WAS G-D WRONG?

by Emanuel A. Winston, Mid East Analyst & Commentator

Recently, as a result of an article I posted, I was asked to comment on a recent event wherein a Hebrew teacher in a Jewish school in Israel burned a copy of the New Testament given to a 6th grade student by a Christian missionary. Clearly, it was wrong to burn the Bible of another's religion. However, to be fair, it was equally wrong to gift such a book to an impressionable Jewish youngster. The book burning will, no doubt, sort itself out but, the matter of Christian missionaries trying to convert Jews to some sect of Christianity remains a problem.

To convert a Jew to another religion plainly states that the all-seeing G-d was wrong in selecting the Jewish people to serve him. Most, if not all, religions agree that G-d is perceived to be clear-minded about the future all the way into what is called the 'End of Times'. Therefore, He knew the Jewish people would ebb and flow in their mission. He allowed the Jewish Prophets to glimpse the future so that they could issue warnings for the people and their Kings to mend their ways and stay steady on the path intended as a "light unto the nations".

Sometimes they succeeded and sometimes they failed but, either way, G-d was not unaware of these lapses yet to be. The successes and failures were both well documented in the Hebrew Bible, the first five books of Moses as given by G-d to Moses on Mt. Sinai. There was no attempt to hide the weaknesses (or the strengths) of Jewish leaders and these failures were held out as a lesson for future generations. Men are not angels although in different ages a handful have reached the level of Tzadikim (righteous ones).

There are other religions whose level of expectations was to minimally accept the seven Noahide laws which have indeed marked the progress of Christianity. One can reach higher and adopt more advanced levels of behavior but, too often religion has been used as an excuse to persecute, torture and even destroy "the other" of different religions. Domination via conquest of others was always viewed as a sign in primitive thought that their god was more powerful and theirs was the only correct god to follow. Regrettably, that belief seems to prevail even today as exemplified by our struggle in Afghanistan and the Middle East. It is ramping up even now between India and Pakistan.

The Jews were not instructed to proselytize or press other religions into accepting the Jewish 10 Commandments plus the additional 603 'Mitzvot' (rules of conduct) which the Jews had accepted to live by. They were merely to be servants to HaShem (lit. "The Name" of G-d) and, in doing so, to be a light (example) unto the nations. Granted, they (we) failed frequently and were duly punished for our inability to stay the course. Jews were also not instructed to tell those of other religions that they too were able to cross the threshold of entering the Covenant given to the Jews IF they adopted the laws of Torah.

However, it was not up to men who chose other pathways to G-d to instruct the Jewish people in the belief that G-d had made a mistake in selecting them for this difficult mission. It is understandable that the evolvers of new religions wished their followers to worship in their own ways. It is NOT understandable for them to presume that G-d was mistaken in putting the burden or privilege of servitude on the Jewish people. Moreover, not having spoken directly with G-d as did Noah, Abraham, Moses, how is it possible to challenge or to correct G-d's pronounced judgement in the Torah from these ancient Prophets?

Within the Roman Catholic Church it is believed that the Pope is infallible. Can the one G-d be less so? Can mankind presume to fathom G-d's Mind, Plans and His Vision through all infinite eternity and conclude that He was in error? The hubris of men, to presume to probe the Mind or Intentions of G-d - who rules billions of galaxies out into infinite space - beyond what He has said to do, is presumptuous.

Is it right and proper for various Christian sects who surely believe in their G-d then to come to Jewish youngsters and, in effect, tell them that their Jewish history, their destiny was NOT pre-ordained but the Christian version is? That G-d has changed his mind because He did not or could not see the future. Can anyone say to the Jewish people that "it is our destiny to replace you because, in our opinion, you have failed your mission and G-d's judgment was misplaced"?

The Jewish people are deeply familiar with book burning. During the Church-inspired Inquisition, Torah parchment scrolls were wrapped around rabbis and those who refused forced conversion to Christianity and then set on fire. The parchment was dampened with water so the Jewish victim being burned at the stake would burn to death more slowly and have the opportunity to repent his stubborn dedication to G-d's Covenant and accept conversion.

We recall Hitler's thugs confiscating Jewish holy books and scrolls, using them to create huge bonfires. Later, they burned knowledgeable Jews in the Krupp ovens - with children often thrown in alive. Neither the Catholic Church nor Islam protested. In fact, the world remained curiously silent. Here the motive was not conversion but disposal of a people who would always remain Jewish.

