All Air Force personnell currently undergo SERE training if they are to be part of a flight crew. It is usually done before posting to their first base and as part of their initial training once MOS school is over. Because of the current heavy use of the Air Force to soften up enemy positions before attack by our ground troops and to gather data, the flight crews are at increased risk of being shot down and captured while over enemy territory. Captured crews have had an excellent reputation for dealing with the experience and coming through it a whole person. This is due primarily to the excellent and very realistic SERE training they receive. I have a son on an AWACS crew.
