Republicans gain two seats in the Senate unless John Thune beats Tim Johnson in South Dakota. Then I make it a three-seat gain.
Li'l Tommy Daschle will pull out all the stops to try to save his South Dakota colleague, because he realizes what a blow it would be to his chances (however dim) of running for President if he loses both his Majority Leader seat and a boatload of credibility even as Majoority Leader, by not saving Johnson.
And as for Tipper Gore running for the Senate, what a joke. Her husband the Gore-bot tried to jump start his campaign by giving her that legendary spooch at the Democratic National Convention. What's she going to do in return to try to jump start her campaign? Give him a Lewinsky on prime-time television?
The silly season is upon us. But the adults are still in charge nationally. After November, they will again be in charge in the Senate.
