Small world, I work out on the floor in system test/integration.

I am answering the question about why the initial report showed after 10. It is because the report was from Colorado.

Pre-shocks don't act like this.Glad to hear it, I may be moving to the Valley, to work in Woodland Hills, in February.

Did anyone remember that this is the anniversary for the Colinga quake in 83 or 84. Wow, six in about an hour that is a lot.
Nothing in Fresno. We felt the Northridge quake series all the way up here. It rippled up the backbone of the Sierras. It shook here so hard that it woke us up.

FYI - Simi Police Dept. has received very few calls. Quite a contrast with the Northridge quake, when them old Simi Valley Police Station was knocked out of commission and red-tagged. My wife was on the city council at the time, and we rushed down to the police station emergency center after the quake. We had to help manually pry open the gate so that police cars could get in and out.

I always thought that you wouldn't know if it was a preshock until a few days passed and nothing bigger happened :) Each passing day the percentage of chance lessens. If I were to dig through my piles of articles I could come up with the numbers. Time to scan that mess onto cd.

can you tell me how far it would be from Moorpark, CA? Thank you.

This isn't a lot for an aftershock series. Aftershocks occur at a more or less constant rate, but the intensity drops off rapidly. It seems like a lot of shocks, but that's because the intensity hasn't dropped down yet. As they get less intense, the big ones are farther and farther apart. This makes it seem as though there are less shocks, but the little ones are still going off at the same rate.

We just had a 1.9 at 10:45. And yes, we felt it. They sure at a lot more fun when you are at the epicenter!
I had a friend once run out in the street in a towel after an earthquake thinking it was a major event. It turned out to be a 2.3, but his house was the epicenter and the quake was shallow.

I estimated around 4 here near Ventura, based on the Northridge aftershocks, and was about right. It rattled things but was absolutely no big deal. I think the worst part may be wondering if a really BIG One may be coming.

What is the attenuation rate for the P-wave (I can't think of a better way to word it)? I mean, I felt the P for Landers, a hundred miles or so away. Gave me plenty of warning, too.
To: Floratina
The only pre-shock type quake I know of around here was Big Bear-Landers. Big Bear was first and Landers struck a few hours later. But those were both 7+.

No, it is just Satan under the ground moving around getting ready for his buddy Bill Clinton's arrival in Cali later this week. Thats all.
To: ZGuy
Better safe than sorry... If you think it's a big one you should run outside even if your neighbors might laugh at you and ridicule you for being a drama queen.

Been eating allot of pizza, maybe? ;)

Moorpark is about 5 miles or so west of Simi.

can you tell me how far it would be from Moorpark, CA? Moorpark is about 10 miles west of where I am in Simi Valley. I'm sure they felt it there, although not as strongly.

missed that one. Worked and lived in Camarillo, but was at a workshop in Sacramento. Missed Whittier Narrows for the same reason. Good travel schedule.
