Thanks for posting. But the person who wrote the article is ignorant when they write:
When a stealth bomber was suspected to be flying through their area they saturated the sky with missile and heavy machine-gun fire and managed to shoot one down.
Really? When was a B-2 shot down?

The Iraqis won't be able to use that radar if it takes a 2000 pound bomb hit.
And, I would be very careful of the source of this report.

That "czech" radar is not what brought down that F-117. We were flying the same patterns night after night...eventually they just moved a lot of triple A into place and had at it...
They had taken shots at F-117's flying the same pattern the previous night and missed, instead of changing tactics we continued flying the same route...the next night they got lucky.
Iraq can spend all the money they want...no radar is going to give them a fix on a F-1117.

Osama bin Laden has been named Iraq's Man of The Year, according to the official Iraqi press, because of the way in which he has "raised the image of Islam and defied the might of the USA".Man of the year.... They got his picture from the wanted dead or alive posters, because they could not find him in the Afgan caves either.
Sounds like it is past time to RAZE Iraq.

Radars are missile-magnets.
Particularly in Iraq.

Didn't the Serbs shoot down some kind of American Stealth fighter? Don't think it was a B-2 though.

Correct, a F-117 was shot down, but not a bomber.

Isn't it about time we just call it the F-117?

We were flying the same patterns night after night...Frigging brilliant! Who's the Rocket Scientist responsible for that brain fart?

I hadnt heard that...
I wouldnt be surprised.
That is the only way you can bring one down.
You have to know ahead of time the flight path and then load up triple A in the surrounding countryside...especially on different hillsides, that way when and if the plane jinks the chances are he will be moving into the path of an incoming missile or ground fire.

Well, they were going to take pictures of the shot down B-2, but it's so stealthy, they couldn't find the wreckage...

It's how they killed the F-111 in Vietnam. The 474th Fighter Wing was flying them in Operation Combat Lancer. They were using the Terrain Following Radar to stay low. The North Vietnamese figured out that if you fired chaff rockets along the flight path, the TFR saw a mountain and pulled up. After that, massed AA would open up in the area and do their damage.

Heres a side question for anyone out there. What ever happened to the leftover parts of the F117? Were we able ever able to retrieve 'em, or blow 'em up our selves? Whatever happened, I hope the Chinese didn't buy any scraps.
To: knak
The thing is, the bomber is faster than HELL and very quiet. By the time any radar detects it, it is too late.

French officer accused of collaborating with Milosevic government(Disregard the source, it's the best link I could find.)
Pierre-Henri Bunel, a former French intelligence officer, is appearing before a military tribunal charged with treason. Bunel is accused of handing over to Serbian intelligence secret plans for the Alliances air strikes on Yugoslavia, one year before the bombing campaign commenced in spring 1999.
Bunel is no minor figure in French military circles. He received the Légion dhonneur, Frances highest military decoration, for his intelligence work in Bosnia in 1995. He was attached to the French NATO delegation in Brussels in mid-1996, serving as head of staff to the delegations senior military adviser, General Pierre Wiroth. He had access to most of NATOs classified information.

The F-117 is a bomber. The F is a misnomer. The Nighthawk has no air-to-air radar and although it has the ability to carry AIM-9's, which are heat seekers, it rarely if ever does. It has no cannon to engage airborne targets. It does not engage in dogfights.
