Tancredo doubts he can block amnesty-extension bill
Denver Post ^ | March 8, 2002 | Bill McAllister

Friday, March 08, 2002 - WASHINGTON - Rep. Tom Tancredo takes credit for thwarting the Bush administration's last effort to offer partial amnesty to thousands of illegal residents, but Thursday the outspoken immigration foe said he may have been outmaneuvered by the White House.

President Bush has struck a deal with the House leadership to place legislation that offers an extension of amnesty on its consent calendar before Bush heads to Mexico for a state visit next week, the Colorado Republican said.

That action should ensure quick House passage of legislation that Bush has repeatedly sought from Congress. It would allow an undocumented person to receive legal standing, such as a valid green card, by filing a declaration with the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

It presumably also would require the person to have been in the United States by a certain date and have filed a declaration with the INS from an appropriate sponsor, such as a relative or employer, and pay a $1,000 penalty.

"The terms are still up in the air," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration, a group that has been allied with Tancredo. "We've heard to the effect that the president wants something to bring down to Mexico."

The initial Bush proposal, designed exclusively for Mexicans, once was high on the president's legislative wish list, but it was delayed after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. However, as the president noted Wednesday in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, he now is pushing for the extension of the amnesty program known by the section of immigration law that covers it, Section 245I.

The president hailed it as a way to reunite family, separated by the border. "If you believe in family values, if you understand the worth of family and the importance of family, let's get 245I out of the United States Congress and give me a chance to sign it," Bush told the chamber members.

Tancredo, the head of a congressional caucus on immigration issues and proponent of halting virtually all immigration, said he had blocked a previous attempt by Bush to push an extension of the amnesty program through the House. But this time, he said House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., had agreed to place the issue on the suspension, or consent, calendar, making it difficult to defeat the proposal.

The Senate might be more favorable to the bill than the House, expanding the numbers of individuals who can apply, Tancredo said.

It appears that way. IT's time to hold a massive march, and I do mean MASSIVE. We need to get all the organizations we can to get the word out.

This is treasonous. I couldn't believe how C-Span took a left-wing hack from the Los Angeles Times to talk about the bill. Everyone talking about "Homeland Security" is so full of it. Yeah, they're for taking away our rights, but allowing anyone to border jump. That's real homeland security.

They were talking about how crime was going to stop. What hogwash. These people are so disconnected from reality. Their monotone voices sound so inhumane. They have no passion, their all going along. These are not true Congressmen. It seems as though we have robots running the show.

I noticed on numerous occassions how a vote went to a Republican, and then when the vote was less than 2/3 unanimous for, it was taken away. Roughly each time that the vote was less than 2/3 majority, this happened. There's something fishy going on, I'm afraid. I see a tyranny so broad scale, and it is so blatantly obvious. They're using September 11 as an excuse to push for the destruction of America. They're insane.

It's time for a march, folks, and I mean soon.

We need to get some action going nationwide to get conservatives to deny the Republicans any of our money. Cut them off. They still need us more than we need them.

We have got to find a way for this act of treason to be heard in the media. We need to let southern and rural dems know that their party voted in nearly lock step to reward illegals, during a time of war. If this gets into the mainstream press, Bush, and many others will pay for it. If it doesn't, they will do it again next year. Americans were attacked because of bad immigration policies on 911, and it will happen again because of this bill.

For several months, I have been stating my belief that the democrats (small 'd' on purpose) will pick up thirty seats in the house (ditto) this November. After this near-treasonous vote, my confidence is building. These g-dless creeps have put power and wealth AHEAD of the lives of our families and friends. (We KNOW who is coming over the Mexican border.) The blood of those killed in the NEXT act of terror in this country will be on the hands of those congressmen and women who supported this measure.

Voting for Dems does no good, They voted in near unison for this. We have to support anti immigration challengers in primaries, it's the only way these traitors will listen.

I suggest setting up a state-by-state task force. Any pubby who voted FOR 1885 (and its senate version) should be automatically actively FReep'd in their respective elections. The rest will have an immigration score card drawn up by FReepers from their respective states who have researched the voting records of their representatives and senators. We should pool our time and money and

Hear Hear..I will do what I can..I am waiting to see how mine voted..my guess is yes as he has sold his soul to the Democrats before..Jack I will work against you!

How can we 'pay them back'?

Call and thank Tom Tancredo for fighting for us and support the opposition candidates to every one of these RINO'S.

I am going to deny them the vote and they are about to have (I am sure a Democrat Congress and Senate) in 2002.

In 2004 there will be a Democrat President as well.

They need a good b!tch slapping to get the message loud and clear.
