10 Illegal Aliens arrested at San Diego nuclear submarine base
Roger Hedgecock Show (San Diego) ^ | January 28, 2002

Posted on 01/28/2002 2:05:28 PM PST by John Jorsett

KOGO AM 600 talk show host Roger Hedgecock has just broken the story that the INS has arrested ten illegal aliens (he gave the nationalities, but I can't recall any other than Honduras) at the Point Loma nuclear submarine base in San Diego. The aliens were employed by a contractor and were engaged in the sandblasting and painting of a nuclear submarine! 5 of the aliens had obtained base clearances, and 5 had not. Some aliens fled at the approach of the INS, causing the lockdown of the base. 2 were later apprehended when their hiding place was located. When the INS refused to comment, the KOGO news staff requested the name of the FBI agent in charge of Homeland Security for the San Diego area. They were told that there was none.

And do NOT make US citizens pay the price for terrorism. If they want to ID somebody, make people who are not citizens have ID. If they are caught without it, deport them. Plain common sense.

May I kindly raise a plain common sense objection?

If the non-citizen isn't carrying the ID, and merely says "I am a citizen," doesn't that kind of negate the idea of having any ID to begin with?

American citizens already have a wallet full of ID which is cross referenced on us evey time we turn around by people who have absolutely no business knowing anything about us. An illegal alien is not going to have those kinds of ID. Any American citizen could easily prove it if need be. The idea of a national ID card is nothing more than a sinister plan to monitor, control and invade every element of our lives. It will do nothing to deter illegals. So I'll say it again; put the burden of proof on the illegals...not on citizens.

I've been on a couple of AF bases in the last couple of years, and TO GET ON THE BASE, they only checked the driver of the vehicle.

Procedures at a USAF base I retired from and go onto a regular basis, to the Commissary, Clinic, Library, etc, are EVERYONE in the vehicle is checked. Most of the contractors, deliverly, etc is pulled over and their vehicle is searched. I.D's required.

Thanks for the links. Pooh solution sounds like the same one proposed by the people that created this mess to begin with.

We could email ZD, but to what avail. The email screener would either speak Ebonics or read the Koran. Either way, they would delete it before it saw the light of day. Let's just pile on Poohbah, it is good flaming for the soul.....

What a wonderful sight to see a beutiful "Boomer" !!

I should note for the record that the Ballast Point facility on Point Loma, which is where these guys were found, is home to nuclear attack subs, and not boomers.

"As for physically tracking its bearer, it could only do that either (a) when presented for access to government facilities or (b) when presented for travel. At that scale, it's more of a tracking datum than anything else."

I've read recently about implanted and external micro-chips for ill patients and house arrest convicts which tracks by GPS. Technology is also on the verge of micro-processors that fit on the head of a pin. It appears the ability to locate a smart card via GPS is just around the corner. This is where I draw my line in the sand...I will never carry such an abomination.

Agree wholeheartly about the illegal alien situation.

Origins of aliens: 8 Mexico 1 Phillipines, 1 Honduras.

Perhaps there would have been more outrage -- and more interest by the FBI and CIA -- if the aliens were from China, North Korea, Iraq, Pakistan, Russia, or other countries developing nuclear weapons (or with submarines) and trying to spy on us. (Or, at least, more adversarial countries.)

Question: are you willing to carry some form of identification that establishes your citizenship at all times? I don't mean a driver's license, I'm talking some heavy-duty smart-card technology, coupled with a national database of all identified persons.

If the answer is "no," then you're not serious about solving the illegal alien issue.

You're kidding, right? I mean, we've got millions of known illegals, and your "solution" is to tag the rest of us?

That's like straining at a gnat, and swallowing a camel -- except that you swallow the gnat too!

Get back with us vis-a-vis your "papers, please" brand of fix after we've prosecuted and/or deported the millions of known illegals.

Have you no sense of proportion whatsoever?

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Further Info:

Congressman Duncan Hunter has just appeared on the Hedgecock show (his district is in the San Diego area) and announced that he's coming to San Diego and will be meeting with officials at 5:30 pm Pacific tomorrow to get answers. He will be asking if there are security procedures in place and the illegals somehow got through, or if there's simply no procedures in effect at all.

The Navy has called back to the KOGO people and said that the illegals were working on a drydock 'near' a submarine, but not 'on' the submarine. They were employed by a company named Coastal Coatings.

Nonsense. We don't have to accept totalitarianism to stop illegal aliens. That is a false and UNNECESSARY choice.

"Prove to my satisfaction RIGHT NOW that you are a citizen."

Or what? Gonna run her in, Officer Grumbley?

We certainly are the demanding one today, aren't we, Mr. Pooh.

Noncitizens are already supposed to carry their passports and travel documents at all times. (Permanent residents only have to carry their green cards.) Violators may be fined or detained. Other countries require the same for their tourists.
I agree with your objection that the policy is stupid because anyone can claim to be a US citizen without proof, and illegal aliens of course will not carry documents to prove that they are here illegally.

But I don't think citizens should have to carry ID to prove citizenship on an everyday basis. Maybe there should just be some better procedure for employers to verify the citizenship of potential employees they plan to hire.
