THE folks at Msnbc are talking to former Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Alan Keyes about hosting a 10 p.m. show up against Fox News' new hire, Greta Van Susteren. Meanwhile, Van Susteren, a lawyer before her O.J. Simpson commentary turned her into a CNN star, reportedly has penned an eight-page memo detailing CNN's demerits. She plans to keep the document secret as long as CNN doesn't try to paint her as an ungrateful traitor.

That's the dumbest response I have EVER seen.

You were wrong. Again. But, of course, you'll never admit it. Years from now, you'll be claiming Keyes supported Bush from the very beginning.

The object of being in the debates is to get votes, and if you have to do a tap dance or sing opera, you do it. Period.

I disagree. If a candidate is doing that I don't trust him.

GW seems to still be tap dancing, even though he is President.

You don't often agree with Keyes, right? Have you noticed inconsistencies in him....is he all over the board dropping principles right and left....or is he as consistent as the sun risisng inthe east and setting in the west

Does it appear to you that his principles or morals are set down very deeply within him?

Now if that doesn't say that Gore is better than Bush at making his point

This is a technical judgement as to Gore's superior skills as a debater, something many of your fellow Keyes bashers have admitted, and is really just the simple truth, and is not a matter which is disputed. As I said, please give an example of Keyes praising Gore, not an example of Keyes stating a well-known fact about relative political skills.

So you admit that Keyes should have gotten out AFTER the convention since he was only staying in to influence the platform? So he should have gotten out the end of July?

If not, why did he stay so long. What was he trying to influence from July to November?

Howlin doesn't lie, make things up in order to refute another's post, and YES, I saw here, what she has stated !

Those who no longer think that Alan Keyes is the GOP's answer to anything, WERE told that we are immoral, and worse. The stem cell threads got VICIOUS, and the regular GOPers , who disagreed with Keyes' wild eyed rant against President Bush's stance , were called immoraal, pro-choicers, pro-death, pro-abortionits, racists and a whole lot more.

I, for one, really used to like Keyes ; thought that he was great . Then, he went off the deep end, and I began to rethink my opinion of him. No, NOT because I disagreed with what he said. I took a much closer look at EVERYTHING that he had said. THE SCALES FELL FROM MY EYES.

If you don't believe me, or Howlin, go read the FR archieves !

Sue, did you read the article you linked? Keyes only through his support behind Cheney,.....

Dated July 26th 2000,

"Keyes said he supports Bush’s choice of former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney as his running mate, adding that Cheney’s anti-abortion views mirrored his own. He said he would join other Republicans to unite behind Bush at the party’s convention in Philadelphia next week."

You see, he said he would join other Republicans at the convention, and then he didn't......not a man of his word....

Post 399 only says he sent out email 10/22/00 supporting Bush, it does not say when he made the decision to support Bush. The decision to support Bush was made much earlier. If I recollect, his only reservation regarding full fledged support had to do with the pro-life plank in the party platform and this was resolved at the convention.

Sheesh, Miss Marple, if you're so worried about those who might undermine the war effort, I doubt your time is well spent on either Keyes or Kristol...Keyes is a patriot; and Kristol and his neocon buddies are in high pasture now...the opportunities for meddling internationally are now almost endless.

Now if you are inferring that anyone who is in the least critical of administration policies, either domestically or internationally is the enemy of our country, you will have taken this fight to a new precipice.

Hope you aren't going to egg your followers here over that cliff.

Good. I hope this happens. I would love to see Ambassador Keyes back in the public eye. We need someone with his conscience, clarity, and articulation to help remind us of the real American values.

Besides, it would give me something to watch while Greta van Susteren is on.

BTW, what ever happened to CNN's talks with Rush? And what happened with O'Reilly's radio program?

I mean without qualifying it.

That is really the thing with you people, isn't it. You want people to give the President un-qualified praise, like he was an emperor, or oriental potentate. Well I am a citizen of a Free Republic, and I will never kowtow to anyone.

You may find it comfortable on your knees, like so many Monica Lewinskys, but decent free citizens stand on their feet, and state their opinions openly and frankly, without the servility which you demand. Fortunately President Bush holds grovelers like you in contempt, which is why none of you are in his administration.

Oh, give it up. To anyone with common sense, you have been shown proof. You just don't want to admit we have it.

You do your cause no good by these endless Clintonian splittings of hairs.

I am done with this. If Alan Keyes runs a great conservative show full of pro-life speech, explanations of the Declaration of Independence, and witty commentary on Shakespeare, wonderful. I will be a happy person and support him in his program.

If I am wrong about this program,. I will bump this thread and say so.

I have a pretty fair track record on this stuff, but of course, I could be wrong. Perhaps Dr. Keyes is just filling that new time slot for constitutional explanations that MSNBC just discovered. Perhaps all those reporterettes on MSNBC will back up his pro-life statement. Maybe he will assemble a group of guests who LIKE President Bush.

I doubt any of these things comes to pass, but we will all just have to wait and see.

By the way, you are the most consistantly rude poster I have seen here in a very long time. You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

You don't often agree with Keyes, right? (Correct. School vouchers is about it, and alas Keyes has not pushed that.) Have you noticed inconsistencies in him.... (no) is he all over the board dropping principles right and left (no) ....or is he as consistent as the sun risisng inthe east and setting in the west (yes)

Does it appear to you that his principles or morals are set down very deeply within him? (yes)

Do I pass the test? I could list some of his drawbacks, but you didn't pose those.

And I would vote for him for a legislative office (just like I would have voted for Moynihan if I had a chance; I hope that does not unduly confuse you), but never, ever for an executive position.

"If I recollect, his only reservation regarding full fledged support had to do with the pro-life plank in the party platform and this was resolved at the convention."

Oh really? Then why, did he not release his delegates at the convention? You do recall that, don't you?

Sue, I was there...Alan endorsed Bush in the days before the convention, and he never turned back from his support of the soon-to-be President thereafter.

It's all just an inventive rewriting of what actually occurred. Fact is, the right flank of the GOP held for Bush (Buchanan managed to peel off almost none)...and that is testimony in itself that the million or so Keyes voters did their part.

Anyways, I don't want to spend my whole night refuting slander...most of it here is so blatantly wrong that honest observers will make up their minds rightly on this issue.

Yep, they sure were. Keyes' right hand gal used the ol' kneepad phrase to describe my admiration of Bush. Words right out of the gutter from his own confidant. When challenged she kept making light of it and said she was sure she had used that same terminology around Alan and it was no big deal. That's when I knew for sure that my morality and the one Keyes claims to embrace are very different. But that's the way it is in Keyesland. There's one set of rules for him and another for his "inferiors".

remind us of the real American values.

You're not insinuating that unless Alan Keyes is around we won't know what real American values are, are you?
