A tax means they take the money from you whether you want to or not.
An appeal to volunteer is an appeal to your conscience. It assumes that you are free to volunteer or not, and appeals to you to think about your neighbors and your country, then get off your rear end of your own free will and do something to help.

It's still a quiet FR corner, but we are doing what we do best. Intellectual conversation, fashion advice, and service to our country.

Speaking of Global Crossing... Have you seen Terry McCauliff on all the news shows trying to spin his way out of this? It's all Capitolism. Ha ha ha ha!!!!Oh....... he looked bad !!!!! Did you notice him blinking a lot? He was really uncomfortable. I can't remember who was interviewing him on FNC. Cavuto, Gibson ?????? Did you see it on Fox?
To: Mad Dawgg
Oh brother. What kind of idiot calls tax cuts "something that screws us over"?

Isn't this a lovely picture of our First Lady?
I loved it when he intro'd her and she said under her breath "Now you didn't have to do that" or something to that effect.

I was all over the dial -- When MSNBC had McCaniac on, I switched over to CNN, hearing Bill Schneider say "He is a President of character" then back to hear Panetta say "although he rose to the occasion on foreign issues, can he bring some sense of unity on domestic issues?" With Juan Williams saying "his speech surpassed expections" and the comment from Bill Schneider it's obvious the talking points were held up by a messenger out on coffee break.

my memory failed me until this post appeared...I saw Lynne with the scowl on her face and was puzzled as to who this person was, the scowl was so obvious that I was taken aback by it and did a disconnect, your question caused me to have an "aha" and it then became clear to me that the person looking glum was Lynne

She is wearing a poopbrown pantsuit and a pearl necklace. I am going to go check my jewelry case and see if mine is missing. ROFLMAO!!! Thanks for the coffee up the nose!
What a GREAT speech! Who was the dumba@@ that started the rumour that President Bush is not a good speaker????? Every time he speaks, he's a little bit better, and he started out great!

camera focused on an Air Force Lt. Col (female) in the gallery, she appeared somewhat uncomfortable (figeted) as the camera focused in on her, my thought was... "who is this ?" never found out, perhaps this was the subject person in question ? That's got to be her. LTC Martha McSally, I think.
Now I'm extremely curious as to why she was invited. You wouldn't think filing a lawsuit against your employer (the US military) would exactly be grounds for getting a VIP pass to the State of the Union address. I'm guessing it's W taking a very subtle swipe at the House of Saud--something like "OK, guys, you are not going to make our women run around like second-class citizens while they're over there protecting you from Crazy Saddam, capiche?" That's the only reason I can think of that she'd be there, unless she was just being shown off as the oft-mentioned "highest-ranking female pilot in the Air Force."

Yep, the Dems are desperate. Anytime a Dem leader calls for taxcuts, as Gephardt did this evening, they are truly desperate. Of course, Gephardt made up for it later by playing the "old people must choose between buying food and medicine" propaganda.

Took a few seconds, but I did.
Did anyone see the look Hillary sent Mrs. Bush when Dubya introduced her? I couldn't help tinking "Yeah..and she's a better first lady than you ever could have been!"

Ok, fine. I tried to politely point out that your cutesy, overused terminology was offensive. There are a lot of people here from Florida, and I'm sure there are others who find it offensive as well. I'm tired of Florida being the butt of jokes when the reality is that no state could stand up to the scrutiny Florida had placed on its election system without some flaws being exposed. In fact, Florida ranks above average in its election system. Jim Robinson recently issued a call for civility, and I think this falls in that category. You are free to, and obviously do, disagree.
