THE folks at Msnbc are talking to former Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Alan Keyes about hosting a 10 p.m. show up against Fox News' new hire, Greta Van Susteren. Meanwhile, Van Susteren, a lawyer before her O.J. Simpson commentary turned her into a CNN star, reportedly has penned an eight-page memo detailing CNN's demerits. She plans to keep the document secret as long as CNN doesn't try to paint her as an ungrateful traitor.

and in which the thread gets pulled because the flame wars go over the top.

Those threads got pulled because Keyes people went over the top, and you know it. Didn't want them lying around for all the world to see.

Some people saved them though.

Nice to meet you Fud!

And likewise! Old Fuds are a kind of a "cane shakin' at the world" bunch.

Seriously, I'm not a professional contrarian, just way old beyond my years. FWITW, I'm underway w/ other patriots in the making of a delightful, great band, tentatively named, you guessed it, "The Old Fuds".

BTW, this "we're above the fray" thing is wearing a little thin

Yeah, it ranks right up there with a purely nasty diatribe followed up with "*HUGS*".

And exactly how many Republicans withheld their delegates at the convention last year? One

And how many withheld their support of the nominee until 10 days before the election? None.

And exactly how many Republicans (Bill Kristol notwithstanding.....although his political affiliation is debateable) publish an internet column weekly to take a stand against the administration, instead of taking a stand against DemocRats and liberals? None

Why does Keyes see GWB as a target instead of Daschle? He sees no one as a target, he is presenting his views.

I challenge the keyesters to find and trashing of Keyes by George W. Bush - ever!

To this very minute even.

If they think GWB is fluff, it just shows once again how little they understand the man. I don't even think little tommy daschle would call GWB "fluff".

I'd be REAL interested in hearing your explanation of why he can't win.

Because all the conservative talk show hosts said he couldn't. They said they wish he could win, but since he can't win, we need to vote for Bush, to keep Gore out of the Whitehouse.

Actually I certainly do hope Keyes gets the slot. It will certainly be interesting. But beyond being able to handle guests properly, and allow their point of view to get out, and then engage in an effective and on point interplay (as opposed to some verbal food fight gong show thing like O'Hannity does, and all too often O'Reilly), he will need to expand his repertoire (beyond race and abortion issues which dominate his rhetoric), to have staying power. It will be interesting to see if he has the eclectic intellectual curiousity and range of say a Bill Buckley, who kept on trucking on TV with some skill for about 20 years, before he sort of ran out of gas.

I remember that! I almost threw something at my computer! Remember how many names we were all called on one of the earlier threads! We started making a list and the thread got pulled!

"Oh, I guess you mean the "fluff" with the 80-90% approval rating."

Yes, that's the fluff I'm talking about.

The former Fluff-in-Chief had a high approval rating, too.

..."Yes, Keyes was technically a candidate, because he wouldn't withdraw. It was ridiculous that he continued, and I do not think his behavior was honorable"...

Had Keyes not stayed in to fight all the way to the adoption of the party platform, the entire thing would have been changed--including the rights of the unborn. If for no other reason, Dr. Keyes should be commended for that....unless of course, a person believes it is ok to kill the unborn.

The only reason you won't be convinced about the Mrs. Bush thing is because you have a mindset that won't accept anything less than adoration like so many of the supporters of the Bushes give.

And as to Billy Kristol.....the story of Kristol and Keyes has been provided you several times....why not send Keyes an e-mail via his webpage and get a response from his own lips--it's obvious to this person you prefer not an answer but something to dangle out there in front of everybody to bitch about. Wasn't Kristol's Dad a little 'pink'? Aren't they 'neo-cons'....whatever they are, they are certainly not on the same wave length as Dr. Keyes, no way, no shape, no form.

What causes you to think that Keyes and Kristol "hang out' together? It surely can't be due to them having been seen together once or twice! If that is what establishes what you are, then President Bush has to be the most liberal politican next to Teddy the Swimmer--after all, they've been to the theater with each other!

They were roommates at Harvard College actually. Did you know that? So I assume they have seen each other more than once or twice. Do they have much in common politically? Well, er, no. They might both diss Bush from time to time, but for very different reasons usually.

I hate to tell you this but the Platform was adopted at the Convention in July and keyes didn't support Pres Bush until ten days before the election in November. Where was he from July to the end of October?

Because all the conservative talk show hosts said he couldn't.

No kidding? So, since they ALL said Gore was going to win, does that mean Gore is really president now?

Sooner or later, you're going to have to face the fact that Keyes doesn't win because Keyes is not a very likeable person.

Keyes did this right to the end

I am sorry, the latest criticism by Keyes cited here from prior to the election was 8 months before the election. Maybe March is the end of the election where you live, but it is not in the United States. And I consider that violating Reagan's 11th Commandment is despicable, and you are one of the prime violators.

Correct. This President would never trash keyes and he certainly did not trash him as a candidate. It is not the style of this man - it is, however, the style of mr. arrogance himself.
