Sultaana Freeman, a 34-year-old Muslim woman, is suing the state of Florida "for suspending her driver's license after she refused to remove her face-covering veil for the photograph," the Associated Press reports. The Council on American Islamic Relations is touting the case of another Muslim Florida woman, Najad Tamim-Muhammad, who doesn't want her face on her license. "To take it off would be the equivalent of some other woman being forced to remove her blouse," says CAIR boss Ibrahim Hooper. These two women are no doubt sincere, but their demand--that they be issued what amounts to an ID card that doesn't allow for their identification--is ludicrous. It amounts to special treatment for Muslims, in a way that could easily jeopardize national security. As we saw Sunday in Jerusalem, Islamic fanatics are not above enlisting women as suicide attackers. If CAIR has its way, it will be that much easier for prospective terrorists to get fraudulent IDs.

TOPICS: Activism/Chapters; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS:
1. We should have National ID card where everyone wears a face covering only. (Well, maybe with bra and panty for women and underwear for men)

2. We should send this women who want to have driver licenses but don't want to take off the face covering to the country of origin to get their driver licenses.

3. We should all become honorary member of CAIR and send CAIR our identification photo with face covering. Make sure write on the application form: DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ASK FOR DONATIONS.

Is this for an id or a driver's license?
When driving will they wear the veil?
A long while back the Catholic nuns modified their head coverings so that they wouldn't interfere with their ability to drive.
If this is for a driver's license then clarity fo vision is also a requirement so they would remove the face covering on that occasion and accordingly should do also for the license?
If this is to obtain an id then the question arises as to what information is contained on the id that will assist a person to connect the id card to the person carrying it.

Three years ago when I got my driver's license renewed, for the picture I was asked to remove the baseball-type cap I was wearing.

Wow, I was profiled and infringed upon and didn't even realize it. I need to get me an ACLU lawyer and sue the state, but alas, I'm not Muslim...I'm on a male WASP....sigh!

How would we even know that this individual is a woman or even a human for that matter? Anything from a jackass to a polar bear could hide under those Muslim tents that those alleged to be women wear. Hell an entire terrorist cell could hide under there. If they are too shy to bear the cheeks of their faces, then we must insist that they bear the other cheeks for their drivers licenses photos. On the other hand though, why should we allow Muslim women to drive here? They can't at home, and they won't allow our women to drive there either?

If they are too d@mn ugly to bare their faces for a drivers license photo, they are ugly enough to distract other drivers on the highways of this country.

I think we should support this woman. Photo drivers licenses were forced on the States by the Feds. I don't see any real need for them. We don't need State of Federal ID, and we should fight it however we can.

It makes no sense for this woman's picture to be on the ID because the traffic cop will not be unveiling her to ID her. I think we all have a right to wear masks! (not kidding)

A DC station interviewed a CAIR representative today from the local chapter. He was hardly sympathetic conserning this women!!!

1.Stated face covering is dicated by culture, NOT the Koran.
2.Every Moslem culture allows for full face photos for ID purposes.

ACLU is gonna look more stupid than usual on this one.

Would the Lone Ranger have to remove his mask? Or Zorro?

If I am a bank robber, can I wear a bandana across the lower half of my face?

CAIR said this???

1.Stated face covering is dicated by culture, NOT the Koran.
2.Every Moslem culture allows for full face photos for ID purposes.

The Moslem woman that I know best only wears a headscarf (and said her driver's license pix was without headscarf)--and the suicide bomber in Jerusalem not only didn't wear a headscarf, but dressed in a very Western style, no traditional clothing whatsoever.

Looks like the ACLU has a real loser on their hands. It's too bad they can't be made to pay the cost to the state of Florida when they are broomed out of court.

I also heard the interview on the Washington station. I was amazed - the first rational statements I've heard from CAIR. The usually air-headed host was unusually rational as well.

If I'd heard this coming from CAIR while I was driving, I'd probably end up on the shoulder of the road hitting all those slowdown strips.

So this woman sues, it gets into court, Florida calls CAIR and a few other expert witnesses to testify that it's a matter of custom, not religion and poof! Away goes the lawsuit. And she walks away scotfree, without having to pay a dime. I'd recommend that Florida ask that the ACLU be sanctioned for bringing a frivilous lawsuit.

We should have a national ID, complete with fingerprints, for non-citizens.

That's Good! No Face,No Drivers License. If not,She shouldn't be driving then. She can always use the bus or go home and not have the "Privilege" to drive in the U.S.A.She could also ask her 'Loving husband' drive her around.Perhaps, after she loses this case, she'll just leave the country and we'll have 1 less follower of Islam, thinking about possibly KILLING AMERICAN CITIZENS on American Soil!