The surge of radical religions has an unhappy past. The Christian Crusades swept through Europe and the Holy Land, killing everyone in their path always proclaiming this was being done in G-d's Name. Christianity raged at that time - certain they were doing G-d's work. Had they actually received G-d's Word or was this merely the zealous imagination of self-anointed clerics thwarted in their self-appointed mission?

Similarly, the Muslim nations surged back against the Crusaders, imposing Islam on the Holy Land and into Spain and France. They also believed that conversion by the sword was what Allah would applaud. Each in their time of glorious conquest demanded obedience to their gods as did the earlier Romans.

Now, in the present, we see Christians being driven out of most Arab and Muslim-dominated countries. They would be allowed to stay IF they accepted conversion to Islam and the correct pathway to their G-d who the Muslims called Allah. This same formula would, of course, apply to the Jewish nation as it always has down through the centuries.

Pursuing other religions with the intent to convert them by aggression or stealth is a sure fire way to inspire hatred and war. Is it not passing strange that down through the ages first Christianity and later Islam sought to meld the lineage of the Jewish tribe of Abraham through conversion with their growing religions even as they proclaimed the Jew had failed the Covenant G-d gave them? Is it possible to dismiss and demonize a people and yet still claim to be the correct heir to their heritage back to their first conversations with G-d?

A Hebrew teacher in Israel, protecting his students from what he considered undue dangerous influence of missionaries using a New Testament book drafted in the Hebrew Language as a tool of conversion, chose the wrong response. He should have visited the school or offices of that Christian sect and returned the book with a public protest.

I have often thought that it would be right and proper for Jewish students, knowledgeable in Torah law, to gather around those who come to proselytize and provide them with an education of why a Jew follows HaShem's laws of instruction in how to lead his life. They must be reminded that HaShem (G-d) had specifically instructed the Jews that: "There shall be no other G-d before Me." Shall a Jew leave G-d's Covenant and break his obligation to the one G-d who revealed Himself to the Jewish people? Has the lesson been forgotten wherein Eve was seduced to break G-d's instructions, resulting in great punishment for all?

Shall we listen to creative men advocating their religions because they can finesse language and thought so they are entirely convincing to others? Perhaps it would be better if they choose as their opponent the G-d who made the rules. I grant you that may be difficult, since G-d seems to have stopped talking to us humans in voice or even through Prophets.

However, if He spoke to us once, perhaps he will do so again. Until that time, wherein He comes to judge us and issues rulings, I think the effort to convert Jews to other ways should be put aside. Presently, we have the Ten Commandments, included in the 613 Mitzvot, and the ethical/moral judgement of wise men who instruct us to treat each other with respect. That is sufficient for now. We are not, however, unaware of the assistance our Christian friends have given Israel during its difficult times and for this we thank you. We understand your efforts to save us are according to your beliefs.

As for the material actually given to the Jewish youths for the purposes of conversion, simply gather it up and return it to the entrance of the institution from whence it came.

Isaiah 53 is not a messianic passage. Read the whole of Isaiah, and tell me, from the context of the whole book, who is the 'servant'?

Psalm 22 is a great example of trying to find something that isn't there. Let me offer a Christian translation first:

[12] Many bulls encompass me,
strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
[13] they open wide their mouths at me,
like a ravening and roaring lion.

[16] Yea, dogs are round about me;
a company of evildoers encircle me;
they have pierced my hands and feet --

[20] Deliver my soul from the sword,
my life from the power of the dog!
[21] Save me from the mouth of the lion,
my afflicted soul from the horns of the wild oxen!

The key here is the translation of verse 16. Christians maintain that the Hebrew word ka-'ari should be translated as 'pierced'. They do so on the claim that the root is krh, "to dig". The problem with this is that it does not account for the 'aleph. Karah consists only of the Hebrew letters kaph, resh, and he, whereas the word in the Hebrew text, ka-'ari, consists of kaph, 'aleph, resh, and yod. Further, the verb krh, "to dig," does not have the meaning "to pierce." Karah generally refers to the digging of the soil, and is never applied in the Scriptures to the piercing of the flesh. A better word would have been nakar, used in 2 Kings 18:21 ("Behold, you are relying now on Egypt, that broken reed of a staff, which will pierce the hand of any man who leans on it. Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.")

