How come there's no middle ground? He never saw adults around him drinking responsibly?

Out of all the people I've met on campus, I can only name three other students who share this quality. They are all fairly quiet about their decision, but I'm not.

And THAT is what makes him a dislikable, obnoxious, self-rightous jackass twit, not the fact that he chooses not to drink.

For someone who doesn't drink, this guy seems pretty obsessed with alcohol...

I drink alcohol. But I limit my consumption. I only drink on days that end in Y.

The last few times I dared suggest the lives of college students should not revolve around alcohol, I got hammered ... by swarms of vulgar emails and nasty phone messages. It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happens again this time.

I think I'll help him out with that. Wouldn't want to disappoint the smug little brat.

One of the true joys in life is the sharing of a simple meal with wine with friends. The wine must come in a glass bottle with a cork, however; no boxed wine and no screw cap. The wine must be vintage: there must be a date of harvest (only exception is Champagne).

G.K. Chesterton had one of the best words of advice regarding the consumption of alcohol: don't drink alone and don't drink in the hopes that alcohol will make you happy. Drink only with others and when you are already in a pleasant mood.

Finally, drink in moderation accompanied by a meal: 2, at most 3, glasses over the course of a meal lasting 2 hours or so.

Follow these simple rules (add your own!!) and you will share in one of the great pleasures of civilization.

I don't have any stories about drunken shenanigans,
Most of my stories, the funny ones anyway, seem to involve alcohol.
But, then again, I'm a drunk!

I think his next essays will be titled "A Few Reasons Why I left College a Virgin" and "Why Everybody Thinks I'm Dull".

Christ kid, live a little.

Well, I didn't drink in college either. Why? It was against the law, AND I knew I couldn't handle it if I did. I'm 30 years old, and I'm starting to loosen up a bit, but I never, ever want to be a drunken idiot. The rules posted above by Remole are good ones. I'm going to start allowing myself a drink at dinner when out with a friend or a date, but I won't drink alone. It's too depressing, and far too easy to indulge when nobody's around to see me wallowing.

By the way, my first-year college roommate was the foulest, smelliest behemoth with horrible b.o., and a drinking problem. One night he vomited into his pillow and threw it across the room. I slept down in the common area that night, and when my R.A. came back to the dorm I told her about what he had done. She did nothing on my behalf, claiming that smelling alcohol on him was insufficient evidence. I was threatened by him that everyone in the dorm would turn against me if I filed a complaint. I backed down. Some battles aren't worth fighting. But I STILL didn't let them turn me into a drunk. I won that battle. Now I am older and more mature, I think I can try drinking in moderation. I hate beer, though. Don't ask me why, I just don't care for it. I'm visiting Australia in six weeks, where I'm told the beer is much better than in the U.S. Is this true, or just national bias?

My father-in-law and brother-in-law are non-drinkers. Among other things it saves on insurance premiums.

I am in college right now and I do get drunk from time to time. If one can control their drinking I see no reason not to do it. As far someone not drinking that is OK too. Anyway being drunk is only a sad thing if the drunkard is an alcoholic. Some of my best memories involve me being drunk. Well the ones I can remember anyway. Anyway when one is young and in college like I am getting drunk once in a while is good. However by the time one has a job, family and more responsibilities, it is time to put away such adolescent behavior.

I don't have any hilarious or ridiculous stories about things I've done while being drunk. Truth be told, I don't have any stories about drunken shenanigans, period. And I never will. I know this because I am part of the small minority of college students who don't drink alcohol. That's right, I'm one of "those" -- and I'm not afraid to admit it.

Like most college students at liberal institutions, this poor sap's thinking is fried. That's right, his mind is as wasted as if he'd downed a liter of Vodka in 2 minutes. The astute student will realize that it is actually possible to drink alcohol without becoming drunk...but not this pathetic example of Political Correctness run amok.

Lord knows my college life didn't center around alcohol.... between 18 credit course loads and 30-40 hour work weeks, I didn't have time to drink... or much else for that matter...
