Vanity Post on Vanity Posts, Duplicate Posts, Trash Posts, Commie Propaganda, etc., Vol V, No. 1
Free Republic ^ | 1/25/02 | Jim Robinson

Way too many vanity threads lately. And way too much trash being posted. Please try to stay on topic (politics). Also, please do a search on a significant word from the title of your article before posting. This will reduce the number of duplicates. And, along these same lines, please use the original titles on your article posts. Do NOT edit the titles. Do NOT use "My Title" titles. This will also help to reduce the number of duplicates.

And, whatever else you do, please DO NOT post from DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND (or any other such trashy un-American socialist hangout). Free Republic was intended to be a socialist free zone. We've gone to a heck of a lot of trouble to make it that way. Why in the world would you think we would be interested in having their trash posted here?

And QUIT trashing each other. You know who you are. Knock it off! Way too many flamewars and feuds going on. And, while I'm thinking about it, QUIT trashing our conservative candidates. If you want to criticize someone's position on some policy, have at it. But do not trash or smear the man. That would include Browne, Buchanan, Bush, Keyes, et al, or whomever else may be your favorite trashee (examples listed in alphabetical sequence). The idea is to get more conservatives elected, not to trash the ones you don't like. If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat. Thank you.

And QUIT dredging up old communist propaganda to smear our conservatives. Sheesh! Whatever else you may think about our guys, they did not hijack airliners full of people and crash them into buildings. No, my friends, not even the dreaded CIA. Anyone who would believe (or even suspect) that crap is no FReeper. I've been pulling this crap whenever I see it and several people have been banned for continuing to post it. I do not want it on Free Republic. Any current FR poster who believes this leftist propaganda, please logoff immediately, send me your resignation via email, and I will delete your account.

Thanks,

Jim

I'm really sorry.

But I am a cyber-blonde. Seriously.

Your explanation to me..comes across as gobbledegook!.

Maybe...I should just forget about it.

Well, I for one am tired of seeing the "Bush Is Traitor/Stands for Big Government/Kisses Daschle's B***" threads myself, but I can't see as how they should be "outlawed."

I think we (the LOTR problem) have been doing better lately. Few new threads have been started, and we have instead been able to have just one that acheived a lot of depth because of it's length and the seriousness of the posters. It has an unfortunate title, but hey, we can't always control the source of inspiration. I sure enjoy the topic and would like to avoid pressing our luck past any breaking point.

There was just such a flood of information in December that most of us that were trying to could not read them all, let alone comment on them and many of the posts did not receive many replies... perhaps we could be encouraged to post only one review thread on the next go-around for Two Towers, instead of individual threads for every review that was done.

Of course that assumes that the management would prefer one long thread to a bunch of little ones. I would be happy to relay the advice of the management to the others in the Tolkien circles.

Of course it would probably be a good idea to contact ecurbh, the LOTR pingmaster. Since there will be a fair amount of comment about the FOTR DVD later this year, it might be a good idea if the Lord of FR, or you moderators in his Fellowship, would give us faithful Tolkien fans our marching orders by that time.

Nice homepage, Happygal, that hurling sport looks a lot like lacrosse, a sport invented by the Iroquois indians, and played at a lot of northeastern US colleges. (It was featured in the movie Love Story, if you saw it.)

As much as I might like ye Lucius...hurling ain't like no prissy Lacross! *LOL*..My men (amateurs all)...go out there with their limbs and the rest of their bodies endangered (and that's no joke!!) (half of them are crippled after spending their lives at the sport). But they do it ``why''??. For the passion and pride of representing their people.

Ye know what kills me?

Being born female. Because if I was a man born in my town...NOTHING...but NOTHING..be it learning skill, or sheer determination would keep me off the County team. There's NO honour greater.
NONE.

I think you're one of the first people I've ever read who can post with an Irish accent! I love it, I was raised by my Irish American grandmother and married an American colleen (is it PC to use that word, by the way?) One thing about lacrosse is they have women's squads here. I would guess that is as close (?) as you could come to hurling.

Is there some way to prevent repeat offenders from continuing to return indefinitely using new names?
Most of these offenders repeat the same stuff over and over from dubious sources and never address the issues, but concentrate on the same lame "racist", "nazi" "bigot" technique of discussion.
If they posted under "My opinion - question" it wuld be easier to ignore.

I asked you a question in post 16?

Now there's a technique I never fall for.
On some threads this passes for dialog.
It is a transparent technique to derail detailed discussion of the thread topic.

I call it the Bernie Ward School of dissimulation...
The Muslim apologists are particularly fond of this technique.

Were you aware that it is a very useful technique to say, "I hate this stuff, what's your opinion?" and then go ahead and post reams of the most vile garbage from loser sites under the guise of "information"?
How does one deal with that?

So this is the thanks I get for taking on the new reponsibility of being your mentor.

Yes, but that is the fate of trailblazers.... And, like Mark Twain said, "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education."

Oh, except I am sick and tired of the religion bashing. Any way we can make that a capital offense?

Amen.
Ditto massive "cut and paste" bible quotes...

No, I hadn't thought of that tactic. Again, I'm not arguing with the policies of FreeRepublic, I just want to make sure I know what they are. And threads like this help me do that.

*L*...I tend to type as I speak on here! *L* (Hence the posts with an accent! *L*)

Nope there is a girls version of hurling called camogie. I used play it as a kid but me mother wouldn't let me play after a certain age because of the fear a belt in the mouth with a hurl would do serious dental damage, that we couldn't afford to have repaired! (Funny though, she let me take up hockey after that! Didn't make much sense, I got knocked out once playing that! *L*)

I'm here (been gone for a couple days).

As much as I love discussing LOTR with other Freepers, I realize the need to follow any guidelines handed down by the powers that be. I do think I went overboard on the posting of reviews last month, and aplogize for that. My 3-year excitement at watching the movies being made got the better of my common sense.

I am humbly at your service, and would be glad to pass any information along to my fellow ring-pingers.