The correct translation of verse 16 is:

[16] For dogs have surrounded me;
a company of evildoers have encircled me;
like a lion they are at my hands and my feet.

Which, as you can see, perfectly matches the imagery of the preceding and following verses.

This is one of many such psalms which David wrote about being beset and suffering at the hands of enemies. It is not prophecy, and it is not a messianic passage.

You are very well aware of the reason Jews spell G-d so why the continual disrespect from you? You can't be that stupid but I have seen many times that you are arrogant. Not everyone believes exactly as you do. Imagine that.

This is ridiculous mummery. Depending on your monitor and screen resolution, you write and erase the image of the word God or Jehovah between 60 and 120 times a second on a computer display. If you minimize a window, you erase it. If you, as a Jew, knowingly participate here at FR, knowing full well that you will thereby be causing to be written and destroyed the names God and Jehovah, you have then willingly participated in the destruction of God's name thousands of times before you read a single post. Because even if you don't write God and cause it to appear thousands of times on the screen in your posts, you know full well that someone else will. And for you to read their unavoidable posts on a thread necessitates that you know in advance by the use of such a device you will cause to be created and destroyed on your screen the words God and Jehovah and YHVH and YHWH and Yahweh, etc.

This prohibition is nothing more than pointless piety. I can't imagine the technical ignorance that has produced the practice of writing G-d.

In your writing and in your mind, long term use of these terms will cause your neural network to automatically parse G-d as God. Therefore, in your mind, the two are identical. Unless you believe that God and G-d are two different gods.

You might make your arguments coherent if you are talking about writing in Hebrew. You could make a legimately pious argument there, I think. But G-d is so nonsensical it's just bizarre and ignorant.

Well, you say "THE" Jewish interpretation. I'll confess right off that here, at work, I'd be hard-pressed to produce instant documentation, but to fail to apply Deuteronomy 18:15ff. to Messiah is not "THE" interpretation, is it, as if it were a monolithic and unchallenged position? The NT, which has been well-authenticated as a historically-reliable collection of documents, reflects that first-century Jewish thought accepted a Messianic interpretation of this passage (cf. John 1:21; 6:14; 7:40; Acts 3:22).

And yes, of course they were other true prophets. They were precursors of The Prophet, as godly kings/anointed ones were precursors of The King/Anointed One (Messiah).

Thanks for asking!

One of the things I find fascinating about Jewish belief and practice (among those who reject their Messiah Yeshua (Jesus)that is) is this LACK of proselytization. If Judaism IS the truth, and the rest of religions, including Christianity are distortions of the truth, you'd think for the love of others Jews would WANT to tell us that. I mean Christianity, according to Jewish thought, is actually blasphemy--in that we call a mere man, God ... If that doesn't condemn us in this life, surely it should in the next, correct? Why the entire lack of concern for the rest of humanity, being content just to practice Judaism while the rest of the world can go to hell?

Judaism twaches that people not born Jewish will be saved in the next life so long as they are not pagan idol worshippers and they follow the 7 comandments obligatory on all humanity (not to murder, steal, commit adultery, torture animals, etc.-- basic stuff). Thus, in Jewish thought, Christians and Moslems who live a good life will share in the world to come. The additional commandments given to Jews are an added burden, designed to make the Jews an example to the world, and are not obligatory on non-Jews. Judaism's aversion to prosletyzing in no way reflects an attitude that gentiles should "go to hell."

The " chosen people" were at that time in the OT, the chosen out of the pagan peoples. However, here is where discerntment comes in. The "chosen" are neither Jew nor Gentile ( Gentile= pagan at that time.) The chosen are NOW grafted in with the origianl chosen.

These concepts are not in my bible. Nor do I see any reason to accept the Christian scriptures as canonical.

Please point out for me exactly where in the Hebrew scriptures the messiah is prophecied to come more than once.

Well, first of all, I have not made that claim.

Jesus himself said that his return would be within the lives of 'this generation'.

