AILEY'S CROSSROADS, Va. - In a small enclave of Northern Virginia, surrounded by upscale shopping malls and affluent, manicured suburbs, immigrants speaking a total of about 70 languages struggle to build new lives in the face of poverty, overcrowding, and crime.

I know what you mean, things get blown out of proportion, IMO.

It gives fodder to the doom and gloomers.

Enact and enforce reasonable occupancy limits on residential housing and these third world islands in Fairfax and elsewhere will vanish.

If they did this, where would all the rich lefties in Fairfax get their gardners, nannies, maids, cooks, and "day labor" people from? You don't REALLY expect these rich elitist leftists to actually pay a American a "living wage",do you? Nope,MUCH better to give them welfare, food stamps, etc, etc, etc. That way the middle-class who do all this work for themselves help them pay their help through taxes.

I see the NWO crowd is out in full force to make sure they are able to cram the new amnesty and wide open borders down our throats.

My guess is they will pass their amnesty. It's not going to be much fun for them, though, trapped behind the high walls of their estates when they can't go out on the streets any more.

BTW, if that amnesty passes, check out the companies making Kelvar. Even if they're a bit over-valued right now, they should be in for a good steady run as a staple in life.

You mean like the 43 Mexican Consulates in 19 US states to aid the illegals and lobby state legislatures to push for US drivers licenses in exchange for a Mexican card? Mexico Consul General calls for repeal of Colorado law

GLENWOOD SPRINGS — Mexico’s Consul General for Colorado called Thursday for the repeal of a state law prohibiting undocumented residents from obtaining driver’s licenses. Consul General Leticia Calzada, who serves a multi-state region that includes Colorado, called the restriction “very tough for them and for me, too.”

Or maybe you meant the one in Houston. Houston Police to honor Mexican ID cards

An identity card routinely issued by the Mexican Consulate to citizens living in Houston will be considered official identification by Houston police officers.

BTW, are all these 43 consulates now considered to be Mexican soil like the embassy?

You know, you are right about most immigrants being family-oriented, church going people. In Fairfax County, the majority of parents who care enough to publicly inquire about what is being taught in the sex-ed classes are immigrants. The natives are already so sex-saturated by the culture that they don't care what is taught to their kids in these classes. It seems to me that the IMMIGRANTS are here demonstrating the values that used to be widespread in our society.

I'm quite familiar with the neighborhood myself. In fact I've eaten at the Peking Gourmet - a great restaurant BTW - in the last several months.

The apartment complex mentioned is indeed a haven for Central/South American "immigrants." I suspect large numbers of them are illegal aliens or at the least visa scofflaws, because they wouldn't be sleeping on someone's living room couch if they came to the U.S. under proper financial sponsorship regulations. The labor market at the 7-11 is huge, sometimes as many as 30 to 50 guys milling around waiting for work. Verizon finally removed the bank of pay phones from the street nearby, probably there was a lot of credit card fraud taking place there (sometimes there would be 10 people waiting for the phones, and always one or more guys who appeared to my eyes to be "doing business").

As for the fellow who said "Northern Virginia has a problem with Asian home invasion gangs," I'd like to see a source for that statement. I just did a search on Fairfax County police reports for 2001 and found five home invasion incidents, two of which had Asian suspects, two guys in one case, a single guy in the the other. Hardly "gangs."

i know there was a big hub-bub a few years back about the Asian gangs and violent crime over in the shopping center where the Ames is at Seven Corners. I know because i raised the issue to the cop who stopped me for a traffic violation in Falls Church city.... I suggested her time would perhaps be better spent searching for the perpetrators of the Asian gang violence instead of stopping little ole me for cutting through a parking lot to get my kid to school on time... : )

I called y'all over here 'cuz this is happening right in your state.
I'm sure you'd like to hear what this a-hole has to say?
But aside from what this rag's article is supposed to focus on, check-out this wording...

