When a freeper replies to a post, and then is replied to, and then s/he responds again, and is replied to again..........

This all applies if you are just a Freeper replying to another freeper. If you posted the article you have somewhat of a responsibility to keep replying.
Having said that, there is NO reply required for obscenity or rudeness.

If you are having an intelligent discussion and each is making valid points, continue to reply. If someone is just arguing for the sake of arguement just let the discussion drop. There are no real rules.

I'm not certain what ethics has to do with it , but how about this ? Just do what you do in society , you have a conversation with people and perhaps you walk away having offered or learned something . Its no big deal Nevada !

Depends on the reply. Sometimes it is just a quick I agree or I disagree. Can't argue with that. Sometimes the reply doesn't make sense. I will ask for clairification. Sometimes I see the error of my ways and am just to embarrassed to admit to all and I slink away.
and sometimes the reply is too stupid to waste time on.
and sometimes it is a flame, see stupid above.
and sometimes it is a well thought out response, at which point I feel honor bound to at least acknowledge it.
but in the end, reply, don't reply, the current is moving so fast on Free Republic that it will not be noticed if you do or don't.

There is no responsibility to reply, unless you post a vanity asking a stupid question, in which case you should at least give the appearance of being interested in the replies.

BITE ME!!! ROFLMAO...I drop out when my blood pressure medication is no longer effectively functioning as it should and the writting on the monitor starts running together. I think most go by Jungle Rules..ie..whenever there is a stalemate/no win situation. Back into the bunker.

If you've been on this forum since "1999" -- as per your profile page -- and still haven't figured out the answer to this question, then, you should run for president on the Dem ticket. Al Gore was in public service for 25 years and still hadn't learned how to give a speech. You'd be real competition for him! :)

We are all here voluntarily! There is the right answer.
When we post up, we're offering a comment in the forum. Nobody, it seems to me, has an obligation to reply, even if I posted to them. Many obligations and time commitments can intervene. I don't think anyone should take it amiss if someone they've posted to doesn't reply.
If they're still posting up, however, some acknowledgment would be nice. But nobody owes me a reply to my 200-word monograph on whether Abraham Lincoln was justified in suspending habeas corpus, or Randy Weaver was obliged to show up for his court date after being entrapped by ATF. I may have opinions that are so advanced, so dazzling, that they may simply stun all the other Freepers into silent awe and admiration; so I can't expect any response right away, and maybe at all! ;^D

Where is the ethical point at which to drop out of the discussion when you still have more to say but don't have time to keep going on it? Either find the time to logically and definatively finish them off with irrefutable facts, destroying their argument or send them an e-mail!

Just say you have to take a shower.
To: NevadaY
For one thing, never reply to a vanity post.
But, if you need an excuse, tell them you have to go take a shower.

Just make every post longer than your last one. That's my strategy anyway.
If you're just straight up trying to get out of the discussion, post about 20 paragraphs concerning the Illuminati. Only the most hardcore will stay with you then. I've never done this myself, but am observant and have noticed that is a good way to silence someone. It might be handy to keep some of that good stuff on a file on your hard drive so you can just cut and paste.

If the person doesn't get the point after your 2nd response - their probably NOT a FREEPER! More likely it's a DU lurker!! I don't understand. Can you be more specific?
To: NevadaY
Hey Nevada. Now you can reply to post #29 with a "Bite Me" and that should take care of that response. See, it's easy.
To: NevadaY
I guess some people are just lonely have nothing else to do but type back and forth, hay are you talking about me? LOL
To: NevadaY
All replies must cease when;
1)Either party calls the other one a Nazi.
2)The words cheese, moose, or Hobbit Hole appear anywhere in the response.
To: NevadaY
PS I hope your respond personally to all of us who answered your question................I am waiting.........................
