Three Britons among the suspected al-Qaeda fighters held by US military authorities at a naval base in Cuba are well and have "no complaints" about their treatment, according to a spokesman for Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Quoting a report by British officials who visited the men at the Guantanamo Bay base in Cuba, the spokesman said there was "no sign of any mistreatment."
"The British had no complaints about their treatment," the spokesman said Monday. "They are in good physical health."
"There were no gags, no goggles, no shackles while the detainees are in their cells. They only wear shackles when they are outside," he added.
He said the men had been able to speak "freely and without inhibition," and had asked for messages to be passed to their families, which British officials were now doing.
The detained Britons have also had contact with the Red Cross.
They are getting what they deserve...3 meals a day, time to worship "Allah" who they killed for, and medical treatment.
What do you want to give them? MOVIES? POPCORN?
This is the whole problem with our mentality.."those poor things..." as for getting messages to their families, they'd probably kill THEM if UBL gave the order.
You mean like Saudi and Yemeni and Australian and Pakastani muslims who were fighting for their "homeland"?
My sentiments exactly, blam.
Uh huh...what makes you think the "Afghan" prisoners are't ALLOWED to send messages to their families? Als, I'm sure you're aware that most if not all of the non-British, non-Australian, non-American prisoners the US has are Arab nationals, not Afghans.
They are clean. They are now louse-free for perhaps the first time in their lives. They are getting dental care for perhaps the first time in their lives. They are getting medical treatment for wonderful things like tuberculosis and cateracts.
Get over it. This is not a British political issue. This is an American national security issue.
Right on!!...wait..isn't "libral thought" an oxymoron?
I heard one representative of what constitutes "liberal thought" call in to a TV show this morning. He said all the prisoners should be allowed to go home. He cited two authors that I've never heard of. One of the authors he cited wrote whatever it was back in the 19th century.
The part that says it all: caller identified himself as "Bill" who is "33...Pythagorean Master Number". His own words.
I've been laughing about that off and on all morning. The rest of my week will be an anti-climax.
Let NYFD firefighters come down to Gitmo for "vacation" as their jailors and interrogators!
Remember Clinton's war in Kosovo, and the images of Albanians being "herded" into cattle cars? The media knew that the Serbs were transporting them to the border (to save them from having to walk over mountains) and yet the media used that imagery to suggest that, since Nazis transported Jews in cattle cars, that Serbs = Nazis.
Regardless of one's opinion ultimately of that conflict, this was clear manipulation by the media -- manipulation by (flawed) visual analogy.
And we can expect the same now in Cuba.
Like an alcoholic that has given up booze, the Europeans are reacting to the gross excesses in their past history. Since Europe was not responsible enough to use punishment, they feel that a punishment Prohibition should be instituted around the Globe.
Looks like a jail cell to me. Are we supposed to put thiese guys in hotel suites? I would imagine that the inmates at Rikers Island in NYC would trade places in return for safety from other inmates, warm ocean breeze, and an ocean view.
I might add they are sleeping on the same mattresses our servicemen and women are sleeping on. Same blankets and they don't have lice or any other bugs anymore. Getting medical treatment and hey are probably eating better and healthier than they have in a long time.
Hell yes, this happened to someone very close to me (white collar crime), and he was merely accused! He hadn't done what he was accused of anyways, but he was led around in hand and leg irons, connected to other criminals, some of whom were accused of violent crimes.
This is done to the Al-Qaida prisoners when transporting them, I got no problem with this, apparently all this stuff is removed from them when properly incarcerated, and they are probably living a healthier life than they were back in the desert..
