There's plenty of laughter and a little sadness in the hunting community over an incident involving a deer that collided with an automobile driven by two animal rights campaigners who belong to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The folks who worship at the altar of animals now want to sue a New Jersey game department over the incident, claiming it's the state's fault that it happened.

lol....

#35 Yes, that's what I was thinking, or, they got extremely lucky. I had a friend in Montana who hit a BEAR with her Honda. It royally dented her car but she was so incredibly lucky she wasn't hurt. No one could believe it was a bear!

Who's representing the deer's family in an unlawful death lawsuit against PETA. After all, since all animals are just like humans, shouldn't someone pay for killing the innocent deer?

We have no idea where Penzer received his information about the deer fleeing hunters' guns. How could he know that, since even he said the crash occurred "near" the start of the New Jersey deer season. In other words, the hunt had not begun, so where are the deer "fleeing hunters' guns" coming from? And is he aware that during cool November days, a deer more often than not will be involved in chasing after a potential mate, not worrying so much about hunters.

Not to mention that there are no hunters chasing deer at one o'clock in the morning, even if it was in deer season. Nor does regulated hunting have any effect on total deer populations anyway. The fact is there are only so many deer that can live in a given area. Every year 1 new fawn is born for each doe. One deer will die for each fawn born. If they aren't taken by hunters or other predators, or die from disease, they will die of starvation.

These people are lunatics, plain and simple.

Exactly. As some long-haired bozo told the 1992 Presidential candidates assembled for debate, "We are all your children."

This is getting to be a mutual admiration society. I saw and heard that question, and I was as disgusted as you sound. Congrats on your perspicacity.

$6,000 in car repairs? I'd investigate this.

Too bad for the PETA fools.

Driving a dinky little Honda Civic instead of a good, solid American SUV probably resulted in the high repair costs. My question for these morons is this: why didn't they do the 'honorable' PETA thing and swerve into a tree to avoid hurting the poor little deer?

Seems like the wrong creature(s) passed on.

I struck a deer in 1998 while driving north to Birmingham, AL. from Panama City, FL, somewhere near Pine Level. I called the Highway Patrol on my cell phone (as the car I was driving belonged to my employer and I needed a police report), and the dispatcher told me,"It's 10pm, and I am not going to wake up one of my troopers to come down there to do a report on a deer strike. You go to the Patrol Barracks in Birmingham tomorrow and pick up a form #xxx, fill it out, put your information in the 'driver 1' blocks, and in the 'driver 2" block, you put "DEER"." Well, I did this, and when I returned to work and turned the car in, everyone came outside to see the damage, including our comptroller. I handed her the accident report- she didn't stop laughing for nearly an hour....

Your story said, "a deer that collided with an automobile".

I hope I'm not the only guy who points out that the statement should read, "an automobile collided with a deer" rather than the other way around.

On the other hand, I was deeply distressed to read that PETA drives a Honda civic. I thought they were banning importation of Japanese products on the basis that the Japanese were still hunting whales. A whale is mammal, but is PETA discriminating against animals from the sea?

Say, let's look up some info on PETA.

http://www.guidestar.org/pdf/2000/521/218/2000-521218336-1-9.pdf

Yes, let's see here...

This is a NON-PROFIT right?

Total expenses of $17,668,699.00 in 1999. With income of $15,834,435.

A whopping $2,197,323 in salaries and wages. Consultants took another $1,358,965 Press support cost them $2,037,848

Paramount Pictures got paid $434,843 for "gala"!

Tenth Planet got paid $776,390 for "gala."

Any freepers make 1.1 million for "gala"?????

Let's see where they send their moola...

Foundation to Support Animal Protection received $1,000,000!

Institute for in-vitro Sciences received $200,000.

PETA Europe $130,348

Stiching PETA Netherland received $105,763

PETA Deutschland E.V. received $215,305

Reviewing their assets page we find that:

They have listed a 1989 Jeep Cherokee, 1996 White Jeep Cherokee, 1996 Dodge Ram Van, 1997 Dodge 2500, 1997 Dodge 3500 Maxi Van, 1999 Dodge Van, 1999 Honda Civic LX, 2000 Dodge Cargo van and a Dakota Boat. I presume the Honda Civic listed at $15,355 is the one involved in the accident.

Ain't freedom the press wonderful...

Looks like those needy people need your donations! Keep those cards and letters going! /smirk

As an old-time deer hunter, and having observed our local and state deer population over the last fifty years, I can assure you that regulated hunting seasons DO have an effect on deer population.....if memory serves, back in the late fifties or so, California banned deer hunting for a few years. Around 1960, there were complaints about the number of deer killed on highways, starving to death, etc. Seems the number was up around 110,000.....think I saw that in an old Field & Stream or some such. Deer have been known to have twin fawns quite often, so it's not always one-for-one. Lacking natural predators (other than Man), or disease, managed seasons can certainly maintain a healthy herd. It's true, though, these sh*t-for-brains can be laughingstocks at times.......BTW, a recommended game: Deer Avenger (several versions) starring "Bambo", who uses an M-16, a bazooka, a slingshot full of deer pellets......well, you get the idea.

RE: Post #3

I'll try to add something. Assuming this deer was killed, IMO, the PETA operative needs to take the carcass and feed it to the hungry bears which are just coming out of hybernation.

OOPS, forgot to check if there are any bears in New Jersey.
