Way too many vanity threads lately. And way too much trash being posted. Please try to stay on topic (politics). Also, please do a search on a significant word from the title of your article before posting. This will reduce the number of duplicates. And, along these same lines, please use the original titles on your article posts. Do NOT edit the titles. Do NOT use "My Title" titles. This will also help to reduce the number of duplicates.
And, whatever else you do, please DO NOT post from DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND (or any other such trashy un-American socialist hangout). Free Republic was intended to be a socialist free zone. We've gone to a heck of a lot of trouble to make it that way. Why in the world would you think we would be interested in having their trash posted here?
And QUIT trashing each other. You know who you are. Knock it off! Way too many flamewars and feuds going on. And, while I'm thinking about it, QUIT trashing our conservative candidates. If you want to criticize someone's position on some policy, have at it. But do not trash or smear the man. That would include Browne, Buchanan, Bush, Keyes, et al, or whomever else may be your favorite trashee (examples listed in alphabetical sequence). The idea is to get more conservatives elected, not to trash the ones you don't like. If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat.
Thank you.
And QUIT dredging up old communist propaganda to smear our conservatives. Sheesh! Whatever else you may think about our guys, they did not hijack airliners full of people and crash them into buildings. No, my friends, not even the dreaded CIA. Anyone who would believe (or even suspect) that crap is no FReeper. I've been pulling this crap whenever I see it and several people have been banned for continuing to post it. I do not want it on Free Republic. Any current FR poster who believes this leftist propaganda, please logoff immediately, send me your resignation via email, and I will delete your account.
Thanks,
Jim
Drat.
:-(
I do too.
You told me you would say that.
I think that the definition of a well written vanity is one that does not get pulled! By that definition all vanities by the Robinsons, and the Moderators, are exceedingly well written. LOL!
Old Communist.
My 4 year old won't go back to bed. Oh man! Here I am ready to rock.....
I even got a plug in for Radio FR LOL read the thread...............hee hee hee
Some vanities ARE informative and fun. There've been a TON of 'em about cars, music astronomy and Lord knows what topic that haven't been directly related to politics.
Without a sprinkling of vanities we'd lose our personality and that's one of the main things that sets FR apart from other websites. Without allowing some personality to we'd become just another sterile political forum, and that's the reason I highlighted what I did in the text I excerpted from the FR front page.
Conservatives have enough to battle, and enforcing the stereotype of us being puritatinical, frumpy and anything but fun-loving folks doesn't help. I would wager the fun aspect and personality of this forum are two of the main reasons newbies keep coming back.
Tin-foil hats and rightwing-nuts banished!? God forbid! When I engage a leftie in conversation and they call me a rightwing-nut I come back without missing a beat, "Yup, I'm proud to be a rightwing-nut helping to hold the Constitution together as the leftwing loose screws fall out". Or, "I'm a member of the Vast Buffalo Wing Conspiracy" (aside - I can't remember which FReeper came up with that clever slogan but it's a classic). The thing is when I hit 'em back with something like that it might get a laugh...break the ice...and a worthwhile exchange might follow.
Perhaps the problem is like Topsey we've grown too big. Maybe FR should evolve into a FreeRepublic Nation...a disributed forum. Costs and responsibilites could be spread over a series of seperate but related websites. Kind of like peer to peer networking. I'm sure it would be clunky and ineffective at first, but with the correct software and participating sites it may eventually be justified. "Temporary inconvenience - permanent improvement", to borrow a phrase from PennDOT.
Just my 2 cents worth.
