THE folks at Msnbc are talking to former Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Alan Keyes about hosting a 10 p.m. show up against Fox News' new hire, Greta Van Susteren. Meanwhile, Van Susteren, a lawyer before her O.J. Simpson commentary turned her into a CNN star, reportedly has penned an eight-page memo detailing CNN's demerits. She plans to keep the document secret as long as CNN doesn't try to paint her as an ungrateful traitor.

You said:

It is really amazing that you folks can go around referring to a quote without reading it. I will just point out you use of the word if. IF the GOP loses. Not the GOP will lose in November, but IF it loses in November. This is your quote and your phrase, and it makes all of your references to this quote, on this thread and others a lie. I might say a BIG lie. Even a Joseph Goebbels' style BIG lie.

But what Keyes said was:

"G.W. Bush cannot make this case effectively," he said "...When it comes to dealing the issues of the moral crisis, he like many American politicians -- at a loss. "So when he stands toe to toe with Al Gore on issues like abortion, he will come off looking second best because he doesn't know how to make the case properly and effectively -- and so we'll lose." State Rep. Wayne Pettigrew, R-Edmond, asked Keyes who he would to have appointing the next three justices of the U.S. Supreme Court -- Bush or Gore? Keyes said that was an academic question. "The people who are deciding who's going to chose the next judges are folks who are deciding to put an ineffective, inarticulate, half-hearted indvidual into the naomination and send him out there," Keyes said. "He's not going to win, and so he's not going to be appointing judges. Your deluding yourself."

Then you said:

I will just point out you use of the word if. IF the GOP loses. Not the GOP will lose in November, but IF it loses in November.

Finish the quote, huh?

Keyes said that if the GOP loses in November, he will be there "to say I told you so, because it's about time that Republicans wake up, stop acting like lemmings, and every four years going over the cliff of hard-hearted destruction." (end of quoting article)

"In view of some of the posts on this thread, I thought you'd like to hear an old wise saying on the matter of calumny: "Calumnies are best answered with silence." -Ben Johnson, Volpone"

Yes, that is wise and very hard thing to do when so many rude idiots say such bad things about a good man.

What's your point? I also voted for Bush.

I distinctly differentiate between Bush supporters and Bush worshippers. Most Bush supporters are good decent people who don't get all hysterical everytime anyone disagrees with one of Bush's policy decisions. The Bush worshippers / Keyes bashers are a different matter.

Do you mean that I might be paid by the Keyes people?

Not you.......duh !!!! try to keep up, carenot. It is an undisputed fact that a few people that actually do work for and are paid by Keyes are Freepers. They keep it no secret and most everyone knows it. If you want to throw barbs, you might save yourself embarrassment by knowing about that which you speak. Good luck.

And THIS is Dr. Keyes big crime.

Nobody said it was a crime. We said it was dishonest for Keyes and his supporters to now claim that Keyes is a Bush supporter and has never said a derrogative word about Bush.

When you call somebody evil, you lie when you deny you say it.

This statement is an acceptable one for a candidate, when he has a chance of winning. Keyes had already lost. Therefore, it was sheer mean-spiritedness to make this comment, and to follow it up with an "I will be saying I told you so" argument.

First you told us that these comments weren't believable. Having lost that argument, you are now trying Clintonisms to twist the meaning of what was said.

And just exactly who is despicable?

Had the broadcast station indicated they would not television McCain if Bush didn't show? I don't recall; hence the question....

[[[What conflicting statements? Do you see me showing up on threads relating to people I don't particularly care for just to launch personal attacks or call names?]]

I see you launching personal attacks and name calling ---yes. And that conflicts with your statement that we won't see you doing that.

Or are you saying that it is ok for you to attack and name call on Keyes threads? That they are somehow an exception to the rule???

And for a second time I ask: Where is your apology for misrepresenting my statement?

Ever since then, Keyes and his supporters have done nothing but attack GWB

That is not true. I supported his tax cut. I support his missile defense program. I support his war on terrorism. I have praised him for these things on this forum.

It really is true. You folks don't know anything about poltical campaigning.

Now I really am ROTHLMCO!!!

" Statements of this type have been used for centuries, including the Ike people about Taft, the LBJ and JFK people about each other, the Goldwater and Rockefeller people about each other, the Nixon and Reagan and Ford people about each other, and on and on."

And exactly how many Republicans withheld their delegates at the convention last year? And how many withheld their support of the nominee until 10 days before the election? And exactly how many Republicans (Bill Kristol notwithstanding.....although his political affiliation is debateable) publish an internet column weekly to take a stand against the administration, instead of taking a stand against DemocRats and liberals? Why does Keyes see GWB as a target instead of Daschle?

Instead of making lists, Howlin, why don't you tell us why you think that Alan Keyes is a bad guy.

Generous with her assessments of other posters but stingy with her own opinions on issues.

Are they fighting over us? Wow, is this what it feels like to be a liberal? I'm not easy, but I can be had. Bye-bye FOX, at 10 I'll be with Keyes at MSNBC.
