Dog Gone is GONE!
Free Republic | 2/26/02 | OwenKellogg

Posted on 02/26/2002 6:06:57 AM PST by OwenKellogg

Last night renowned and respected Freeper, Dog Gone, posted a vanity. It was his first. It was his last. Dog Gone is GONE!

He wanted to convey to all his fellow freepers that he could not take the humiliation and pain suffered by having a thread deleted.

As most wounded dogs, he is now licking his wounds.

We have suffered through countless vanities about cheese, moose, cheating, the Tourist Guy, and Anna Kournikova. And the Admin Moderators chose to make an example of Dog Gone. He has been pushed to the limit.

This is his Opus.

Don't miss mine, I am still working on it and it runs to 423,678 words, naming names, telling secrets, betraying trusts and has 2345 graphics.

It is so bad it will strong men weep and weak women cry and will be printed in 123 languages and out sell the clinton's books.

There's a Bible verse about a dog returning....

Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?

(by Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1999)
(Tune: "Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?", trad.)

Is it acceptable to Opus within what I will call the "final straw thread" (that being the thread that finally sets you off and runs you from FR), or does proper Opus etiquette require a vanity?

Yes, but does your opus expose the Masons, the Knights Templar, and the Illuminati as members of a great right-wing Møøse conspiracy?

Der Elite Møøsenspåånkengruppen OberKømmååndø"

"I've never seen an Opus by Proxy, have you?"

LOL. No I haven't. But I've only been reading FR for about 5 or 6 years. ;^)

...he could not take the humiliation and pain suffered by having a thread deleted.

I know just how he feels.

I once had an embarrassing hangnail and missed work for three weeks. The humiliation was just too much.

It's happened a lot. Unfortunately, they aren't still available. Mostly it happens when someone is banned and can't post. Dog is just not posting.

I believe this calls for some Smokey Robinson lyrics:

I'll Be Doggone

Well I'll bedoggone
If I wouldn't work all day
And I'll be doggone
If I wouldn't bring you my pay
But if I ever caught you running around
Blowing my money all over this town
Then I wouldn't be doggone
I'd be long gone

I'll be doggone
If you ain't a pretty thing
And I'll be doggone If you ain't warm as a breath of spring
And if we live to be a hundred years old
If you ever let that string turn cold
Then I wouldn't be doggone
I'd be long gone

Now did you hear me
Well now what I'd say
Oh believe me
Well every woman should try to be
Whatever her man wants her to be
And I don't want much
All I want from you is for you to be true to me
I'll be doggone
If love ain't a man's best friend
Oh baby
And I'll be doggone
If you ain't the loving end

Though I know you make me feel like nobody could
If I ever found out that you're no good
Then I wouldn't be doggone
I'd be long gone
I wouldn't be doggone
Ganna catche me a train
I wouldn't be doggone
I'm gonna catch me a plane
Gonna get out of here
Gonna leave you baby

Proper Opus Etiquette requires a vanity. You should include the following things, if possible:

  1. Mood music.
  2. A description of what you used to like about the forum.
  3. A description of what you now hate about the forum.
  4. A list of accomplishments you have performed for the forum, if any.
  5. A poignant, tearful goodbye to your friends.
  6. A blistering, hatefilled goodbye to your enemies.
  7. A promise never to return.

For a reasonably good example, try this one. MAKE SURE to start the music. It is an integral part of my Opus.

Anna Kournikova.

Threads with photos of Anna are NOT vanities! They are breaking news, and should be considered essential.

I know just how he feels.

It was obvious to me that Dog Gone had put in at least two minutes in composing that thread, and by my watch it lasted about 180 seconds before it was unceremoniously deleted.

People were enthusiastic about that thread. Many people couldn't wait to register their predictions about how long it would last before it was deleted, while others were delving into the complex thought processes that dogs must have in deciding to cheat on their masters.

It's a shame. A crying shame.

OK, let's try to get Dog back with some of those photos.

Dog is just not posting.

Perhaps Mrs. Dog is just demanding a little attention.