Clearly, you are referring to Matthew 23:30. I am sure you are aware that there is a great deal of debate even among Christians with respect to this point - hence the preterist versus the pre-tribs, etc. I hold to the belief that it is a dual prophecy - the first being the destruction of the temple in 70AD (minor) and the second to his return (major). The word "generation" is used to describe those alive at the time with respect to the first prophecy but it also can be used to describe a people. In the latter case, I believe what Jesus is saying is that the Jews will not disappear from the earth before his return.

If we dig a little deeper into the passage that you quote (Matthew 23:30) we see that just prior to the "this generation" statement, versus 26 and 27 Jesus says

"At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

This portion is clearly not related to the destruction of the temple in 70AD. To sum this up, I believe that the prophecy is a dual prophecy describing the destruction of the temple in 70AD (a relatively minor event) as well as describing Jesus' return (the most important event).

It wasn't until 2 Peter that we see them beginning to try to come up with reasons for the delay of Jesus's expcted return.

Obviously, you are referring to 2 Peter 3:8. This response I found on the Net to preterist concerning 2 Peter is helpful.

It has been suggested (by preterists) that it is inconsistent or rather gratuitous to appeal to 2Pet.3:8 to explain the "delay" in Christ's return. "With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day." But it must be noted that this is Peter's own explanation. The preterist argues that since Christ spoke of the "nearness" of His coming it must be that He has already come. The scoffers whom Peter addressed argued that the same evidence indicated that He will not come at all. And it is Peter's answer that leads us to think in terms of God's view of time. "For God, it's not been long at all!" This is an entirely legitimate argument. It has inspired apostolic endorsement.

Imagine Tom and Dick.

Both are great guys. Each has a great loving family. Each coaches little league. Each pays his taxes. They are religious. They are model citizens. They are friends.

Ask each of the other and they will tell you the same thing. He is a great guy and a great American citizen. They both respect what the other does and neither thinks the other is a better person.

Tom dresses as he likes, goes where he likes, fraternize with whom he likes.

Dick can frequently be told how to dress, where to go and with whom he may not fraternize.

Tom is a businessman (or just about anything else).

Dick is in the Service.

There are different rules to their lives. It doesn't make one better then the other.

People who don't understand why Jews don't proselytize, don't understand Judaism.

Judaism is for Jews (anyone who wants to be a Jew). The obligations is on Jews. We don't judge other Religions. We don't think others are better or worse. We don't think we are going to heaven and you're not.

Judaism has many rules. The rules are for Jews only. In the same way that a soldier has to follow special rules that a civilian does not. It doesn't make the soldier a better citizen.

For whatever reasons, it is Gentiles who ascribe to us their notion of "Chosen" as superior. That is not Jewish belief.

It is Jewish belief that we are special, a "Holy Nation".

One might say that a person is the service considers that they are special.

Anyone can join the Service

Anyone can convert to Judaism.

We don't proselytize because we see nothing wrong with anyone who is not Jewish. We don't condemn you to Hell.

If you want to join the "Holy Nation", that is up to you, on your own volition to decide. We take all, not just "the few and the proud".

Winston uses a lot of straw man arguments to make his points. I would say, "Alright, then. The Old Testament (which all Christians believe) says that the only way to approach God is with a blood sacrifice. Where is your sacrifice?" Without it, their own scriptures tell them they have no right to approach God.

You have said many of my own thoughts more eloquently than I could. Thank you.

Just one further thought: As Christians, we have been grafted into the root of the tree of Abraham (Rom 11:17), and although we remain "wild shoots" not inclined to follow all the traditions and teachings held by Jews, they are nonetheless our brothers and sisters and should be treated with all respect. Paul in fact gives a warning to that effect in Rom 11:21 when he said, "For if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you either."

Almighty God is able to save whomever He will without our interference or "help". No crusade is needed. No sharp words need be exchanged over points of theology. Love, respect and charity are far more powerful than any sword.

When a Catholic converts to Baptist, he ceases to be a Catholic (at least in his own eyes. I'm not sure what the Church says). When a Christian converts to Islam, he ceases to be a Christian.

But a Jew can not convert to Christianity because Christianity is a Jewish sect. A Jew can decide to accept Yeshua as Messiah, but the Jew remains a Jew. All of the first Christians were not only Jews, but Torah Observant Jews. Shaul (known as Paul to the goyim) was a Pharisee.

