Just think of it as "getting to know your fellow Republicans" rather than being stuck in a queue.

Lets get a dead man and an unregistered voter to file with the court to keep the polling places open longer because of trouble voting and long lines.

Hey, worked for the democrats in St. Louis in 2000!

I was forced to do a write in ballot this year. I hate write in ballots. Ok, who out there made sure they had no hanging, dangling, or pregnant chads?

Exactly what is the difference between a R and a D voting booth? Sounds like someone is pulling someone's leg.

Hey CA conservatives! If Rear-dan is really just a Democrat in a Republican t-shirt, be careful that he doesn't use Democrat election dirty tricks as well.... Stay alert!

This was the case where I voted. When I walked in, there were at least 25 booths, and the guy said "Republican, use only one of the first 2 booths with the orange book". I think these booths were also for the "unaffiliated" voters, too... because the first question in the ballot was only for "unaffiliated voters" to select a party preference for Gov. Fortunately, there was no lines.

To make matters worse, they also switches polling places on me. I went to the place I have voted for 14 years, and they told me I was in the wrong place. They were courteous and sent me 200 ft up the street, and when I got there the folks told me that many people who used to vote in my new place were being told to go to the other place. It made no sense and everyone seemed to be upset about the changes.

What kind of oddball system does Los Angeles have? In San Diego they hand you a ballot and you go to whatever booth is open. Why is it necessary to have separate booths in LA? Does this mean they have separate booths for all of the parties like AIP, Libertarian, Green, etc.? That must make for some congested polling places.

I don't understand.

First, I'm from Nebraska, so many people in CA would say I couldn't understand. But that's beside the point.

Every time I have ever voted I'm been given a card, No.2 pencil, and told to "use one of the empty booths". The card is given to me in a plastic sleeve.

In fact, the last time I voted, you didn't even have to use a booth while you filled in the ovals on your card. You could sit at one of the cafateria-style tables. You could even drink a 7-eleven Big Gulp while you voted.

There are no booths marked as republican or democrat. It would have offended me if there had been. It's nobody's business how I vote, and if I can be observed while I go in a D or R booth, my privacy is violated.

Once I enter the booth (and pull the curtain behind me), there is a cheep aluminum shelf. That's all. The aluminum shelf does not appear to have a political bias, but I could be wrong. I never asked the shelf if it was a democrat or republican. If the inanimate shelf had spoken and told me it was a liberal, I might have been worried.

So I remove the voting card from the plastic sleeve, read the card carefully, and vote. I read the card again once I am done voting so I know I didn't vote for Pat Buchanan. I have that much going for me - I'm smarter than a Floridian.

Having finished the task of voting, I slide the card back into the plastic sleeve, and exit the booth. Once again, the booth fails to express a political opinion.

I walk over to a metal strong box, and usually a nice old lady informs me to place the plastic sleeve into a slot of a metal strong box, tilting the sleeve upward, and the paper voting card slides into the box. The box also does not have a D or R.

The only time I remember being prompted for my political affiliation is when I 1)registered to vote and 2)voted in a primary.

So what am I missing here in fly-over country that they understand in Cali?

It would seem that this would effect only the precints or counties that are Democratic leaning, as I doubt that a Republican election official would do this. However, it seems to me that this strategy would hurt Riordan more than Simon.

California Democrat Charles Pineda Jr. is on the ballot as a candidate for Governor of California. Charles Pineda SUPPORTS Traditional Values and The Right To Bear Arms.

For California DEMOCRATS!
We Need an 'exit strategy' for Gov. Gray Davis! - Say NO! to G.G Davis!

Democrats - VOTE **-Charles Pineda Jr.-** for Governor!

Including, a Golden Gate Essay - Democrats need to work for restoration and reform in the Democratic Party. - FR needs to effectively communicate with Democrats. - The Right to Life vs. the 'choice' of death - The Second Amendment and Firearms - The Purpose of Government

There were four completely empty Democratic booths and I had to stand in line for over 15 minutes for the single Republican booth. If I'd had to wait any longer, I would have had to leave without voting.

This is bad? It says to me that the GOP is turning out to vote.

The counties are all different. In my county, you get a ballot and a marker and you go to any open booth and mark your ballot. In punchcard ballots, the booklets are bolted to the table with guide holes. You slide your ballot into the machine and when you flip the pages the guide holes line you up. They must have put many more Dem booths out there because of the imbalance of party affiliation out here.

This is highly illegal, your vote is suppose to be anonymous, totally anonymous, to be forced to stand in one line or the other indicates your party which is a big no no and is unconstitutional.

There are many more Democrats than Republicans in CA, so yes, Democrats have more voting booths. I'm willing to wager plenty of $$$ that there are more Republican voting booths in Shasta County, CA, than 'rat booths.

Poor babies. More Republicans are turning out to vote than democrats and these people are complaining. It's such a drag having to be inconvenienced when excercising your rights.

Don't the powers that be know that we have the right not to be inconvenienced? My GOD! We need a new constitutional amendment to enumerate this God given right!
