You must be kidding. This husband is one "old fashioned" man. He must be the boss in the family, giving his wife only a few hours a week for relaxation. He must have children to be head of such a household.

About how much will it cost the taxpayers of Texas to house, clothe, and feed this woman for the next 40 years? Just ballpark...about 1.5 million dollars, or so?

Life means like 5 - 10 years? Texas may be more literal than the rest of the country.

She has to serve at least 40 years before she is eligible for parole.

11:54 PST (AP) -- "Those children never had a chance and you need to think about those children," district attorney Kaylynn Williford said in closing arguments of the penalty phase. But avoiding a forceful call for Yates' death, she said: "Whatever decision you make, the state will accept."

To impose the death penalty, the jury needed to decide unanimously that Yates was a future danger and that there were no mitigating circumstances against executing her. The jury answered no to the first question and therefore did not have to answer the second.

I remember someone mentioning on an earlier thread that it would cost about $53 per day to keep Yates incarcerated. I could be wrong about this, though.

That works out to $773,800 over 40 years.

What a horrible thought! She and ole Rusty can't keep their hands off each other. I'll bet that she gives birth to more kids in jail. Then Rusty will have to drown them himself. Yuk

There was one report a few weks ago that he may have been having an affair--reason for Andrea's being so distraught.

If that is true, (considering his attitudes hasn't seemed to me to be devastated at the lost of his children), it would be -- get rid of the wife, no children now, a whole new future.

But prosecutors may also go after him will charges of child endangerment.

What I cannot understand is that this turned out exactly like we said it would -- why did she put us all through this?

I'm a supporter of the death penalty, but I think Life is the best sentence for this case. I don't think people understand what mental ilness is all about. I think her husband should be punished for child endangerment for leaving her at home and not seeking medical help for her.

About the same as it would cost to file appeal, after appeal, after appeal....

Much to my family's dismay, I DID think she deserved a death sentence. Nevertheless, letting Mrs. Yates rot in prison for most of the rest of her adult life is not such a bad idea.

From what I hear, Susan Smith (that c-nt who murdered her child but didn't get death because South Carolineans were loath to execute a woman) has gotten repeatedly beaten in prison.
