'Granny' Busted For Pot Sales

A 72-year-old woman is one of three members of a Green Cove Springs family now in jail, accused of selling marijuana.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office arrested Elnora "Granny" Layfield, along with Michael and Linda Layfield, last Friday in their Stauffer Street home. Officer seized approximately 30 bags of marijuana valued at $1,200 from the house. Police said that undercover officers bought marijuana at the home on four separate occasions prior to issuing a search warrant. When officers entered the home, the elder Layfield was found sitting in a living room with several bags of marijuana.
"It's unusual to find someone her age selling pot, but she's not the first and probably won't be the last," said Lt. Larry Thompson, who heads up the Clay County Drug Task Force, which co-ordinates the efforts of the sheriff's office, the Green Cove Springs and Orange Park police departments.
All three suspects were charged with possession, sale and delivery of marijuana over 20 grams, a felony with penalties of up to five years in jail upon conviction.
Elnora Layfield has two prior drug-related charges.
"Maybe a little jail time will send a stronger message to her -- because probation isn't working," Thompson said.

A grandiose statement, but you never answered the question. Would you rather live in Dinkins NYC or Guiliani NYC. I have read recent articles on Free Republic detailing the daily life of a 'pot delivery' bike messenger in NYC. This practice is widespread and common in Guiliani's NYC, so I don't see what relevance Guiliani/Dinkins has to the mj issue. I can't believe that people think society is safer when non-violent granny is in jail taking up a space that could be keeping a violent criminal off the streets.

Yea,that's what I want, a true "head",working on the plane I'm about to take off on. Scared of guns?

This thread is about marijuana, not homeless people. You have been told this many, many times. I now will click on "Post" and cast a few more pearls before swine. Sorry weinerdog.com, Hardcase's reply #90, here I will post it again as it is, is the quintessential Libertarian reply,
So a junkie on the street(not bothering anybody, just being a junkie) is just fine.(Dane)
Why don't you think it is fine? How does it affect you?(Hard Case)
So weinerdog.com are you going to defend Hard Case or not?
I actually have some empathy for you, since defending Hard Case, is casting pearls before swine, IMHO.

I believe you have the floor. You were asked how a junkie on the street, not bothering anyone, affects you. Not that I care, as we are not discussing junkies or homeless people. I do not expect this news flash to impact your arguments, since it has already been pointed out to you several bazillion times.

Alcohol is legal, do you see all the pilots drunk before take-off? You show up to work incapacitated you still have to deal with your employer which is a private contractual issue.
Scared of guns? Yes I think so, you seem quick to want to take them away from people and have an unnatural fear of being capped in the back of the head. If my assesment is wrong please illustrate why.
To: Dane
Since you seem to have a poor grasp of basic grammar and punctuation, let me break it down for you. It wasn't a reply, it was a question. I think the question mark at the end should have given that away. Are you going to answer the question? <- Note question mark.

If your mythical junkie is not doing anything to bother anybody, how do you even know he is a junkie? If he's covered in his own urine, he's creating a health hazard and can be removed from the area. If he's confronting people and screaming at them, as junkies in NYC often do, he can be charged with harassment, and taken to jail.
Since you like making up scenarios, let me ask you about one. If there's a guy sitting in Battery park, wearing a stupid grin and giggling as he watches the boats float by, what steps would you take to determine if he was an evil pot-smoker? For how many years would you stick him in prison if he failed your test? I assume you wouldn't act like a libertarian and just let him watch the boats.

Do you(weinerdog.com) think it would be good for your neighborhood?
Would you(weinerdog.com) walk out to the junkie and say, "Mr. Junkie, I am a Libertarian, and since you are bothering no one, just shooting up, I as a "Libertarian constitutionalist" will respect your right to shoot up anywhere, anytime, and will not call the local authorities."

How does your scenario differ if the person was drinking booze instead of shooting up ?

You are not going to bait me into personally attacking you. That is the only possible reason for your idiotic posts. I am finished trying to communicate with you. You are going to say you won this argument, which is fine, if that gives you a woody. I would rather have you sitting in front of a computer than running around loose.

LOLOLOL!!

That was pretty funny.

No,I just don't want 99% of America, walking around the streets packing a "rod".How about a "gat" or a "heater?" Your Elliot Ness vocabulary is amusing.
Since, by your statement, you apparently don't support a marked decrease in violent crimes, care to elaborate why?
To: headsonpikes; wienerdog.com; Hard Case
LOLOLOL!! Yaaaaawwwwn! Excuse me, sorry. I always find the "group think" Libertarian non-answers to a situation as described in reply #108, boring.

With granny in JAIL, the kiddies won't have any of granny's tasty treats, and when the kiddies are sad, puppies are sad. LET GRANNY GO!!!!! Granny's homemade brownies were by far, the most popular in the neighborhood.

No,I just don't want 99% of America, walking around the streets packing a "rod".In other words then, yes, are against the 2nd Amendment. Nice. Don't you think you would be more comfortable at the MMM's forum?

How about all those doritos that are consumed because of her.....
To: Eddeche
How does your scenario differ if the person was drinking booze instead of shooting up ? Uh no difference. If someone is drinking Thunderbird from a paper bag(and not bothering anybody, the Libertarian credo) and staggering around in the street, I would have the same reaction.
