No matter what the circumstances of his death (suicide note, angle of trajectory, obvious motive) there are sure to be those who will claim foul play. The chances are 99.99999% that this was a suicide. Investigation won't eliminate that .00001% chance that it wasn't, so let's go with that slim chance, and build a theory on it!!

Interesting that a man does himself in with a gun and the media referes to him as a "straight shooter".

Houstonians Debate: Was Baxter 'Vince Fostered'?

Yes.
Clinton was into Enron from start to finish. Kick-backs galore. He had to be silenced.
He had already shown his desire to tell the truth, something the Clintons have always hated.
He should be burried next to Rob Brown and Vince Foster. Heck, why not start a Clintron death cemetary? Look at all the dead people who were associated with the Clinton fallen legacy.
The Satanic Bible says : "If someone gets in your way, walk around them. If they get in your way again, kill them."
The Clintons do read their Bible.

"I would say it's about 60/40 that people down here think he may have been Vince Fostered," said KPRC radio host Chris Baker Saturday morning.

aka Arkancide.

My daughter lives in Sugar Land. She say's the people she talks to, are of the opinion he did NOT commit suicide. These are her co-workers that live in Houston.

I just heard on the news that he was found with a .38 in his hand. Is that typical, that when you commit suicide that the gun will remain in your hand?

I heard (I think on Fox) this morning that while Baxter resigned from Enron, he continued to receive money from the company as a paid consultant.

This, IMHO, moves Baxter a little bit away from the "whistle blowing, good guy" image.

Maybe HE had something to hide?

This just shows that we need federal legislation against shooting guns in Mercedes.... As to whether or not it was a suicide or murder I'd say if the gun and the car both belonged to him and the suicide note was in his handwriting in his home then it was definately murder ,because all it would take is for armed government agents or enron hit men to sneek into his well protected (I am sure) home... force him to write a credible note, find a gun he has around the place , force him to hop into the car (all this without his wife, child or servants seeing it)drive undetected to the correct place and simply force him to pull the trigger. These murders are daily occurances as we all know.

I'm just glad to hear that "Vince Foster" is becoming a part of the common vernacular in verb form, just as "Lewinsky" has itself taken on a whole new meaning.

Maybe Baxter got a "Lewinsky" before he was "Fosterized"?

Who would have been more depressed -- the witness who was clean or the coworkers who feared what the witness would say.

His former colleagues had more of a reason to want to commit suicide or see to it that he was suicided.

I won't believe it was suicide until an thorough handwriting analysis is done on the "suicide note" that verifies it was in Baxter's handwriting.

The stakes here are exceedingly high. We're talking billions and there's plenty of people, including the Clintons, who have lots to hide.

If it walks like a Clinton, if it talks like a Clinton, and it smells like a Clinton, Then guess what Enron was a Clinton thing from beginning to end. Alamo-Girl should start adding the Enron Suicides to the Clinton list. Demoncrats ONLY care about money. Ethics and morals be damned.

Baxter was not "Vince Fostered".

He just couldn't stand the scrutiny, shame and embarrassment.

A former Vice Chairman that had fallen a long, long ways. He was obviously weak psychologically.

There are two thoughts I've had since hearing of Baxter's death:

1. Did he own the pistol he was shot with? How many executives own .38s?

2. Did he keep notes? If he was a "good guy" who opposed much of what Enron did, he may have kept records for CYA purposes.

I heard on the news last night (Channel 2 10 pm) that the authorities noticed that while there was an exit wound from the body, no evidence of an bullet exiting the car or lodged in the car. This could explain why they decided to look into the matter further.

Here is an article from 18 October, 2000. I suspect Mr. Baxter had never failed at anything in his life. With the revenues spouted in the article below, I have visions of Ken Lay (like Dr. Evil in Austin Powers, pinkie between teeth, saying "One trillion dollars"). When did they know their accounting made no sense?

Enron Promotes Cliff Baxter to Vice Chairman. Issue: Oct 18, 2000

HOUSTON, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ --

Enron Corp. (NYSE: ENE) announced today that J. Clifford Baxter has been promoted to vice chairman of the company.

"Cliff is a key member of the team that has built Enron's highly successful wholesale business," said Kenneth Lay, Enron chairman and CEO. "His promotion will facilitate an even greater focus on extending that business model and continuing to increase Enron's return on invested capital."

Baxter, a native of Amityville, N.Y., received a bachelor's degree with honors from New York University and an MBA from Columbia University, where he was valedictorian. He joined Enron in 1991 and was chairman and CEO of Enron North America prior to being named chief strategy officer for Enron Corp. in June 2000.

Enron is one of the world's leading electricity, natural gas and communications companies. The company, with revenues of $40 billion in 1999 and $60 billion for the first nine months of 2000, produces electricity and natural gas, develops, constructs and operates energy facilities worldwide, delivers physical commodities and financial and risk management services to customers around the world, and is developing an intelligent network platform to facilitate online business. Fortune magazine has named Enron "America's Most Innovative Company" for five consecutive years, the top company for "Quality of Management" and the second best company for "Employee Talent." To: MeeknMing, HoustonCurmudgeon,
Suspicions intensified when police rushed Baxter's body from his late model Mercedes where it was found in a Houston suburb to a local funeral home without further examination, the Texas radio talker noted.

Is it normal policy to not do an autopsy when the death does not occur at a hospital or when the decedent is under a doctor's care?
