The Democrats have been desperately seeking a wedge issue to hurt Bush with. Wouldn't it be sadly ironic if this is it?

Maybe he can make up for his impeachment acquittal vote. No, nothing can make up for that.

If racist Byrd is against it, maybe we should reconsider our opposition?

Bush is not so good at playing this political game as he thought he was. He has managed to alienate his base and now the democrats will get credit, thanks to Robert Byrd, of stopping his insane plan to give amnesty to illegal aliens. Bush is toast in 2004! Toast I tell you.

Bless your heart Robert Byrd. Help us kill it and we'll let W. Va get all the pork you ask for!

Am I imagining something? Or did Byrd and the Dems just walk into a suckerpunch? Lemme see if I have this straight. Byrd and the Dems are opposing the "pet issue" for millions of Hispanic voters, while GWB and the Republicans are now seen as being "on our side" by those same Hispanics. Am I leaving anything out?

Senator Byrd is gonna hafta get something before this legislation goes forward. I'll bet he honestly thinks amnesty is a bad idea but will be convinced to change his mind.

Political reality is Byrd got some nasty calls from home on this one. This is not New York or Texas this is West Virginia. The state with closed steel mills and coal mines that are being undercut by imports. For Byrd it's political survival for Bush it's pandering. Byrd does have a somewhat strong record defending his state on imports and trade policies. About once a year Byrd puts up a good fight and is right when he does. Came early this year I guess.

All Klansmen must hang.

With that out of the way, I'd like to add that Byrd has his own motives for dragging this out, selfish ones. Hell, he even has some so-called conservatives supporting him now, he's a dangerous buffoon.

There's no reason why illegal aliens should be allowed to be citizens of this great and inevitably just nation after 9/11. They don't deserve it, they know it, and it behooves us to uphold our honor and prestige as a sovereign nation.

Democrats have exposed themselves again as the party of race and of hate as when they owned slaves, their own infamy ultimately damns them.

Ya know, Latino women, especially the Cubans, have a lot of cuties in their ranks. And they seem to stay younger looking and in better shape than other women, generally speaking.

I think that only the young, Latino women should get amnesty.

California is under siege. The masses of immigrants has inundated the infrastructure and the quality of life in rural, agricultural areas is has diminished to third world levels. The saftey net (welfare), public hospitals, public education, law enforcement, the local courts/jails and transportation are swamped by these masses.

At the federal level neither the districts courts nor the INS has the budget or the man power to cope with the problem. Since the mid 1990's the INS in central California has strictly been limited to investigating and prosecuting the commercial end of alien smuggling (the "coyote")

The need for cheap labor is not an issue. There is such a vast labor pool of immigrants that registered unemployment is near 7% and the figure is probably closer to 20% if illegal aliens are entered into the stats.

The issue is and has been for the last twenty years the willingness of our federal and state government to tolerate illegal immigration. The numbers are snowballing and few have a workable solution in sight.

43's attempt to pander to this unregulated mob is simply unprincipled and unforgiveable.

But if the Republicans agree to name it the "Robert Byrd Amnesty Amendment" and to build the "Amnesty Highway" in West Va., Byrd will move it forward.

Sen. Robert C. Byrd, West Virginia Democrat, yesterday said he will delay passage of border-security legislation because it now contains a provision of amnesty for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants.

Whaddaya know. A Democrat who has enough common sense to know that government shouldn't be rewarding criminals at the expense of citizens. Hear that, George?
