Need Advice on Weapons Purchase

Hello Everyone,

I am currently in the market to purchase a personal handgun, and would like some advice on what would be a good choice. The only requirements I have are that it must be a .40 S&W and be small and concealable. If you have any experience with a weapon that looks like it would meet those requirements, please post and let me know.

For concealed carry purposes I recommend a Glock 27. The downside is if your not familiar with this type of weapon and even if you are you will need to - practice, practice, practice. Keep your eye in the front sight and squeeze the trigger, don't try to pull it. There is a certain amount of muzzleflip that you will get used to with practice. The "Limp Wrist" issue is more often then not the operator not the gun. "To grip it right, grip it tight". This doesn't mean squeze the snot out of it but be firm. For practice I use Excel 180 gr with WST powder. When I'm carrying I use Federal Personal Defense 135 gr Hydra-shok. Check out GlockTalk.com - great site for info and more. Good Luck! Glock 23 which I carry or the baby Glock 27. They are as ugly as they are functional meaning they just DO NOT jam. These old 1911 guys can have those heavy but nice looking pistols. The Glock was designed to do the job and the .40 S&W is far superior to the 9mm and equal in stopping power to the .45ACP with less recole. Takes a little getting used to but with all that free ammo who cares. Again the Glock can be counted on to work and thats what counts in a carry situation.

One of the reason of the 1911's popularity is that people in the US are used to its great feel in the hands. They exist in 40 caliber and the Kimber is the most accurate out of the box. I know that at least for their 45, and I do not know how their 40 stacks up.

I have both a glock 23 and h&k 40 s&w. The glock is more concealable with a Fist holster ( small of the back )But I also like the h&k with Shoulder rig. And thier both ten rds in the clip and one in the tube. Hope this will help.

I said earlier that Glocks just don't work for me. I have large hands and they feel like a chock of wood.

I will admit to the Glock legions that I came of age when 1911s, HK and Sig "spy style" pistols, and Berettas were the rage and that's what I'm used to and prefer for all applicable variety of calibers.

I have had my best luck with my 9mm Beretta 92SB as far as consistency. I absolutely love an HK P7...it feels like a finger point....wish I had one. The smaller Sigs also have that quality.

For up close serious encounters...I prefer a .45...a lightweight Officer's model I had for years suited me fine. Now I'd go for the Kimbers or P/Os.

In all seriousness...in close encounters a revolver is arguably a better choice.

I was skeptical, so I went and read the bill. Did you read the bill before posting the article?

Unfortunately the Pro-Gun people are using the same misinformation tactics the Anti-gun people use, this is the main reason I did not renew my NRA membership.

I would prefer that people just post the facts and let us decide for ourselves, what's good or bad.

I too carry the Glock 23, but I'm looking for a used Glock 27
This soon after Michigan got "shall issue" they are harder to find than frog hair.
The only jam problems I ever had with the Glock was with
some weak hand loads which came with my sons Glock 22.
My son bought it used from a fool that didn't like it because it jammed.
I've put hundreds of factory and full power hand loads though my Glock 23 with no problems,
as has my son with his Glock 22.

I carry a Springfield Ultra-Compact V-10 .45 in all kinds of hot weather in a Galco Royal Guard holster with a wilderness instructors belt under a t-shirt or hawaiian shirt. A spare mag on the other side helps to balance it out. The ammo that's used in Federal Hyda-shoks. I realize that you said .40 but those things have a shape recoil in a small package.

The HK Compact is very well made but I have nostalgia for the old sleek palm fitting HK models which I don't think they make in .40 and if they did would be way pricey...just check out a used P7 to get an idea of what I mean....I absolutely love an HK P7...it feels like a finger point....wish I had one.

I have no wisdom to offer to Marine Inspector, buty ou mentioned the P7 twice now, and I'm still drooling. To my regret, I passed one up in a trade some years ago. I could be wrong, but I think I remember H&K offering a .40 barrel/slide assembly for the P7.