"Most visitors to the area would scarcely notice Culmore. The Peking Gourmet Inn, patronized by three generations of the Bush family, is a few yards from the 7-Eleven convenience store, where scores of men hang around at dawn, hoping for work.

It'd take a full-blown Communist to write something like that...forget Socialist.

This fecal matter added to the other turd (posted today) proves the Boston Glode rag is really on a roll today, boyz.

You're so right about this. All of our ancestors were immigrants. There's one big difference now and that's the develpment of the welfare state.

Immigrants used to come to this country looking for an opportunity. Now too many come looking for a handout.

We are reaping what the welfare state has sown.

I too know the area as a friend of mine who works in Washington lives there. These are for the most part good hard-working people. They spend their week working like the devil and on week-ends, at parks and playgrounds, and in open greenspace they meet and hold barbeques, and play baseball and soccer games. They welcome visitors (and I should know)from outside the neighborhood, and the cops have a generally friendly relationship with them. This isn't Hell's Kitchen, and it sure as hell isn't Compton, California or the Bronx.

Go to any fast-food joint in Northern Virginia where all the workers are Mexican immigrants. You actually get service, and you get your order fast, and the food is good and the lines move quickly. Something we are certainnly not accustomed to here in central Virginia where the local yokels shuffle their way through the ordering process, barely able to communicate an English sentence, and after ordering, you cluster in a huddle until your number is called, the line backs up to the front door, and when you are finally served you discover your order is wrong and the service people couldn't care less.

I think a few hard working immigrants might improve the overall quality of this industry.

When they start refering to those living in the Southwest as the American occupiers as many of the Aztlan groups do then get ready for the fun and games. Once the lamestream press starts parroting this stupidity the end is near.

Not the same thing. Maybe if you lived in SoCal you would have a different outlook.

On this, I tend to agree with you 101%.

I'm so sick & tired of having some STUPID, UNinspired (*or* motivated) white kid -- ears & nose mutilated with the obligatory dyed blond hair who actually thinks he's living in, "Wayne's World" -- screw-up making me a gallon of white paint I could scream.

You nailed it, sultan my friend.
Let the chips fall where they may; & may the best man win.

That's the American way, after all.

Why is the press not reporting any of this? Or very little of it at best.

The press should fulfill their obligation to report the news to the American public and let them decide the issues.

I sometimes watch ABC, CBS, and NBC News just to see how much of the news they are not reporting. It's amazing!!

Northern Virginia has a problem with Asian home invasion gangs which often strike during the day time and torment those at home

Maybe in your northern VA, my northern VA has shall issue concealed carry and pretty reasonable gun laws, aside from some stupidity in Fairfax Cty regarding waiting periods.

Most Virginians have a lot more guns at home than the average NY/Baltimore/Philly/Chicago urban dweller. Methinks "Home Invasion" would be a dangerous sport in these parts. Better to go to DC or PG County MD where the homeowners can't shoot back.

You mean you didn't hear the outcry regarding racism when they tried this? There was a big stink in the papers when Fairfax County tried to crack down on creative housing arrangements.

I don't know anything about home invasions. I don't know if they are happening at all or not. But if home invasions are occurring, I would expect them to occur in the immigrant community. Immigrants have the reputation of preferring to deal in cash -- and, if prosperous, fairly liquid tangible assets. Immigrants may also be less inclined to obtain concealed carry permits -- if they are even eligible. On the other hand, if I were in the home invasion business, I would still take some care to pick targets that were less likely to maintain home defense firearms, or have the knowledge to use them.

These are for the most part good hard-working people.

You are absolutely right, and I shouldn't have focused so much commentary on the bad apples (illegals) in the Bailey's Crossroads area.

That Catholic church across the street from the apartments is absolutely packed every Sunday and for every conceivable religious event, and I you're also right that the nieghborhood is not South Central LA or the Bronx, not by a longshot. For the most part it seems a reasonably peaceful area. I rarely see any police activity there, aside from the fairly regular minor fender benders.
