Dad's habit of dispensing marbles was told at his funeral service. Throughout the church sanctuary, smiles were formed and heads nodded in agreement at having been one of Dad's victims.
At the end of the funeral service, as people passed by the casket, they saw Dad's new marble tie tack.

Yikes,my gosh. That is a lot of rain. I know how it feels, from living in Malibu with mud slides and whew all kinds of things. Keep in touch if you can.
To: SpookBrat; aquamarine
I sure hope it is nice on Saturday! :)
Aquamarine, thank you for that link. I am always thankful for the radar maps.
I think (I hope) the rain is stopping for a while. We didn't get water in our house, but our shed has about 4 inches in it. Our neighbors down the street are completely flooded.
Well all, have a great evening.
To: SAMWolf
That's a SCREAM SAM!!!! One more time...you ain't right Bro!! LOL

Wow, I can't believe how much rain ya'll are getting down there, stay safe, hear?
To: Snow Bunny
So far so good, we only had a very little bit of water get in our house around the fire place. But our neighbors are completely flooded. The rain has stopped for now, I hope it is done for tonight. I imagine that we will have the weather channel on most of the night.
I'm headed for bed. I hope you have a great night. I will see you tomorrow! :)
To: SassyMom
I'm watching it, it's coming my way...should be here by tomorrow night. Just a little north of me in Knoxville Tenn. and Kentucky they are already having some bad flooding from a previous storm cell. I hope they get spared this time but its not looking too good for them.

Just got off the phone with Pray4 a little while ago and she wanted me to say Hey to everybody on the Canteen and that she misses us all.
Her FR time is limited due to scheduling so I am doing the honors by proxy...:^)
