University Is Buzzing as Young Pastor Resigns

A homosexual scandal is rocking Rev. Jerry Falwell's archconservative Liberty University, where rumours are rampant that male students engaged in gay sex with a campus pastor.

Scrambling to do damgae control, Falwell-an outspoken foe of homosexuality -slammed a news lid on his Lynchburg Va. campus.

When an ENQUIRER reporter contacted the university to ask about the sudden resignation of Eric Lovett, 29, assistant pastor in Liberty's spiritual life department, Falwell himself called back within minutes.

"While I have heard rumours, I myself have no knowledge, no personal knowledge, of any gay movement," said the 68-year old preacher.

Lovett vehemently denies being part of any gay ring and insists he is not homosexual, but Falwell told the ENQUIRER "I was told he has had problems in this area you speak of (homosexuality), but I myself have no personal knowledge of this.

If this is true, and I believe the National Enquirer is often correct on these matters, then the people involved reacted according to Christian princples as outlined in the Bible.
Does that include lying? Because if this is true, then both Eric Lovett and his Reverend father are lying:
"Lovett vehemently denies being part of any gay ring and insists he is not homosexual..."
"There has never been any gay activity, nothing at all, in all the years I have been here," said the minister.

Nah. The liberals lost their chance to demonize Bush politically , "big time."
BUT, Bush IS a Christian, therefore, attack his private life, and get the Christians with him. Try to kill two birds with one stone.

Never trust a liberal.

I don't think that's the case. They'll print dirt on ANYONE in the public realm. I doubt they discriminate based on political orientation.

They're always printing slime about Hollyweirdos, that doesn't mean Righties are feeding them info.

This is a total non-story unless Falwell was himself a member of the homosexual ring that was exposed. And that's not likely.

Hey, did you catch this article yesterday? Worst Dressed Woman of 2001

Next in line were pop music trio Destiny's Child, which Blackwell referred to as a ``trilogy of taste-free terror hitting a crescendo of off-pitch kitsch. Three peas in a peek-a-boo pod.''

BTW, did Classygreenblonde teach you that colored lettering trick? As long as we are discussing rumors....

Maybe some parents pay big money to send kids to these perceived sheltered little perfect worlds(so maybe their kids won't make some of the mistakes they made), but Christian schools have many of the same problems as secular schools. The differences are that the problems are often more hidden, far less dominant or representative, not endorsed or enabled by the school, and a far more supportive environment for avoiding or effectively dealing with these problems exists in the students, faculty, and social services. THESE are what make a Christian school worth the money compared to secular ones.

Good response to BoPepper. I don't know of any parent who believes that a Christian school is going to be a "perfect" environment and that his child will never face any temptations there. Everything that goes on in "regular" colleges exists at Christian schools, although on a much, much smaller scale. I am certain of that as a graduate of a prominent Christian university.

Your comment "not endorsed or enabled by the school" is the key. At many secular schools, homosexual behavior (and drug abuse, binge drinking, sexual promiscuity, etc.) is seen as normal, and students are encouraged to explore it as a possible lifestyle choice. I know that's the case at the college in the town where I currently live (a college, by the way, that technically is still church-affililated but doesn't like to admit it).

I know Danny Lovett personally, I haven't met his son though. this would really hurt him and his family immensly. I would tend to give this some doubt until I hear hard facts. but when there is smoke there is usually fire.

Danny Lovett has visited my church (in Columbus Ohio) the last couple of years. I enjoyed his sermon. I'm saddened for the stress this will bring his family. Even if its not true, this will be a huge distraction.