G-d intended to bring worship of Himself and to bring His Messiah to the nations through the Jewish people. Christianity is not proof of the failure of Judaism, but of its success in this mission.

The fact split of the Church from the Synagogue was not G-d's plan. It was not G-d's plan that the Church forbid any Christian from practicing of Jewish customs. It was not G-d's plan to add a curse to the Amidah that would curse Christians. That's what men did.

Jews do not become non-Jews when they accept Yeshua as Meshiach.

So, no, G-d was not wrong.

Shalom.

Baseball is a fun sport and so is basketball.

If you bring a bat on to a basketball court, you may be inventing a fun new game, and there is nothing wrong with that, but you will not be playing basketball.

Christianity is not Judaism.

I would say, "Alright, then. The Old Testament (which all Christians believe) says that the only way to approach God is with a blood sacrifice. Where is your sacrifice?" Without it, their own scriptures tell them they have no right to approach God.

The problem is, your assumptions are wrong. I posted an essay on this on another thread recently; let me go dig it up.

.

Sacrifice and Atonement in the Tanakh

We are in agreement that there were a variety of different sacrifices that were made for different purposes. The question then is whether or not blood is required for atonement.

If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock...and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.(Leviticus 1:2,4)

This does not refer to a required sacrifice; the phrase begins conditionally: "IF...you bring an offering..." So here we see that contrary to your conclusion, the blood is not required for atonement. Rather, the blood sacrifice was acceptable for atonement, which is quite a different thing.

Leviticus Chapters 4 and 5 discuss sin offerings. You will note that it is repeated that this sort of sacrifice was for unintentional sins, that is, sins done through ignorance of the Law. As you yourself point out, 5:11states that an offering of flour may be offered if the person is not able to provide the appropriate animal offering. So, while blood sacrifice may be normative for this sort of offering, it is not absolutely required.

Chapter 6:1-7 deals with intentional sin. The sinner is expected to make restitution and then an animal offering. Chapter 16 discusses Yom Kippur. It is true that these passages do not mention alternative means of atonement. However, such means are discussed elsewhere in scripture. More on that later. Not every intentional sin, though, could be atoned for by sacrifice. Some were to be punished, without sacrifice, sometimes even by death:

Moreover you shall accept no ransom for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death; but he shall be put to death. (Numbers 35:31)

Before I discuss alternative means of atonement, I would like to address the passage that confuses Christians, Leviticus 17:11. This is the verse that people ordinarily cite for the notion that blood is required:

For the soul of the flesh is in the blood and I have assigned it for you upon the altar to provide atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that atones for the soul.

But the passage that this verse comes from is not about atonement; it is about dietary laws, and the passage says only that blood is used to obtain atonement; not that blood is the only means for obtaining atonement. Leviticus 17:10-12 could be paraphrased as "Don't eat blood, because blood is used in atonement rituals; therefore, don't eat blood."

When the laws of sacrifice were laid down in the Torah, the pre-existence of a system of sacrificial offering was understood, and sacrificial terminology was used without any explanation. The Torah, rather than creating the institution of sacrifice, carefully circumscribes and limits the practice, permitting it only in certain places, at certain times, in certain manners, by certain people, and for certain purposes.

Take heed that you do not offer your burnt offerings at every place that you see;
but at the place which the LORD will choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I am commanding you. (Deuteronomy 12:13-14)

Now, the last place that God authorized as the location for sacrifices was the Temple in Jerusalem.

The people were sacrificing at the high places, however, because no house had yet been built for the name of the LORD. (1 Kings 3:2)

Then the LORD appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: "I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. (2 Chronicles 7:12)

And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done. He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Ashe'rah. (2 Kings 18:3-4)

As you noted, God established Yom Kippur and the atonement of that day "for ever", as "an everlasting statute". Now, with the building of the Temple it became the only authorized place to offer sacrifice. And with the Law stating that atonement was to be made on Yom Kippur "for ever", what was to be done when the Temple was destroyed? As scripture demonstrates, God offers alternative means.

