If you are not familiar with the term, "Postal" dosen't mean shooting up a post office. It is a means for shooters in different parts of the country to compete against each other in a contest of marksmanship.
Shooters are mailed numbered targets which they shoot, at agreed upon distances, times and calibers. The targets are returned via the mail (hence "postal") and scored. Obviously, the honor system comes into play here.
I think it would be interesting to do amongst ourselves. Any takers?

Two caliburs....10 slow, 10 timed, 10 fast.. Some of this may be tough. I have a 22LR 10 shot semi-auto (a real tack driver), 1911 45 acp 7+1 ( 4.25" barrel, semi-accurate), 357 7 shot 2" snubbie (not a target gun), 357 single action Blackhawk 6 shot (very accurate), .22 WMR 8 shot revolver (very accurate) and a .454 Casull 6 shot Ruger SuperRedHawk (a very accurate wristwrecker).

My hands shake too much, but I can flag some shooters for you.

Sounds great to me, as long as there's an "RPS" class
{That's 'REALLY Poor Shooters'}

"Of course there is always the sex thing..."Now that's a different type competition altogether, and postal is probably the best way to do it.
I'm not sure how you'd score it, though.

I'd go with the tack driver and the Blackhawk with .38 wadcutters.

OK, looks like we could have a match.
Anyone interested and capable of participating, Freepmail me. Feel free to suggest modifications to the rules below:

- Equipment: .22 caliber rimfire pistol and centerfire pistol of any caliber. Semi-auto or revolver.
- Distance: 25 yds. Indoor or outdoor
- Course of fire: 30 rounds with each pistol. Six targets / five shots each.
- Time: 5 rounds fired within five minutes / 5 rounds within 20 seconds / and 5 rounds in 10 seconds.
- Position: Any standing freehand (no leaning on stationary objects) position, single or double-handed, is acceptable; wheelchair or other disabled persons may, of course, make the necessary modifications to this rule.
- Scoring: If bullet hole (not secondary paper tears) touches ring, higher score is assigned.
- Tibreakers: Number of X-ring hits, then minimum overall group size
- Categories: Best overall score, Best rimfire, Best Centerfire, Smallest group.
- Other Rules: Obey all local laws and shoot safely.

Any other formats? I shoot pistol and skeet, so input / help from rifle shooters would be appreciated.

In Equipment, I assume you forgot to write "open sights only". No scopes, red dots, optics, lasers or ghost rings.

Bump. Any thoughts on how long the (first) competition will be open? I have to get out of the city to shoot unless I go to a range.
2-3 weeks?

I was thinking of an open sights only restriction - personally I don't think scopes make you a better shot (at 25 yds.). I use open sights, so if thats the consensus, it's fine by me.

I was thinking of leaving it open until the end of February to allow us cold weather outdoor shooters a better chance of finding a decent weekend.

Using as little equipment as possible makes for a level playing field. Using out of the box, no optics firearms lets the other people compete. You don't want someone competing with a eight inch barreled coyote gun with a ten power scope.
I had a discussion with a Highpower Rifle Master and I mentioned that I saw more cheating in IPCS and IDPA than I ever saw in Highpower Rifle.

Are you interested?
To: NY.SS-Bar9
Count me in. I'm a much better shot with a high powered rifle (unmodified, no optics) than with a pistol, but would be happy to compete in either or both.
To: NY.SS-Bar9
I'm up for that!
And don't forget to send a pitcure from the range holding the target!
