They don't hate us because we have more than they have - this is way off - and this guy should have stuck to art and leisure topics.

Yes, the failed European cafe psuedo-intellectuals and the medieval Middle-Eastern cultures hate us because of our wealth and success. They hate our inventiveness and they hate our military dominance. This is because they do NOT represent innocent young cultures capable of wonder and amazement at achievement. No, they represent mature, failed societies that loathe themselves for their lack of intellectual, scientific, military, and monetary progress - almost as much as they hate us for having created our own success in ALL of those areas by ignoring their close-minded views and adapting/adopting our own unique system.

After saving Europeans from themselves in two world wars and protecting them from Soviet invasion...

You mean, after intervening in a European war in which US interests were not at stake, thereby upsetting a stalemate that would in all likelihood have produced a negotiated peace much sooner and sowing the seeds for the next world war, where American support and military action resulted in an Eastern Europe dominated by the Soviet Union, then requiring the US to help some of its allies fend off a former ally...

"Hey, Pandora, having trouble getting that lid open? Here, let Uncle Sam help..."

Anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism go hand in hand, even if my friend doesn't recognize it. It doesn't pay to stand out. Losers envy winners.

Sounds almost Biblical.

Wasn't it repellent that the New York Times was publishing obituaries of the Sept. 11 dead every day but never bothered to run anything about foreign victims of the war we were forcing on Afghanistan? Why did Americans care only about themselves?

Lies, lies, and damn lies, not including the intimidation against the witnesses of American sufferance and truth.

These people are political felons who do more than express, but falsely accuse and intimidate victims and witnesses of victims. These people are evil beyond a doubt, not brainwashed, but whose evil has been illuminated by the tempting and seducing snippings of evil.

America shall stand united around truth. They are united by evil.

The elitist euro idiots are more evil than idiotic, it is just less expressed. In their heart of hearts, they are on Bin Laden's side, and were delighted at the destruction of the WTC. Or would be, if it had made us crawl under a rock and whimper softly, as it would have done with them. They simply agree with Bin Laden's core premise, that our mere existence is insufferable.

And for the same reasons - because of the affront to their egos and pet theories that the success of anyone who does not listen to them involves. And because our power, simply by not being their own, not for anything we do with it, is in the way of their own mad dreams of how essential their precious insights and their leadership are to the future of mankind.

And that is exactly what the powers that would have ruled Europe before thought, too. Russian communism and German militarism, both. Our power was simply in their way, and they ran across us on their way to ruling the world. Some even here wish the Germans had won, and that is all you are hearing from that other fellow in the thread. He is just like the present euro-weenies, and the Ladenists, and the Commies and Prussian militarists before him. If the US would just get out of their way, then they might rule the world according to their mad fantasies, or their favorite theory, region, people, or system might.

And we ought to understand that the justice with which our power in the modern world has generally (though certainly not always) been exercised, is not a mitigation of all of this to the high and mighty of the rest of the world. On the contrary, it is an aggrevation of the affront. Ordinary non-political people might care, not being too concerned with who exercised power, and more concerned with whether it is exercised justly. But the ambitious, the politically active, the theorizers - oh, with them it is another story.

It is much more acceptable to have rivals who are unjust. After all, any fine fellow may be oppressed by the power of others, and thwarted in all his schemes by the sheer strength arrayed against him. But only unjust men are opposed justly. It galls all the more, therefore, if we seem at all just - in their consciences, mind. Of course they will not come out and say so, and instead must try to blacken any such impression. But that is because their own ambition cannot admit that it is itself unjust.

Therefore, some will hate us merely for the fact of our power, and our having achieved it without listening to their patent medicine cures for the human condition. A prosperous nation without communism was an affront. A strong nation without militarism was an affront (and still is, to some). A civilized nation without Islam is an affront. A land of opportunity without soft socialism is an affront.

But a just world power is a redoubled affront, because its mere existence proclaims to all would be rulers of the world that they are not only not needed or wanted, but that their craving for power is positively evil, the desire to substitute partiality and failure for justice, out of nothing but naked self-regard.

We ought to wear the hatred of the power-mad schemers of the world - every one of them - like a halo.

When suicide bombers kill Israelis in buses, in markets and at a religious celebration, Europeans can say, "The Jews had it coming."

They've said it before, haven't they?

Amen, and thank-God George Bush is our President, and not some worthless appeasing Democrat. Ignore the naysayers. They are traitors to the cause of freedom.

Do you know why the europeans do this? Because then can. Because they believe that no matter what they say, we will always come to their aid. They are just so sure that if they get in any kind of trouble, we will be there to bail them out.

They're wrong. They simply don't realize how 9-11 changed our world. We now are looking to see who our friends are and who is not a friend. We will no longer be willing to spill American blood to save those who are not worth saving. We can build a wall around the US and shut out the rest of the world and still prosper, the euroweenies keep it up and that's exactly what we'll do. No more rescues, no more "aid", no more "feeding the world". We've just about had it. With friends like the europeans, who needs enemies.

This letter is on andrewsullivan.com:

UNTRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES:

Is there a connection between Danny Pearl's saga and the unbelievably shrill, visceral, irrational hostility many media outlets displayed in response to pictures of Al Queada detainees at Camp X-Ray in Cuba? Recall that the likes of The Guardian were calling the treatment of Camp X-Ray detainees "inhumane" and "torture." (As if such detainees should not be put in leg chains after the prisoner revolt in Afghanistan in which Johnny Spann was killed and after some of the captured Al Quadea prisoners in Pakistan attacked and killed some of their guards before escaping). Recall that Danny Pearl's kidnappers expressly stated that they would treat Pearl in the same inhumane manner in which the Al Quadea detainees were being kept in Camp X-Ray. Can this be a coincidence? Where did the kidnappers (including who was British-born and schooled) get the idea that the Camp X-Ray was a torture center? I am not suggesting that the likes of the Guardian should have their right to free speech muzzled. I am suggesting that members of the media should understand that that words have consequences and that inaccurately describing the treatment of Camp X-Ray detainees as "torture" could motivate Islamic Fundamentalists to practice real, not imagined, torture against captives - in this case Danny Pearl. My heart goes out to Danny Pearl's loved ones.
