Sen. Robert C. Byrd, West Virginia Democrat, yesterday said he will delay passage of border-security legislation because it now contains a provision of amnesty for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants.

The numbers being thrown around range from 200,000 to 350,000 Illegals who'll benefit from this mini-amnesty, if it makes it through the Senate and Bush signs it. Yep mostly spouses or family memebers who become illegal because of an INS beauracracy.
And your new hero grand wizard Byrd is holding up needed reforms that are part of this bill.

Mr. Bush has bashed himself. His primary implement of self-abuse are the peasants supplied by that suave fellow,
Citizen Fox-He of the Land to the South, the Land of Infinite Corruption, Drugs, Death, & a Limitless Supply of Criminal Aliens.
By the way, Mr. Bush also walks daily on our Constitution. They of his catagory, all do.
The only ends of modern government are Control & Taxation. Every tweak of the rules is to those ends. Every crisi an opportunity for further perfection of their efforts.
Try reading a few of Mr. Sobran's columns, say from about November through Feb, & see what you think about what he thinks of our vaunted leaders. The NWO is not necesarily a fiction of the extreme paranoid. Conspiracy is not required where all natural interests converge. Article posted today about the comming UN conference on World Democracy-they only want to help us.

Sarcasm may or may not have voted for Bush, but I certainly did. And I'm certainly feeling the way he does about Bush and his so called "Republicans." I didn't think it was medically possible to remove the backbone of living people, but apparently if you are a Republican officeholder you've been subjected to that procedure. Sort of like an X-file, don't you think? Or maybe a sci-fi movie: The Legends of Marycarville: The Invansion of the Jelly Fish Republicans and the Brainless Bald Headed Clones.

I've said nothing about Byrd. Your hero, George W. Bush, played shady politics by using the Homeland Security bill for an Amnesty Trojan Horse.
Are you complaining because he got caught?

What shady politics? The bill was out there for everybody to read and there was a roll call vote.
I am complaining about the politics of hyperbole and fear that you play.

You may have not but all your allies on this thread have basically said the old grand wizard is the second coming. You are known by the company you keep.

Guilt by Association fallacy.

IMHO it's a win win for the President.

Even the grand poobah of the anti-immigration(Sabertooth) threads has admitted that this bill is not a blanket amnesty.
This bill was focused at mostly at families to keep them together and there was about 200,000 people who could apply.
And there were many needed reforms in this bill that got lost in the hyperbole and fear.

Guilt by Association fallacy. Are you feeling guilty that many of your allies have nothing but second coming praise for Senator pork barrel grand wizard Byrd?

Yes, It is. The mississipian thinkers (wide, but shalllow) xenophobes on this thread notwithstanding.
All of you nuts, that are kneeling down before Grand Wizard Byrd, ask yourself One question.
Where was he when a President of his party was weakening the INS, and fast tracking millions of illegals in time for '96?
He is looking to be bought, plain and simple, and for those of you to simplistic to see it, you ought to try thinking things ALL THE WAY through once in a while...Perspective can be a beautiful thing. 245(i) is not amnesty. It is the cheapest most effective way to get those that are going to become legal anyway, legal. The INS is better served getting them processed than chasing them down, deporting them, and then processing their paperwork 6 months down the road.

Anti-Illegal threads. Can't you get anything right?
As to the "blanket amnesty" straw man you keep tossing around, I haven't seen a single poster claim that this was that. I certainly never did.
Please flag me if you do, and I'll be happy to correct them.

Uh, no. I bear no one's guilt but my own.
Some have been excessive in their praise of Byrd, some have been muted, and some, like me, haven't commented.

Sadly enough the right wing media hysteria about this matter was woefully uninformed. Rush ranted and raved for days, losing all credibility among those who actually understood the bill.
It would have helped tho if a single person from the administration had taken the time to actually explain the bill and it's purpose.
Wish we had a more informed radio talk show host who took the time understand and then comment on various issues rather than this knee jerk hyperbole.
To: Bogey78O
About time you guys started to figure that out.

When you start applauding KKK members, then you'll see why many of us who are pro-immigration ultimately end up in discussions of racism. It is the ONLY factor that ultimately separates your arguments from every other logical argument about immigration, namely that there was MORE immigration, and HIGHER RATES of immigration per capita in MANY earlier years, including the ENTIRE DECADE from 1900-1910; that MANY other groups, including GERMANS were far less assimilated than you think Hispanics are (there were 27 DAILY German newspapers in 1910); that these groups were viewed as a direct national security threat, as opposed to some nebulous concerns over "Aztlan" or whatever.
So when this comes up again, all you need say is, "I stand with Klansman Byrd."

Geron, you will find those who are so rabid about immigration---and hey, I'm for CONTROLLED AND LEGAL immigration---are at the core quite racist. When you separate out all the arguments (in the past we've had more immigration; higher RATES of immigration; higher immigration per population; LESS ASSIMILABLE immigrants, such as the Germans), the only pole left standing (no pun) is race.
I really didn't want to come to that conclusion, but when I see any Freepers standing with Byrd---especially after the apologists for Buchanan kept trying to claim that they "really aren't racists," then the writing is on the wall.
What needs to happen is for these people who argue so rapidly against "illegals" need to begin proposing some LEGAL plans to keep families togehter; to continue to admit Hispanics and other immigrant groups; and YES, TO SECURE THE BORDERS against illegals. But the latter without the former, I'm sorry to say, does involve racism.

I stilll disagree about the ed bill. It does NOT "kill vouchers." It leaves a tiny window open, that the Supreme Court decision in June will blow as wide as an asteroid. Moreover, by DEMANDING accountability and competition, the education reform side has dealt a serious blow to the unions.
And while we're at it, don't forget who KILLED vouchers in California---the Christian Right, afraid of government interference in the schools.
