I met up at the Student Union with the MSU GOP and Young Americans for freedom. There were about 25-30 of us or so. Two freepers, Jack and Jane Liberty came all the way from Eastpointe to East Lansing. There were several signs on our side there, including "The 60's are over", We love the USA", "Force is necessary", "Daisy Cutters Work", "Give War a chance" and my sign - "PICK A BETTER COUNTRY - MOVE THERE"
There were about 40 or so America haters, communist, capitalist haters, and the like there. One of them was a real jagoff to say the least, and I thought was going to start a fight. Their chants were on the line of - "F the US" "FBI CIA KKK Same thing", "Fascist USA", etc.
It started at the Union, then we went along Grand River to the Marine recruiting station. One of the jerks went up and picked up flyers and littered them all over the place outside. I thought they cared about the environment. These people hate our troops, hate us, and hate the environment0.
We all continued down Grand River and then Hagadorn toward the FBI building there. One of the long haired pencil necks showed pictured of Afghanastan at me and said "Do you support this" "YEAH!! I DO" "HOW CAN YOU BE HUMAN AND SUPPORT THIS???" I simply replied "Cause I'm an A-hole".
At the FBI - They started their FBI attacks, and then called us all racistfascistbigotbabykillinghomophobenazifascistnazinazikkknazietc. They then rallied against oil and capitialism and America. They can pick a better country and move there.
The good news is that we had a decent turnout for a cold Friday day. Not everyone here is an America hater and a Commie. There were a number of us there backing our troops. The bystandards OVERWHELMINGLY backed us. Lastily, our side had several American flags. NOT ONE was on the Anti-American side. Not one. Also, on our side, we all looked like average people. The other side...spiked hair, you get the picture.
Thanks to all that make it, and check the papers in the Lansing area. We made the TV news, and also the Lansing State Journal and State News. We did well.
BTW - It was COLD.
ANd WHY wasn't that Sgt Stomping their guts out???
GREAT JOB!!!
A G**-D*** New York minute, at that!
Nowadays they not only exist, they are as hardy as, if not hardier than the protestors from the Democratic National Committee(DNC).
Where oh where is the draft when you need it? Special Yahoo Units will need to be set up for this gang. Picture the ending of the movie "Hair."
Rally protests bombing in Afghanistan The Associated Press 1/18/02 5:46 PM
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A small group protested the bombing in Afghanistan on Friday, rallying on the Michigan State University campus to call for a peaceful end to America's war on terrorism.
They met in the snow at the MSU student union and marched a short distance to call for eased treatments of immigrants, and an end to racial profiling and the "unjust detainment" of Arabs and Muslims.
The protest was organized by Direct Action, a local activist group.
"It is important now more than ever that people stand up against racist interrogations and in defense of civil liberties," said Heather Buckley, a member of the group in a prepared release.
Another group, supporting the bombing and the U.S. efforts to eradicate terrorism, also showed up, but the demonstrations remained peaceful.

That's it? WTF happened to equal time?
I'm not surprised at the low turnout. I was at MSU back during the late 60's and I have little recollection of anti-war activity back then. Maybe a few liberal arts students and their professors who took over a building for a talk-in or something but they were a fringe bunch and everyone knew it. Heck, shoulder length hair on men drew derision and laughter up until about 68.
On the other hand, a good panty raid like the one at Brody back in '67 or a riot like after the NCAA finals a few years ago, and you have thousands of participants. MSU still is much more of a party school than a Berkeley/Columbia peacenik school.
That's only for socialists and others who hate everything about this country that makes it great. It doesn't apply to us.
Good Job!!!
Welcome to the club. You support bombing and for some god knows what reason did not get violent. Typical liberal press coverage of our side at one of these events. Regardless, America knows the true bottom line and that you guys were out there doing the right thing.
