Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

The odd thing is, anyone born in Canada is Canandian for life. For real? I'm asking because I worked with a Canadien. She was something of a head case, but nice enough. Anyway, she told me she lost her citizenship because she failed to return or file papers or something. She was pretty upset, but she had to jump through legal hoops to get her citizenship back. Was she lying?

As the Republican Warrior Princess steadies her sword in one hand, the other waiting to grab her trusty chakram...BUFFY???? Oh PUHLEEZE! Xena would kick her ass up and down main street and then give the leftovers to her sidekick, Gabrielle.

I understand, but I'm not 50--yet. I'm 39; that's my story and I'm sticking to it. You'll find your keys. The information is still there. The directory just doesn't work so well anymore. ;)

"Perhaps you would do me the honor and give me a pirate name." You gotta take the test like everybody else! What's my Pirate Name?

My wife and I were cruising around the Redneck Riviera about 5 years ago and we started talking about names we would use for a beach cottage or a boat and one of us came up with Yawning Otter. We decided to use it as an e-mail address when we got our computer. My wife uses it on some of her e-mail lists, so I might change it to something to do with Aardvarks.

GJ: I just borrowed one of your credit card numbers. Don't worry, if you file a report you are only responsible for the first $50.
You are welcome to them. I rarely bother to pay the bills anyway.
I could go through the online New York phone directory and get people's names if I wanted to engage in credit card fraud. Why bother to start here?
Personally, I have no wish to hide behind some dumb screenname. Much better just to be the person you say you are.
Then when people meet some arrogant drunken Brit they can't be disaappointed.
Little Bill's bizarre statement has an iota of truth and is the real reason why people are frightened to use their own names.
If we all gave our real names and you made some defamatory statement about another poster, it would be far easier to sue you.
What do you reckon, OPH?
To: foghat
Foghat gave me my name, I guess you will need to ask him what it means!

There is a difference between known experience (fact) and dribbling paranoia (by one that doesn't know for fact). I have not been to any rally, but from what I hear, some folks have had problems when using their real name.
To: jjbrouwer
Just funnin' ... I use my real name as well.
To: jjbrouwer
Because Americans like initials, they started calling me 'JJ'.
Trust me on this: FReepers between 30 and 45 would be glad to call you Dy-no-mite.

"
I can't be bought and am hard to trick"
Lurked for years but never could come up with a non-lame screenname. So finally derived one from my life's motto.
To: jjbrouwer
I'm still Jules to friends in London, but most Americans know me as JJOh. You're a socialist. Well why didn't you say so?
(just kidding)

It comes from a footnote in Bored of the Rings, a Harvard Lampoon spoof of Lord of the Rings.
Dude, you just HAD to bring Frito into it, didn't you?
