There's plenty of laughter and a little sadness in the hunting community over an incident involving a deer that collided with an automobile driven by two animal rights campaigners who belong to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The folks who worship at the altar of animals now want to sue a New Jersey game department over the incident, claiming it's the state's fault that it happened.

So the state supposedly made "an affirmative effort to increase the deer population". What? Did they hold socials? Potlucks? Enroll them in LoveMatch? Is PETA aware of the basic facts of life? Help me out here..........

This story just continues to make me laugh.

Picture this: two PETA protesters are driving home...after spending the day demonstrating against hunting.

And, these two are the ones that actually "bag a deer".

But, now they intend to sue, on the grounds that the state did not control the deer population...so to protect the human population.

Baited fields with viagra. Not only did it increase deer making, but those darn bucks started taking rifles away from hunters and beating them with the butt end.

Were the deer registered as democrats? Perhaps the PETAns were out on a 'get out the vote' drive sponsored by the Jackass Party. Maybe the deer--who the PETA people contend are far more noble and smarter than us--were on their way to a deer abortion clinic since they can't bear the stress of bringing anymore unwanted deer into the world since the government won't give them food stamps or welfare or public housing, or free condoms or....

March 1, 2002

Your excerpt says, "Shortly before 1 o'clock in the morning...while driving a Honda Civic belonging to PETA (and while returning from a PETA campaigning tour) southbound on the New Jersey Turnpike, a deer darted out in front of the car and a collision resulted..."

What I want to know is, why was a deer driving one of PETA's Honda Civics?

I can understand that PETA might think a deer is intelligent enough to drive a Honda Civic. I can even imagine PETA providing Honda Civics to deer so that they can drive themselves to campaign appearances. (This would also enable the deer to catch frightened humans in their headlights.) But so far as I know, a deer cannot obtain a driver's license in New Jersey. Therefore, the deer must have been driving illegally.

So why wasn't the deer arrested? Are the New Jersey State Police now showing favoritism toward deer? Are they, in fact, engaging in reverse cervidian profiling?

We must get to the bottom of this!
Good health to you.

Oh dear, the state is between a rock and hard place. Kill the deer, they offend the PETA wackos. Don't kill the deer, the human population isn't protected. There's just no pleasing some people.

a deer that collided with an automobile

Not exactly -- it was the automobile that ran into the deer. CLearly they were driving too fast for conditions.

Must have taken out a "bambi". A car the height a civic would undercut a fully developed animal and cause it to come through the windshield. Many times the deer walks away from this type colision though the same cannot be said for the drivers.

The following came from the January 2002 Competitive Enterprise Institutes CEI UpDate:

Oh Deer! Wildlife Pay the Price for PETA Publicity Stunt

A bizarre anti-hunting protest by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in Ohio reportedly has backfired badly on the very animals the group is pledged to protect. Knowing that hunters in the state are required to adorn themselves in bright, blaze orange colors in order to avoid accidental shootings, PETA activists reportedly tied hunting vests onto 405 captured deer that were released back into the wild. The object, evidently, was to disguise deer as hunters. But when word spread of the ruse, the owner of a Youngstown sportsman's store offered to hold a raffle involving any hunter who bagged a deer wearing one of the bright orange vests. It resulted in at least 308 of the animals being bagged as UpDate went to press. The rest may still be out there somewhere, trying their best to blend in and not look conspicuous.

Shortly before 1 o'clock in the morning on that date, while driving a Honda Civic belonging to PETA

Here's the problem PETA, Honda Civic. Stop spending money on stupid billboards and disgusting "trading cards for kids" and buy a Mercedes.

We hit a wild boar (guessing 250lbs.) at 55 mph. The only damage was a cracked plastic headlight cover. And we would have had a heck of a BBQ but couldn't quite get it into the trunk. Darn it!

here was ever any doubt that these people suffer from a terminal case of s**t-for-brains, this should end all speculation.

I don't know about New Jersey, but I'd love to see this case turn up in front of a Tennessee judge (with forewarning of which courtroom, when, and 24 hours to draw a gallery).
