Lightning isn't supposed to strike twice in the same place, but tell that to Mark Sokolow. Mr. Sokolow survived the attack on the World Trade Center in September, barely escaping from his 38th floor office when the second plane hit and the building collapsed. Then on Sunday, Sokolow and his family were shopping in Jerusalem, where they had gone to visit a daughter studying there, when a suicide bomber, a Palestinian female, detonated a device that killed her and one other, and injured scores, including Sokolow, his wife and two remaining daughters.
Americans are not used to this type of vicious attack, despite the September 11 experience, but Israelis are all too familiar with it. In the last two weeks alone, there have been four attacks in the heart of Jerusalem, one only days earlier on the very block struck Sunday. Merchants had just replaced the broken windows when they were shattered once again in the latest attack.

Your position is, IHMO amoral and unprincipled and overly materialistic. It's far too late to take your view. We share a large burden for this mess over the years. We saved Arafat's hide several times, and ressurected him from his ostracism after the Gulf War. We prevented Israel from vanquishing her enemies several times. How could we as a nation work hard to prevent Israel from finishing off her enemies, and then back off and allow her enemies to destroy her? That is evil.

The money we give to Israel yearly is the best bargain the USA govt gets anywhere in its budget.

When Israel "finally" does the inevitable, I hope it's with a 500 pounder or greater. The last thing we need is a body for the Palestinians to worship.
And that will be fitting. The man who has singlehandedly been the worst thing to ever happen to the Palestinians doesn't deserve to be planted in a respectable manner.
I am convinced that the Israelis care more about the average Palestinian that Arafat does. They have been very careful to try not to hit innocents with their retaliations. Arafat on the otherhand has trashed a descent economy which has resulted in much pain for his people. And this in the face of an offer that would have seen the Palestinians with their own state, recognized by Israel and the rest of the world.
The Palestinians would have a thriving economy rivaling that of Israel if it weren't for one man.

But it is the WORST bargain for Israel. In 1967 the Jews were on their way to Amman, Damascus, and Cairo. They could have left them with a permanent reminder and an ultimatum peace treaty or death. The US stopped them. In the Yom Kippur war, a huge portion of the Egyptian Army was surrounded. Israel could have hammered out a real peace agreement, Kissinger stopped them. Throughout this period of Arab rioting and barbaric terror the US has restrained Israel with the phoney 'cycle of violence' argument. Israel should have never accepted a penny from the US government and did its primary duty to its citizenry, PROTECT THEM. It wasn't until the US tasted the Islamic fruit that Israel was given a bit more leeway. Powell wwould still be putting the muzzle on Israel if not for 911.
The socialists in Israel would have had their backs up against the wall to create a viable economy. The US capital bailed out their failed policies. America can afford to have a socialist Dem. party to a certain extent, Israel can't.
The aid also gave another convenient excuse to the Jew haters. Not that they needed an excuse, but why help them along? Jews have managed to survive for over 3,000 years without government subsidies.
