Thanks for the ping Jr. I wasn't aware of this. Guess this is happening between Byrd's senility spasms.

This made my day. Mr.Byrd knows that American is a sovereign nation and Vincente Fox is not going to be allowed to dictate American domestic policy to us. Finally, some sense in this matter and I support Mr.Byrd and his actions. The majority of Americans are against this insane idea and many of our reps ignored our calls and told us to take a hike. I suggest that the reps who voted this through the house get on the right side of the law and stop rewarding lawbreakers. Thank you, Senator Byrd!

Why is the rebuttal to those who are disappointed in Bush always "you can't get everything"? That is a condescending reply and merely deflects from the issues. The excuse for Bush on this thread has been that he really is against amnesty, he's just lying to the Hispanics and everyone else to win votes and get the Dems to kill it, which is what Bush presumably wants. As far as the political end game, Bush has astrononomical approval ratings, due to 9/11 and his war response. So these kind of cynical electioneering ploys aren't really necessary, IMO, and cast Bush as an endless campaigner as opposed to a principled man of substance. I recall another recent president with that label. The hand Bush has been dealt isn't as bad as to justify his cavings to the left, unless that is where his heart lies.

Remember folks, it's not just Byrd who opposes this amnesty - it's a lot of principled Republican congressman. Are they all bigots too? Keep that in mind when you use the tactics of the left to defend Bush.

"Who will the Hispanics blame?"Which party is voting against it? THE RAT PARTY. :-)

If it doesn't have pork for West Virginia, Senator Byrd is going to fight.

Reviewing the defense of Bush on this thread:
1) Bush is opposed to amnesty - he's merely lying to the hispanics to get their vote;
2) Bush is for amnesty, it's a good idea;
3) One must parse Bush's words, a la Clinton, to understand the political end-game.
4) Anyone opposed to amnesty is a racist like Byrd, including ostensibly, the majority of Republicans in the House;
5) Karl Rove is the great political genius pushing the buttons behind Bush, deep down there's a conservative agenda ready to be whipped out at the right time, presumably sometime after 2004, although there's then the 2006 elections to plan for.

Geron, you will find those who are so rabid about immigration---and hey, I'm for CONTROLLED AND LEGAL immigration---are at the core quite racist. You sound just like a liberal, but that's not surprising since you support Bush.

How about, he kills it, and we still don't give him the pork?

Wanna bet he caves?

So, if Latinos flock to the GOP because the Democrats voted against Amnesty...
What will the RINOs have to give them to stay?

His proposed treatment of the illegal immigrants is totally consistant with Jesus's instructions on the treatment of our neighbors.We've been attacked, illegal immigrants have NO RIGHT to be here.

You're never happy, are you? This was brilliant stateregy on Bush's part, but you can't the forest through the trees. I'll leave it up to you to figure it out.

Three cheers for BYRD. This is win win for anti illegal immigration people and lets the Hispanics blame the Dems for this one.

You bet you're leaving something out! If Bush doesn't get this now, he will be back to get it again until he does!
Business wants that cheap labor! You don't need to understand anything more than that!

"If Bush gets 40% of the Hispanic vote and 15% of the black vote, ANY Democrat in 2004 is dead meat, road kill, yesterday's news, an asterisk in the history books. I think Hiilary! knows that, which is why she'll sit on the sidelines and watch Al Gore auger in and burn, again." I always like to read your analysis. I agree with this 110%
A B+ for Bush from you is high praise in my opinion.

There's a forest of 2 million Illegals living in my county. Now, would you like to take a stab at my question?

I'm sure there's a brilliant strategy here, so just clue me in.

"We've been attacked, illegal immigrants have NO RIGHT to be here."
Why is this simple concept so hard to grasp?
To: Sabertooth
Brilliant Strategy left town.
