So you are the defining authority now?

No, I'm just pointing out that the classical definition of Conservative doesn't fit Buchana (Fascist) or "that Liberarian guy" (Nihilist).

Conservatives are defined by what they are FOR, not what they are AGAINST, which is the only thing these two have to spout off about.

IOW, don't tell me that certain people are "sacrosanct" and immune from criticism, especially when it is clear from their own stances, that they are far, far out on the fringe.

Buchanan and that other guy are part of what's WRONG, not the solution.

"I can't recall seeing it spelled any other way, so I'm not sure how else to spell it!"

Has it occurred to you that perhaps the first FReeper to post that spelling just found it easier to spell? Hehehe....and then perhaps others followed suit for the same reason and the name stuck just because it worked with his "anal" personality? All attempts at humor aside I believe the correct spelling would be Daschle.

Did you read what Jim wrote ? Have you not seen the tinfoil hat threads, that make referrences to things taken out of context and / or talked about how the CIA, FBI, and yes, President Bush is responsible for 9/11/01 ? That is what Jim and I are talking about, in regards to the tinfoil hat brigade , and NOT your inappropriate rant.It is also, I suspect, what Jim was talking about, when he said to stay on topic, on threads. You haven't done that here, and neither have some others.

Learn to play by the rules, stop seeing things which are not written in other's replies, and you'll be okay.Your agenda, is NOT the most important thing here.:-)

You just cannot give it up, can you? The need to purify by insult and slander overrides the common sense of this post.

Try to see how silly you sound calling Buchanan a fascist. He was on TV for years. A very large percentage of the frequenters of this venue have heard him defend conservative principles on numerous occasions. They have never heard him endorse Mussolini, nor the Corporate State. You do not hurt Buchanan by this, you actually hurt yourself. But you start a firestorm, which dissipates Conservative energy in a silly playground level argument.

As for Harry Browne, he is not a nihilist. He is simply a shade more strident in his Libertarianism than some of the Founding Fathers. Why do you need to pillory him? Why can't you simply state--in an appropriate thread--where you and he differ, and give your reasons? We all gain from the legitimate debate. We all lose from the carping argument by insult. It stultifies. It angers. It leads to that playground level argument that makes us all look trivial, foolish and intellectually absurd.

" But how many people will take the time to search for a thread about how to, or reminding to, search? See the irony here?"

That's kind of unfair. It took me quite awhile to ferret out a lot of this information for myself. I have had several new FReepers and potential FReepers express concern and/or intimidation over the forum and not having a clear idea of how to navigate it. As a result of these experiences I have made it kinda my own personal mission to send new FReepers and potential FReepers a brief list of informative links to help them to avoid the pitfalls and inevitable flames that come to so many newbies who inadvertently commit some posting sin. I'm sure there are others who do likewise, and if not it is something active FReepers would do well to do as a means to enhance the experience on Free Republic for all of us, old, new and in between.

I'll add my two cents to the several above who are tired of the "What's Your Favorite..." or "Worst..." whatever.

Each time I see one I view the poster as an obsequious, double digit IQ, goody-goody Miss American contenstant.

My favorite color is triangle.

Jim isn't a hall monitor. He has asked you not to post garbage on the forum. That isn't good enough for you?

It's extrememly RUDE to dismiss his request. Shame on you. You might want to leave if you find his requests "burdensome."

Everyone starts somewhere. But even the veterans (or folks that have been here longer than I) still do not check (or maybe they do and just don't care, in which case a duplicate post is nothing more than a vanity post) and post the same things that have already been posted. I guess when I read a posted thread, I like to see all the comments pertaining to it in one place, not on 4 threads on the same subject with same titles, etc.

Good. But there is still more than one thread alive on the same thing.

I agree with you, I was just pointing out that people don't automatically "know" how to use the search feature or how to avoid other kinds of errors. . And I know I have had a problem on a couple of occasions when I have done a search using the exact article title and gotten a return message "No Posts Found" only to get flamed for a duplicate post. It can happen. I'm sure there are those who don't bother and maybe even some who are dense enough not to realize it's a problem. Maybe some don't care. I think that is unlikely regarding most posters here though. I would hope so anyway.

I agree. It took me a long time to figure it out, but it wasn't the website design (not saying you or I said it was) but it was I was a new user to navigating when I began reading FR. Nice of you to assist others. They have this site layed out pretty nicely with the important info for survival on the front page.
