How about a Freeper Postal Match?

If you are not familiar with the term, "Postal" dosen't mean shooting up a post office. It is a means for shooters in different parts of the country to compete against each other in a contest of marksmanship.

Shooters are mailed numbered targets which they shoot, at agreed upon distances, times and calibers. The targets are returned via the mail (hence "postal") and scored. Obviously, the honor system comes into play here.

I think it would be interesting to do amongst ourselves. Any takers?

..Is the wood table top showing through the shot-out star hole?

Yep. My brother-in-law and I took this particular gallery to the cleaners this summer. Got three mini-bicycles for the kids for about $20. in BB's

Those damn things are addictive to me. After I go through about $20 with nothing to show but the tiniest of exposed red fibers (I'm convinced our galleries have red threads which permeate the entire target), I start getting The Eye from the missus and that's that.

Then it's time to go throw my arm out for a goldfish.

Thanks for letting us know about the targets. As you already know the trick for shooting the star out is to shoot around the star. I have a 50% chance of winning. How did you win the bikes? Did you have to shoot more than one star out? My problem when I do it is that half way through cutting the star out, I can turn around and noticed that everyone in the area quit what they're doing and is staring at me. It's kind of hard on the nerves. The last time I won, I went to the fair with a couple that helped to run a charity. I promised that if I won, I would donate the stuffed animal, but I wouldn't carry it. I should have done it just before we left because they had to cart this large stuffed animal all over the fair. What was irritating was that the carny kept moving his fingers along the edge for a couple of minutes looking for some red. I kept on telling the guy that the hole was bigger than the star so how could there be any red on the cardboard. The SOB kept ignoring me looking for the nonexistant red. I was convinced that he had a little red on his fingertips. After a couple of minutes of going over the target he finally conceded that I won. Then he made a big deal out of it to get more customers. What a @#*&%$^%^&!

The stand had these tiny, but real bicycles as one of the choices for successfully shooting out the star. We tried a couple of times with no luck - we knew enough to shoot around the star, and to shoot as few BB's as possible, but didn't win.

The next day we were talking to another guy at a different "star" booth - he was bored so he spent about fifteen minutes explaining the best technique. His "trick" was to flick the trigger so as to fire one BB at a time.

We went back to the original booth and my brother-in-law nailed it on the second target. I felt bad for the girl running the booth - it was her first day, and her "trainer" had just left her on her own. She shut the booth down to go find her boss when her first customer won. The limit was one win per day, so we went back the next day and both won.

It looks like I'm a little late finding this thread, but are you still asking for shooters? If so, let me know what I have to do.

You're right about "flicking the trigger". I usually hit it after holding onto the sub as tight as I can. Two BB's will penetrate and maybe two will fall out. I don't shoot when anyone else is shooting because I worry about the air pressure. The sights don't matter because I'm not really using them. The hardest part is hitting away from the 12 o'clock angle. That's the hardest. I hate actually hitting the star because then it costs me too much to correct. It's fun to have the star fall to the ground on the last burst. I was shocked that they let you have the target. I have never had any carny let me have it. They always hang it up after waving it around for the crowd to see. What's funny is that after I win, the next players try to duplicate what I did. I can come back later on and they're back to shooting one long burst. My biggest mistake is not asking what I can win before I pay the money. I should get the guy committed to the prize before I start but I have never kept a single prize. What's funny is that I'm shaking by the time I'm done because it takes so long. I have even rested for a while half way through.

A R R R G G H H !

The targets came in but were the wrong ones. They sent 50 FOOT slow fire, I asked for 25 YARD Timed fire.

The bulls are really too small to be useful so we wait another week.

If I can dig up a couple of extras between now and next week, I'll include you, DT.

I'm sure every one of us appreciates what it takes to organize something like this. Thanks for your efforts.

Understood. Murphy and his various laws affect all that we do. Some day I'd like to meet Murphy. I'd punch him, but would probably break my hand in the process due to one of his laws

From what I understand, Murphy - the actual technician who was, ironically, misquoted - is still alive.

So'kay - more time to practice. If you can't return the targets, maybe you would consider sponsoring a postal match that uses them as well?

I am always amazed at what I can learn on FR. I have always wanted to know how to win the star shootout bb-machinegun thing. Thanks.

Finding a good BB gun is just as important as technique. Some "star" booths are rigged worse than the tiny oval basketball hoops with 90psi balls.

Actually, Murphy and his laws are a constant source of amusement to me, when they happen to others. When it happens to me, a constant source of aggravation

The targets are in!

This time, I waited until I actually had them in front of me. They will be in the mail tomorrow.

Good luck (again) all!

P.S. Kudos to the National Target Co. In MD - Great service and cheaper than local stores.