Charity can provide atonement

And you shall take the atonement money from the people of Israel, and shall appoint it for the service of the tent of meeting; that it may bring the people of Israel to remembrance before the LORD, so as to make atonement for yourselves. (Exodus 30:16)

Prayer can make atonement

Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray thee, according to the greatness of thy steadfast love, and according as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now."
Then the LORD said, "I have pardoned, according to your word; (Numbers 14:19-20)

Other offerings of value can make atonement

And we have brought the LORD's offering, what each man found, articles of gold, armlets and bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and beads, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD. (Numbers 31:50)

Turning from evil can make atonement

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I intend to do to them, so that every one may turn from his evil way, and that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. (Jeremiah 36:3)

Obedience can make atonement

For I desire goodness, not sacrifice;
Obedience to God, rather than burnt offerings. (Hosea 6:6)

As this last example shows, not only did God say that the other methods were acceptable, but that the blood sacrifices were not necessary. Man's sincere repentance did not require that he sacrifice when not able to do so.

If you offer Me burnt offerings--or your meal offerings--
I will not accept them;
I will pay no heed
To your gifts of fatlings.
Spare me the sound of your hymns,
And let Me not hear the music of your lutes.
But let justice well up like water,
Righteousness like an unfailing stream.
Did you offer sacrifice and oblation to Me
Those forty years in the wilderness,
O House of Israel? (Amos 5:22-25)

With what shall I come before the LORD,
and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
with calves a year old?
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousands of rivers of oil?
Shall I give my first-born for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?"

He has showed you, O man, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:6-8)

Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire;
but thou hast given me an open ear.
Burnt offering and sin offering
thou hast not required. (Psalm 40:7)

The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. (Psalm 51:17)

I will praise the name of God with a song;
I will magnify him with thanksgiving.
This will please the LORD more than an ox
or a bull with horns and hoofs. (Psalm 69:30-31)

Take words with you
And return to the Lord.
Say to Him:
"Forgive all guilt
And accept what is good;
Instead of bulls we will pay
The offering of our lips. (Hosea 14:3)

The 'offering of our lips', prayer, is now the only sacrifice, and one of the primary means of atonement, that Jews now make to God. In addition to Hosea 14:3 and Numbers 14:19-20, we find:

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD,
but the prayer of the upright is his delight. (Proverbs 15:8)

if they repent with all their mind and with all their heart in the land of their enemies, who carried them captive, and pray to thee toward their land, which thou gavest to their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;
then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause
and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions which they have committed against thee; (1 Kings 8:48-50)

And the people of Israel said to the LORD, "We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to thee; only deliver us, we pray thee, this day."
So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD; and he became indignant over the misery of Israel. (Judges 10:15-16)

When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people,
if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:13-14)

The difference is that Jews do not believe that you need to convert to Judaism in order to be 'saved'. We believe that the righteous of all nations will have a place in the World to Come.

Still, if Judaism is the BEST way to God (of many) why not share that? To not do so, if you really think Judaism is best, seems not loving.

Christianity may be an acceptable form of monotheism for gentiles, even as it would be unacceptable for Jews.

This is schizoprhenic... 2 kinds of people in the world, the chosen people and non-chosen? If simple adherence to the Law makes life here and now better for people, why wouldn't you do everything you can to share that?

Jesus directly fulfilled in detail HUNDREDS of messianic prophecies from the Torah--its too bad most Jewish people can't handle facing that and know their Messiah.

Uh, nope, he didn't. There are only a handful of messianic prophecies in the Hebrew scriptures, and Jesus did not fulfill them. The 'hundreds' of 'prophecies' to which you refer are the result of Christians reading Jesus into the Tanakh, ripping passages completely out of context. Most of these so-called prophecies aren't even prophecies, let alone having anything to do with the messiah.

So, ALL the below don't apply to Yeshua and are ripped completely out of context??? I think not...

What more could Jesus have done to prove Himself Messiah? Rise from the dead???

OK...you gave me a lesson in Hebrew....so it is my turn....admittidly I am not the scholar that you seem to be, but i will try none the less....LOL

Jesus himself said that his return would be within the lives of 'this generation'.

generation: from the Greek word gevnoß

Definition : 1.kindred a. offspring b. family c. stock, tribe, nation (i.e. nationality or descent from a particular people) c. the aggregate of many individuals of the same nature, kind, sort

looking at the Greek it seems to me that he was very possibly speaking of events that could be far down the road. I believe that we should use the Hebrew and Greek in our studies but lets do it consistantly.....If your going to look at the Hebrew for the OT....you need to also look at the Greek as well for the NT
